Ok, I was riding a 14 yz250f Sunday that had the stock pro taper bars and my 14 yz450f has the renthal twinwall Stewart bend bars. It took a lot longer for my arms to get tired compared to my bike and I know a 450 is a handful but I'm thinking that the flex of the pro tapers helped a lot. I was wanting to see if any of you have ever cut the cross bar to get more flex? I am pretty sure I read it on here that someone has tried it before and I want to make sure it is safe to do being that it's a 2 piece bar?! Thanks!!

I recently rode a bike with cut twinwalls back to back with my protapers and they still made my hands go numb 10-12 minutes in. When I swapped them out with my Pro Tapers I could do 20+ minutes with no tingling in the hands. I've been Pro Taper loyal since 1992.

Dont cut your bars, buy some odi or pro taper flex cross bar , bars. If you dont like them , easy to sell, harder to sell damaged bars. i use the odi with x trig clampa. great stuff.

What about Mika they say on their site they have pretty good flex. Weird I was just getting g ready to start a thread about this. I run TWINWALLS as well but they are pretty rigid for off road which is what I have been mainley riding lately

Yea, I thought about mika also but I'm not sure how they would compare. I don't want to be in the same boat I'm in now, I don't know anyone that has used them unless someone could comment on them compared to the twinwall?

I heard many people cut the cross bar. It's a personal preference thing...

that right there is the exact reason i love my twinwalls but hate how rigid they are ....you will bend your bike before u bend a set of twinwalls. btw i think u need some new grips...lol

Twinwalls will bend. They aren't all that stiff. Yes they're much more rigid and resistant to bending than a softer alloy bar, but if you put it down hard enough, any bar is going to bend.

I also think cutting the crossbar is a terrible idea. I have seen bars crack at the mounts before because of this.

i had cut twinwalls for years, never had a problem, Odi's offer more flex IMO. I first noticed Cut twinwalls on Johnny Campbells desert bikes in like 09-10. If they cam smash though the wide open desert for hours going 55+ with confidence that bar isn't going to snap. Thats good enough for most local mx riders. Bars are still a wear item. Who cares if you cut them, they are pretty much worn out on the throttle side after 65 hrs anyways.

My KTM came with Renthal fatbars, no crossbar.

I swapped them out with Mika bars...They were so stiff I ended up dropping $200+ on Xtrig bar mounts.

Sorry for digging up an old thread. I'm looking for advise on bars.

I have the stock bars on my 15 yz250f, riding only moto, 30+ class. How do you guys go about finding which bend you like? The obvious answer is buy them and try them, but then you might have several hundred dollars or more tied up in bars that you don't like. Is there are starting point based on your height? I like the current bend height, but the ends of the bars seem to be angled to far in. Most of the bar feel is towards the outer part of my hand. Does that make sense? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

looking at pro taper's charts I think I am referring to the sweep when I'm talking about my hands.

Look up the demensions of different bars and find one with similar dimensions to what you have except less sweep.

I recently moved from twinwalls to the renthal 7/8 bars on both my bikes, the added flex feels a lot comfier and i really like the crossbar aesthetic.

Has anyone compared a fatbar to a regular 7/8 bar?
