Sorry if this is a repost...

Is it ironic that Peicks actions were strongly discouraged... yet the punches are shown constantly throughout the night to promote the show?

NO FIGHTING; but if you do, expect us to use your image in promoting the show, like, a lot.

We hate fighting (we love fighting) we hate fighting (we really love it).

Does it seem like a mixed message?

Two different bodies involved.
Feld Pretty Much Controls The Marketing.
AMA/FIM Controls Rule Enforcement( And Makes Them ).
And you get what we have.

The fights put eyes on the sport(to a certain degree) and I cant blame Feld for trying everything they can do to put more eyes on the sport by showing content like that for marketing purposes.

The AMA/FIM has to follow their rule policies and keep the fighting at a minimum I suppose/assume(I don't blame them).

All in all, both are doing their jobs.

I dislike inconsistencies also. But like some of the responses to your post, no one seems to care.

This is a good point, and I would even take it a step further and say I doubt Feld has complete control over a Fox Sports broadcast. The folks covering the races for TV are "reporters" after all

Sure!

I heard the NFL was thinking of using the Ray Rice Elevator video as a promotional tool but thought better of it

The fight is controversial. You know, watercooler talk. It causes a hightened awareness of the sport in more people's minds. Yes it is bad behavior. Would this be good to see all the time? No.
If it were staged to promote the sport it would be lame. However it was genuine human drama. And we are still talking about it a week later.

Whether the guppies like it or not, fighting is great for ratings and entertainment.
