If you can't find any reeds you might try a go-kart shop and see if they can match up the old reeds.
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

If I had to guess I'd say it was for a '79-'80 RM250 or 400 they had 3 petal reeds

If that reed block is one of EC Birt's, he tended to use Yamaha reed petals for a lot of them.

Old thread but I was in my garage rounding up parts for a 78 RM250 moto fox bike project that's been on back burner.
I found my box of RM reed cages. The 6 pedal one is a R&R cast for either a rm125 or RM250. The reed block is taller than the later 79/80s. It bolts on same 125 or 250. The reeds are #608 Boyesen for 79-80s KX250. You use just top ones and drill new holes and cut the one pair shorter with scissors.

I have this 6 pedal cage in my 78 RM125, and it is a strong runner with porting,144cc,LOP head,35mm carb.
The 79-80 DG cage is 4 pedal. Have one as well in my 79 RM125. It is smaller like one on earlier post.
EC Birt made a 3 pedal reed cage for 77-78 RM125. I have one in a motor he built.
I haven't used one(6 pedal) on a 78 RM250,,,but can tell I'd have to notch the cylinder so it would fit and have a place to breathe through. Only drawback is it would lower the crank compression as the stock reed cage has a filler area that fits up against cylinder to lower volume...
Has anyone used the 6 pedal cage in a RM250 C2 ????? Is it worth notching cylinder to make this work?

Mix 'n match ? The 77 model came with steel tank and swingarm. The 78 had an aluminum swingarm and plastic tank. Things look a little mixed up on these bikes.

The '78 also had the leading axle forks as well as the plastic tank and alloy swingarm.
Those leading axle forks look to be different than what came on the '78. They look like an '82.

The 77 aluminum tank is much better looking

And the 79-80 suspension isn't that hard to adapt

You REAAAAALLY need a garage or a bigger one...Even I would get a little bothered having that in front of the TV when my Steelers or Pirates come on. Or I hope for your safety you got it out of there before wifey came home from shopping,,LOL.

I have a 78 RM125 90% completed if anyone is interested. Fox pipe, 38mm forks, modern wheels have gold rim and spokes, FMF head, ported to Fox specs.
Just needs some time to complete

Wolfy,

Sweet looking bike.

Do you have a price for it?

Interested in trades perhaps?

Those billet triple clamps, are they reproductions or originals from the late 70's that normally were sold with trick KYB forks?

Not sure, they did come with the brochure showing the forks you speak of, I used a set of 83 rm125 forks

Dave,
Those triple clamps look just like the KYB ones that I have. Very trick for back in the day. The bike looks awesome too.
