Could Webb wrap by 250 East?

Edited Date/Time 1/22/2016 7:18pm
Hey Vitards. Long time lurker and finally got an account. So could Cooper Webb have the 250 West championship wrapped by the time we switch coasts allowing him to race 450s without risking the 250 West championship?

If he stays on two wheels, I honestly feel like he will have it wrapped up, but who will offer him a 450 ride is the question.

He's already 14 points up
He needs to gain 9 more points on second place in the next 5 races.
So yeah he will most probably wrap it up by then

He should race his 250 in the 450 class. I'd love to see that!

Well he has a 450 kicking around somewhere I'm sure. I bet Yamaha already has one for him as long as they want him to race 450s.

No doubt. I'm sure several teams would love to offer him a ride, but will anyoe? Maybe I'm wrong, but I would be willing to bet that every 450 team out there would love to sign him for next year.

If Webb leads by 51 points after Arlington he will be the west region champ and it won't matter if he races Santa Clara and Vegas.

I bet his lap times would drop by a few seconds a lap if he were to race the 250 in the 450 class. That track is significantly rougher than when the 250's race it. Could be wrong and it'd be interesting to see.

Vegas is only the West / East Shootout and does not pay points for each coast anymore.

So Webb has to have a 26 point lead after Arlington, to have the title wrapped up before the East races start.

EDIT - this post is incorrect as the rules changed for 2016 again for the 250 class at Vegas.
DownSouth has it correct above.

Forgot that they pay out points from the E/W shootout this year.
So he needs 36 more points (or 37 to have the tie braker safe) which is still very much possible

I'd rather see him in the outdoors than have him risk hurting himself for unimportant races...

It's hard to keep up, they have changed the Vegas 250 format 3 straight years now. Dizzy

2014:E & W main + shootout
2015: Shootout only.
2016: Shootout with points counting towards E/W titles

Webb has said on podcasts that he *wants* to race 450s during the east, but right now there's no set plan in place, they're gonna see how the west goes and revisit the issue later...

I tend to think he WILL race 450s... I think he and his camp feel that the experience gained by racing more outweighs the increased odds of getting hurt. Did you see how busy he was during the off-season? he was globe-trotting all over the place to enter every race he could find...

And if he does race 450s, I bet he'll be set up next to Reedy in the Factory Yamaha rig...

He needs a 50 point gap in 7 races. Take his average points gained over second place per race so far which would be 7 times the 7 races and he would have a 49 point gap going into east coast. Should be close if the guys behind him can't find some consistency.

Even if he doesn't have it wrapped I'd guess he rides. He wanted to experience east coast tracks before he was switched to west and he still wants too now.

Under reed's semi or the star semi is the only question I have

Nope. Remember, Cooper has Rockstar sponsorship, and the Yamaha team is rocking Monster logos on the bike and rig.
