Isn't the front bike a 1996? I can't see the forks good enough, but I know the seat cover and shroud graphics are '96.

Now I am trying to remember the difference between the 96 and 97. I had a 96 RM125 so I know for sure that it looked just like that, but I don't remember what they changed for 1997. 1998 had the blue and black decals. Anyone know the difference between 1996 and 1997??????

I got to test my 04 RM250 without the flywheel weight a few weeks ago and all I can say is WOW! I'm currently running 52 tooth in the rear so 2nd is useless. My issue before was the bike had too much low end torque and it was hard to roll on the throttle. After removing the weight the bike went from tame to a raped ape. The bike is more of a handful now, but I prefer how it acts down low and I need the fast revs. Can't wait to get the suspension dialed for next year!

I too had a 1996 RM125- I hated it! Never got comfortable on it. Truth is, I got it too late in to the year, went straight in to racing with it and was on the back foot all season, until I broke my arm on it in September that year. A friend raced it in the last round of the British 125cc Championship and scored points on it (he had raced the 250 class all year and borrowed my bike to have a one-off ride in the 125 class) (I think that season was won by Paul Malin) so he proved the bone stock RM with only a DEP pipe was a good bike, I just couldn't ride it very well!

Anyway, the only difference between the 96 & 97 that I recall was the 97 had LESS UNDERHANG on the conventional fork. Because of this, it came without the posh plastic guard on the r/h fork leg that only the 96 had.

Graphics were similar, but they were different- 97 was brighter with a flash of orange through them.

I had a 97 KX125. Loved that thing...

Oh, and the 96 had the footpeg fault that meant they snapped off! They were recalled and replaced.

Mine snapped off when I came up short on a double jump at Mildenhall, (suffolk, UK). That day, Chad Reed was there- one of only a couple of times he raced in the UK before he turned pro.
He was riding an RM125 aswell. Needless to say, he spanked all of our arses! His footpads were fine- he was getting the double sweet, unlike me!

Sweet 99 model. Is that the OEM silencer? I seem to recall they had silencers with 'stingers' here in the UK as standard.

Thanks. That is an OEM silencer. No stinger inside.

Anyone have a fix for the rear brake pedal wobble? The bushing in the pedal still fits good just the allen bolt never seems to get tight enough. Shim it with washers? Hard to feel the rear pedal when there is so much play and wobble.

Sounds like the threads on your frame are stripped, mine did the same thing and I had to take the bike to a machine shop to be re-tapped. This was about 2 years ago but I believe they used a heli coil.

Was firm and solid after that.

Yes, but it is a little tricky. Shimming it alone will take out the slop, but once you lock the allen bolt, your pedal will freeze. So you have to back the bolt out like 1/4 turn to get the pedal to move again. But then you have to figure out how to keep the bolt from unwinding.

So the backside of the bolt is drilled for a cotter pin. You have to put a few washers on the backside, to where you can barely get a cotter pin through the hole. Then you will basically lock the bolt where you want it. It takes a lot of playing around wish washers and shims, but works good. Just sucks to remove the pedal if you are doing work on the bike cause now you've made it like 10X more complicated to remove.

I did this mostly to keep the pedal from scraping up the clutch cover.

Going to do a total makeover on mine this winter. Digger29 did an awesome job on this bike but i really want to make it my own. Rims, hubs, graphics. All going to be changed as well as get the suspension dialed in for my weight then i should be good to go.Pipe is not this rusty anymore just in case anyone cares.... lol

Pretty sure 20mm front, 22mm rear [based on the bearings]. I think they've been the same forever.

What weight flywheel weight was on it? If you use the steahly 8 oz, it splits the difference. Still revs quickly, less stalling, smooth low end. Even my RM500AF has one. And my RM125 as well. Just don't go too heavy, unless you woods ride.

Turns out it was a 10oz made it too slow revving for where I ride (tighter small track). Rear tire was shot and broke traction very easily without the weight. I'm going back to the stock rear sprocket which is a 50. PO gave me an fmf shorty which I'm going to test out this coming spring. I'm very happy I went with Suzuki.

I like the option of being able to steer with the rear didn't really let me with the 10ozer.

If one of you jerks doesn't buy this fucking bike I'm going to be very disappointed in all of you.

I even had a look at exchange rates, shipping and the house fund. I came up with a no, but one of you should say oh fuck yes!

Just finished cleaning my second RM250, its a 2006, sold my first one 6 months ago and regreted it, found this one like 3 miles from my house, low hours, just put a shorty PC silencer and a fww, thing is smooth as butter.
