Avgas?

I know this has been discussed before, and I've heard differing opinions. Why should or shouldn't I run avgas in my bike? Two-stroke? Four-stroke? I really don't have a problem running pump gas, but I have to drive 20 miles just to find 91 without ethanol, while I can get avgas about 8 miles away.

Any knowledgable input would be appreciated.
we ran fullbore avgas at 2 oz to a gallon MC1, fooking bike hauled ass, hit hard and when doing a top end i've never seen a cleaner piston and head dome in my life.

Here is my two cents...The go kart track I go to is right next to a small airport. I have two 4 stroke Honda 6hp go kart engines. I have used the AV gas in both for a while, more out of because it was close by than anything else. Lots of guys use the stuff in their 4 stroke karts.
I had a Noleen x race bike, and when I bought it I ran the AV gas because it was closer and cheaper than race gas. It obviously was a two stroke and the guys at Noleen sad it would be fine to run AV gas in it.

av gas is great practice fuel. its cheap, protects your crank, and doesnt detonate.

its great for two strokes. but i believe that lead is not good for thumpers so i would not advise.

its not a clean fuel like ms109. VP stuff is real clean and dry. if your carbs are set up for 109 and you then run av gas, you will run rich.

practice on av gas (lean it out)
race on race gas (richen it up), and thats only if your good enuff for it to make a difference.

I have run 100LL from the airport in both 450's and my 250 2 stroke for a long time with no issues at all. Only benefit I have seen from dedicated race gas is in my 2 stroke the jetting seems to be a bit more forgiving since I have started to run Sunoco 110. My 450 was bone stock motor wise but ran great on100LL. I didn't need the octane but lead is good for valves and it's better quality than pump so I ran it when I could since it was cheaper than VP, Renegade, or Sunoco.

Run it! It is better than even non ethanol pump gas.

I bought a YZ125, KX85, and KX65 at a dealership about an hour away. The dealership sold VP Octanium which is an additive that increases pump gas octane by 8 points. It is also a fuel stabilizer which is nice. However, nobody near me sells Octanium and my YZ requires 95+ octane. I do however have a small airport a couple blocks away. Based on Scotty's and Madmaxperformances comments I decided to try 100LL. I did not mix it with pump gas. I just ran 100LL with 40:1 yamalube and some sta-bil in all three bikes. Ran about five 15 minute motos on all three bikes that day and used the remainder of the fuel a week later. No issues so far.

In my stock engine with pipe 03 yz250 . Straight av gas i went from a 178 main 50 pilot to 172 48 jets.

So some people think airplane gas is lower quality fuel than car gas? Batch to batch AV fuel is the same week after week unlike the crap we run in our cars. I have no problem with it. works good when your airborne too.

Its not "DRY" its not bad, its not lower power, its not slow buring.... get over it!

So, short answer to your original question. Av is just fine. Mix it 50/50 with regular pump gas, and you will be very happy.

The guy at the airport said he has to verify the octane everyday at the pump. It was a liability thing
