A buddy and I are looking into purchasing some Honda Grom's. Wanting to convert them to off-road/small moto machines. However, leaving enough on them to stay street legal. Didn't know if anyone here had done this or have any experience with it. I'm in the process of buying my first house. Shortly thereafter I play on making a small SX like track for them, while also just looking for fun through town. Thoughts/suggestions? Thanks guys.

Go to the Florida Grom Facebook group

They all off-road them and beat the snot out of theirs

Mine, I am not going to thrash it....I get enough fun feeling like Rossi on surface streets

Why not get some TTR125s or CRF 125s and ride them on dirt, All you'd have to do is put a brake light and headlight on it to make it street worthy.

Those groms are cool, but they just seem like they'd only be good for going to ur buddy's and back who lives 10 minutes away.

China mopeds. I have a big track and farm animals. These two gems are well worth the 120 bucks I paid. I have yet to get smashed and head to taco bell on one but I can see it in the near future.

Surely these are being made with old Honda CT70 tooling?? They look almost identical, even have the fold down handlebars. My first bike was a CT70, I think mine cost more than that back in 1970!

I bought a Grom about 3 weeks ago, and have similar aspirations as you. I think those chinese knockoff CT70's are ~$1300 at some hardware stores, while the Grom was $3k with a warranty and fuel injection! Fair warning- they're slow. They will do 45 pretty easily, but anything past 50 and you'll be at WOT for a very long time. I've done 60 downhill a couple of times.

When the street tires wear out on mine I'm going to put on the Maxxis 6024's:

I believe you can get Ohlins suspension parts for them- a rear shock plus a revalve kit for the fork. I've also seen more modestly priced rear shocks.

So far I've just done a fender eliminator to mine, ~300 miles on it now.

Cat back exhaust made 3/4 hp more and sounds really good without being to loud.

I've seen a guy at a couple bike shows in the area making electric motors to put in those ct-70 chassis (plural?).

They do look like a close replica to the CT70. I work at a local dealership here in town and the owner has one in the showroom on display. Has like 30 original miles on it. Looks brand new! Those are cool, but there's just something about a grom....

Now that's more of the kinda thing we're looking to do with them. That's awesome!

Ah awesome. I'm with you on the Grom train. Warranty, street legal, new with up to date technology. It does sound like we have very similar ideas with what we're wanting to do with them. The video you linked I saw when Maxxis first came out with those tires for it. That got a buddy and I thinking about it for quite some time now. Just this week we've decided we're gonna get them. I'm hoping by maybe the end of the month. Or possibly October when I turn another year older. Maybe an earlier present to myself?Cool I work at a local shop and we had one come in today for some service work. The guy was super cool, I'd say late 40s to early 50's. He said that grom has been some of the best riding hes done in his entire life and hes been riding since he was 17. Anyways he let me take a ride on it today and your spot on. 45 mph easily. Anything more than that and I was WTFO the whole time haha. I did get it to do 56 on the slightest down grade. There are so many parts you can put on these things its crazy. The options are endless. I'm definitely gonna need some bar risers. That's just a start. Let me know if you keep up with the mods!

That is a bad ass photo. I have all kinds of plans. That Yosh exhaust...how'd it help or hurt it? If heard that because they're such little gutless wonders that putting a pipe on them kills the little torque they do have due to back pressure loss, but does help the top end noticeably. Whats your thoughts?

My girlfriend has a grom. It's very slow. I don't think I could gear it up either because it had no low end.

There is a Chinese company called Lifan that makes turn key 125 motors that fit in those ct70 knock offs. They cost about 400. They are fast, I have one in my z50 and my dad clocked me at 55. I still have room to gear it up and I bet I could do 65.

I don't ride mine and think "I wish this thing was 20mph faster". I have the girlfriend's supermoto and my Harley for that. It's fine the way it is. About all I'll change is tires when they're due and maybe revalve the suspension since I'm 275# and riding a child sized motorcycle.

I sold my modded CRF70 to a friend because I like the Grom so much.
