Weird, I haven't heard of that in the US other than the brand new ones with the front wheels destroying spokes, that's definitely a shitty issue.

For about 3 hours.

I tried with all my might and even chased Geoff Aaron down just to have him roost my ass on the mountain... I bottomed my Husky FE-S out on the Finishline jump...at the bottom of the mountain...even bottomed out on the top of Talladega...for waaaay too many laps to count...

Oh, did I MENTION THE THOUSANDS OF MILES IN BAJA...?

How about the time Tim Badour sailed ALL the Huge jumps on the big track at Pala...?

Yup. All on my STOCK Husky complete with production std KTM swing arm.

So...I'm jus' sayin'...

Btw, in my absence or when I'm "away": I'll concur with anything Seth has to say & he can answer in my place.

Manny

Orange or Green at the MX races. White with Blue & Yellow in the Dez. Because, I can.
Suck it.

I say no factory parts, just good plain production bikes with suspension and graphics. Obviously bars and levers as well.

Here's my thing with making the bikes lighter and lighter: besides the fact of possibly giving up reliability, when does the bike get to be too light to handle really well? Don't you think that there comes a point where you won't be able to get the power to the ground anymore unless you're 250lbs or more, or detune the motor big time? I know my 14 Yz450 is on the heavier side but I know exactly how it's going to handle and I know the power will get to the ground.

Well, suspension is the biggest separating factor between the factories and the privateers so.... your idea isn't that great.

Weight has nothing to do with putting power to the ground.

And everyone arguing that lowering the weight makes the bike less reliable. Please go take a middle school level "technology" class before speaking again.

A man can only face palm so many times a day and yall pushing my limit

Sorry forgot to mention limits on suspension

The ignorance is painful.

Lighter weight is BETTER. Period. Better stopping, better acceleration, better turning, jumping, everything.

There are exceptions, sure. But only when mistakes are made. Too little material, improper maintenance of lighter parts, etc.

And if you think your heavy tank ass YZ450 is in danger of being too light for any reason then WOW. That's all I can say.

God himself is light as air. Obviously weight is the devil working and that is why four strokes are satanic hell machines.

I can understand that there would be a concern of the durability of the lightweight bikes but we need to remember that the technology evolves every year. The modern lightweight will last, i'm sure that the manufacturers will do enough durability testing.

What should the weight be? Where do you feel safe trimming weight? Frames? Wheels? Suspension components? Handlebars? Triple clamps?
Roger D would be the one to ask. He has experience with a 178lb open bike. Or maybe give Joel a call. He won a championship on a 168 pound 250. With actual experience, they should be qualified to weigh in on this subject.

Also a good read. http://www.mxworksbike.com/index.php/history/mx-history/136-finding-joe…
