NC Track in danger of shut down

Foothills MX, a south western NC mx track, is under threat of shut down

(Note - I am not an employee/owner of Foothills MX, but a rider who wants to see our riding areas remain open)

The track has been in operation continuously for 25+yrs. New neighboring property owners nearby are attempting to shut it down based on nuisance claims. The track has strictly adhered to county approved sanctions/operating hours for 11+yrs. The complaint is that bikes are running without exhaust (they are not), track is operating outside of hours (it is not), and that water runoff is causing property damage (the complaining neighbor is both uphill and upstream from the track. so, physics...). Regardless of how trivial these complaint seem, complaining neighbors can pull great weight with local courts, ecsp when they have financial backing for strong legal representation.

Tracks are scarce in this part of the country, most riding areas are 1+ hrs apart. This is of interest of ALL mx'ers. Precedent set in riding area closure attempts affect us all.

yep, mountain bike trails everywhere, one of the best riding areas in the country. if they were open for motorcycles, it would be a paradise for trail riding.

until the mid 90's, many of those mountain bike trails were dirt bike trails as well...

Done deal. We had a similar situation in Burke county a few years ago. It was a private track. Invitation only. A county deputy owns the track. His neighbor, uphill from him, was complaining all the same stuff. At the hearing, she stood up and literally cried the whole time. When the deputy had his turn he said, 'It's a strange thing that you never complained when it was YOUR kids riding on my track....'.

I actually aready got in touch with a rep on Foothill's behalf, the AMA is limited on what help they can provide for a civil matter. I hope we can keep in open, I live an hour and a half away in Tennessee but when we are not racing in the woods, this is the go to spot. Excellent/safe layout, sandy creek bottom soil and Matt is a good guy doing this for the right reasons.

Follow the money.....

Multimillion dollar equestrian center opening not too far away. It is actually being built at the entrance of the old Polk county MX track.

Signed. Left a comment encouraging not to take action based on "utterly unfounded claims", and that a proper investigation will show no violations that would warrant closure. Hopefully that helps. More importantly, I hope you guys will get ahold of the best lawyer you can find to help out.
