What kind of head is it on that bike? I've seen them before but forgot the name of them... and is anyone running one that can comment on the performance gain (if any)?

Carbon tank finally arrived, it seems quite a bit thicker than the cheaper model. I dropped the bike off to have some carb work done to it so I won't be able to mount it til this weekend. I will post another pic once I have it mounted.

Did somebody say carbon yz gas tanks?
Why can't Yamaha sell this bike today? I'd buy 3.

Based on the pictures posted, it looks like these parts are either just skinned in carbon fiber or done by wet lay. The tab on the front number plate you can see where the resin hasn't been sanded down level (meaning it's skinned), and in some pictures of the carbon tanks you can see hazing where the resin is thicker (which can signify wet lay without vacuum meaning a very resin rich part).

Almost $500 for a plastic/fiberglass tank covered in a single layer of carbon fiber? Yikes!

Carbon tanks are always tricky inside a perimeter frame ok.
Outside like the one maybe not.

Finally installed. I agree 500 is a lot but it makes the bike look better in my opinion, so 500 is cheap compared to the other kit with aluminum tank.

Is it missing one of the radiator shroud bolts? I've thought about the VDLaar kit but $500 sounds much better. I hate how my knee braces rub off the graphics on the stock tank and how the graphics bubble and peal and discolor on the stock tank...

How's your tank holding up? Ran much gas through it yet?

Sorry just now saw the past posts, I still haven't put graphics on it yet I built it for my 13 yr old son who lives with his mom and he doesn't really care to ride like I do so it's probably been rode 3 times. Gas tank holds up not sure how it would do with a bad impact though. It mounts easy just have to drill holes in brackets that come with it which is pretty much just aluminum plate, the missing bolt holes though aren't to bad but I bought some metal to fabricate another bracket just haven't been to concerned about doing it since it mainly sits in my shop. I've putted around on it once feels nice but I'm afraid I'll ride it and blow it up so I stay off of it.

For motocross I think it will hold up though the cap is a little hard to take off with bare hands. But I think the look of the bike is worth the money(to me).

I wouldn't do a carbon front plate. When you get roosted it'd make a terrible sound.
Adolph Weil would have used one. Aside from looking like Paul Newman he was about the only Euro in the Inter Ams and Trans Ams to not wear a chest protector. He planned on being in the lead.

I don't think your gonna get away from the knee brace and graphics rubbing off, I've rode this YZ in the pit's and it feels super narrow, probably cause i ride a kx 450. I also grip alot with my knees and legs so graphics dont last long. Your YZ is awesome, Ive tried building a few 250's(kx and cr)for my self cause i grew up riding them and love the thought of being on one but I end up selling them cause they just don't have the same brutal low end power and feel as a 450(most people love that sound of the 2smoker which is awesome, but I love to hear the Rev limiter). Even tried to have both but then it just sits in the shop as well.

Gave it a polish and made a little cover (from a carbon sheet i bought off ebay for 5) to go over the edge of the shroud overlap to tidy it up a bit.......This will look good once on the bike for sure imo.....seems to be tough/durable enough, small 6 litre capacity.....and no lighter than a stock tank either.....£404 delivered.....

So I already took the one I bought off the bike, as it started leaking from under the resin in the inside of the tank.

Epoxy resin isn't friends with ethanol. So any ethanol in fuel will start to destroy the resin (may be the reason for the leak). Unless the tanks use some of the specially formulated tank resin, or have been sealed with something like POR15.

Yeah it looks like a fiberglass type material on the inside, the first one I ordered cracked down the back side where the seat sits as soon as I tightened a bolt(not even close to overtightening). He did let me swap it and shipped it back to him, but took over a month to get to Texas. I was going to try to see if I could have it lined or coated but honestly not worth the effort, the look doesn't make my son any faster!

They make “sealant” for coating the inside of these type of tanks.

Got the bike done with the carbon tank....won't be riding it myself but the best thing i came up with for the ethanol problem (besides having the inside coated which is still an option) was to store the bike with an empty fuel tank and use "tetra boost E-guard " on the day of use (see last pic) it's an octane booster/lead additive with an ethanol neutralizer in it....

Carbon fibre 125/250 tank covers....
Other than the trick carbon tank look...No more bubbling graphics is one advantage ......also if you wanted to run two completely different plastic/graphic kit's/set up's,this makes it easy.....just add or remove the cover and plastics kit (with the matching graphics) and you've got a completely different looking bike in about 30 minutes.link here.

Has anyone used these rtech kits yet? The tank looks to be a better quality and cost is less with all you get with it.
