1993 CR250 Resto Mod

Edited Date/Time 3/6/2016 4:01pm
Hi Guys,

After much soul searching ive decided i wanted to rebuild an old Skool Steely from the ground up. For me they are the ultimate in cool and i really loved the thought of rescuing something that was at the brink of scrap. I started the hunt for the bike and eventually came across a sorry looking CR250 RP that had a seized engine and showed signs of very very poor maintanenc.

PERFECT i thought!

The build has quickly sky rocketed past my budget (as often happens) due to all the bice aftermarket parts availiable plus the rip off cost of OEM parts!

Anyway heres where it all started.......

Every bearing replaced

I'll say at this point i do know that this bike will not be 100% original and not to everyones taste so troll take heed. This is my bike and im building it the way that i want it.

Had to clean, sand down, paint then laquer the outside of the airbox and fuel tank. Its becoming increasingly more expensive and rare to find original ones in good condition. The OEM proces for them i couldnt justify........this bike will be getting used when its complete.

I rebuilt both front and rear calipers with new pistons and seals. New brake lines and control levers too.

The footpegs are for a newer CR250 model but i modified them to fit and used new pins to secure

On the GPI radiators, was the lower mounting hole smaller size than the upper? The ones I ordered for my 92 resto have a smaller hole on the bottom, so the rubber bushing mount won't fit unless I drill it out.

Yep correct I had the same problem with it. They must use the wrong hole punch when they make the blanks. I just cut the rubber in half with a Stanley knife, basically thru the smaller dia. I then bolted it up with one piece of the rubber either side of the alloy plate. that way it still works as a damper.

Ive yet to check them for leaks but for the cost of them (£64) you cant really complain compared to the price of OEM ones! I expected them to be a lot worse fit to be honest haha

Bike's looking good. I do prefer seeing a build where a bike's being made to go racing as was intended.

Engine nearly finished up. Complete overhaul including the gearbox. The head has had some tuning work done to it aswell so this thing is really gonna rip. Ill get some better pictures once i fit my Boysen Racing covers to it.

The bike as it sits still has the wheels to be relaced with new gold rims and the front shocks to be overhauled including new adjusting caps ordered from Japan

Few more better quality snaps of the engine. Carb now attached

Got it off a UK website call MD Racing Products. Lots of nice stuff on there. Same with control levers

They're sold in a number of places under different brand names. Link to a US outlet. I bought a bike that had an RFX branded one fitted and first time out had a very low speed spill that bent it enough to clash with the sprocket guard.

Looking good man! Here's my 93, these projects are rewarding but tough to close out, in my case mainly because my project planning sucks

finishing up a 93 restoration. Mine came without radiator louvers/grills and I haven't been able to locate any, Does anyone have a source or advice on fitting or modifying other year pieces to work?

They're rarer than rocking horse shit! I have a spare set but not for sale sorry.

93-97 CR125 louvers will fit with a slight mod. With the locating pins, you have to trim off half of one on each side. And they cover probably 95% of the radiator with just a couple of small OEM cutouts not covering in spots.

Here's a pic of the 125 louvers on my 95 CR250 Cool
