Just as an FYI, the 2013 Honda rear wheels are different from the 2012s, and for those of you who need replacements, the Dubya USA crew have the '13 versions in stock.

the new rear hub is narrower by a few mm's. I heard a horror story of a guy throwing on his old wheel set onto a '13, the difference is obviously minimal that they fit (sorta) but it rubbed while he rode to the point that the wheel locked up and he ate shit big time

Hmm??......that's odd....why would they narrow it only by that much?

Melonfan.......The Talons have a replacement spacer kit for their wheels.......which " I would think".....would be available to make them fit the 13'.......like I said....."I think". Don't know if they have come out yet.

Actually.....it's kind of a shitty deal really. You buy a $1200.00 wheel set....you think they could be used on the next years model. I think with Talon guys would be safe.....the other cheaper brands.....you're probably screwed.

You won't be screwed, you can always just machine down your stock spacers.

Or, buy these (if they are correct, it said fits 2013) http://www.motosport.com/dirtbike/Honda-Genuine-Accessories-Wheel-Space…

Honda does some dumb shit sometimes.

They alter the 2013 wheel for no particular reason, other than to make sure old ones won't fit.

They put in titanium intake valves that give maybe 1hp instead of vastly more reliable stainless ones, and then outfit the bike with two 46lb Midas mufflers that chop off an easy 4hp.

Makes you want to slap Mr. Honda, hard.

Makes me think of something else for some reason.

I'm a contractor out in the construction field. Cordless drills ( actually anything cordless)......the change the design of the batteries on these damn things like every friggin year! So you get a $200.00 cordless set....battery goes belly up.....guess what?....you gotta buy a whole new set because your shitty batteries took a dump.

True story here. I bought a Craftsman ( Not kidding....Craftsman!)....18V Cordless drill . 6" skill saw combo on sale at Sears for $220.00. I bought them for a back up in case my other set went belly up. Well....the old set lasted about a year or so. So this brand new set that I had never used.....went to charge them up...and neither one of the batteries would take a friggin' charge! Craftsman wouldn't do shit.....and I couldn't find any batteries for it......after 1 friggin' year! It was the older model ( why i got it on sale I guess ). $220.00 worth of tools.....in the friggin' dumpster!

Holy shit.........don't know why i went off on that rant.

Anyways......damn stupid wheels messin' everything up.

OMG!! do you NOT read the write ups for the 2013 450 stating EXACTLY why they changed the wheel hub?? or are you just a honda hater trying to stick in the knife?

Just to clarify 2013 rear sprocket is placed WIDER on the hub. The reason is more power -> needed stronger (wider) gears -> wider cases -> chaing line changed -> wider swing arm -> rear sprocket is moved out 3.5 mm.

Thanks DL for exact info.

The only difference is that the rear sprocket is spaced 3.5mm wider.

Actually no they haven't, I had to chuck an 18v Bosch set because of that very reason. They have changed their batteries as well. The went from the post design to the front slide in design.

Next time you go to throw a cordless set out, throw them my way.

I'll just get them re-celled to better than new, maybe even sell them back to you. Tongue

Come on people really your getting upset because they revised the chasis Honda spaced the sprocket off of the motor more so the chain cant catch the cases and there for they had to change the spacing on the sprocket to the rear wheel. The same wheels have worked for the last 5-6 years. Everyone complains when they come out with the same bike for the last 3 years with minimal changes and then they change it entirely and everyone still complains.

You have a good point there!

Is it a easyfix spacer behind sprocket etc? Mailed to Colin (Fast) who make wheels for rider i support and he wrote that it's not a fix with changing ordinary wheelspacers. Must change hubs he said. For me is Colin 100% straightshooting always so bye bye 5 sets........Another question? Are you making 1 silencer systems for -13 model? As you probably understand every privateer Honda rider i talked to (and parents or sponsors) so far waiting for same procedure as the 250 double.

Yes, I have a single full system and slip-on as well as dual full system and slip-on. Here is what the single looks like.

Why? Just to be nice and help out the aftermarket companies?

Believe me NS503....I went down the road of wanting to tear into them and replace them with some new A123 batteries cells ( That's what those packs carried ).....the problem was ( and Craftsman knew this ) they made those battery cases like fort knox! You would have to literally break the case open to get to the batteries. I "could" have done that if I was just planning on using them here at home.....but I couldn't ever take them to a job site. The fines OSHA could have slapped on me for stuff like that....I didn't even want to mess with it.

On the Honda rear wheel........moving the rear sprocket over 3.5mm? Was the counter shaft sprocket moved out as well? Chain guide as well? They must of redesigned the whole rear end to move the rear sprocket out like that correct?

Pale....they must be different here in the states. Dewalt....out of all of them here......change their battery setups like every other year here. I have also had better longevity out of my Milwaukie's and Skills . For some reason....the two most expensive cordless sets that have let me down were the Dewalt and Makita's.......the Craftsman.....I wouldn't know as far as that set goes....never got to use them. And since Craftsman isn't built in the states any more the quality has gone down hill.

Wider. Like above, wider tranny gears to handle more torque.

The reason you can't just use spacers is the sprocket moved 3.5mm but the brake rotor stays in the same place.

And for the record, the wheels have been the same for at least 10 years. I've ran '02 CRF450 wheels on an '09. Not sure how far back they go but from '12 back a LONG way have been the same. For me, that makes it even worse. If I get a new CRF450 soon, it will be a '12 model for the specific reason of the rear wheel issue.

You sure about that? The 02' - 03 Hondas had a different spacer set " I thought?" That's why most wheel sets have them listed as 02 and 03 are the same......then 04' up to 09' I even thought the 10' and 11's were different from the previous years. Not making a statement here.....just asking because I don't know. That's just what I thought.

Noicetested? Dyno? Noice/dyno with tuned engine in future? And i must also tell you i'm very impressed how you stepped up the game to top level in a very few years. -08 we tested one (Bergqvists thru Lasse Larsson?)but way too loud for Europe (Mx3gp) back then, and honestly you got beaten real bad by HGS on dyno/riders test so it was a no go(sorry). If rider i help going to Ca as planning to he for sure going to buy a Rocket, no doubt. Smile

Renthal is developing a Sprocket/Kit that makes your old wheels fit.

But, I could be wrong...

Does the bike look weird with the blown out panel on the other side minus an exhaust?

Got a 07 450 with a 13 hub and came to the conclusion that with the aftermarket Chain guid it allowed the wheel to fit without any problems . except the shift collar popped off behind the clutch basket because of the few mm difference. Didn't figure out the problem till I tried throwing the wheel on my 11 450 withe the stock Chain guid and the chain didn't line up because of the stock chain guid width not allowing the chain to roll free. Looked at the d.i.d. rim manufacturing date and it was laced up with a 07 rim. Wasn't till I looked at the hubs side by side till I noticed the difference in the hubs. Could have saved many hours if time with this little piece of knowledge. Thanks for the info! And to all the Honda haters can suck it!
