I can't speak to the EKS product but I did deal with Rich Taylor the owner at one point years ago. He wasn't very nice.. that's the nicest way I can say it.

I don't remember anyone getting all up in arms when Roczen and Reed both backed out of their Fox goggle contracts in the middle of the year last year and switched to Oakley. Hahn also switched from VZ to Oakley inbetween motos this year. It's not like this kind of deal never happens. During Indiana last year Weimer wasn't happy with his Arnette goggles in moto 1 and even though he had a deal with Arnette, he wore Oakley in moto 2.
Are the Fox goggles still made by Oakley?

I bought some ecks googles from a pal that's shop was going out of business for his cost. There is a reason these guys switch to Oakley from the other brands. Worn out oakleys>Ecks brand.

Agreed. Have heard some of the other things here mentioned about BT and must say if I was a sponsor i'd stay far away from him.

yeah don't think he thought that decision through very well....maybe he did. I kinda like the idea of saying "what would nick wey or andrew short do?" to themselves before making a sponsor decision like that. would prolong their careers that way.

No I think that agreement ended a few years back.

You don't suppose the rider's team owner had anything to do with Tickle's attitude toward Mathizss, do you... surprised no one pointed that out, previously.

I wear EKS now: they're fine.

No one's goggles did exceptionally well in that mud.

Has anyone here tried EKS goggles? They do look pretty cheap, weird that he decided to completely switch brand between 2 motos.

This was asked: I tried to answer that general question because if you haven't worn them then you wouldn't know.

I repeat: no one's goggles did exceptional well in that mud. Most guys pitched them but didn't throw a fit. I didn't need to race them to see other brands also being thrown but thanks for asking.

I thought his issue was that the strap came out or that he lost all of his tear offs/roll offs in one turn?

EKS Brand goggles are an entry level goggle that are made to a price point that may not stand up to extreme conditions that are found in AMA motocross. Steve Matthes is not realy taken seriously in the Moto world because his style is more comedy than serious journalist. He may not have the time to prepare goggles as well as he should because he is so involved in other things at the races.

People sign contracts to wear a lower quality product for money all the time. Chisholm and HJC comes to mind...

To be fair–28 is a ridiculous amount to stack on, and the fact that it only just fits, if you put the last set mounted right hand around means it's not normal.

If it was so ridiculous then Zach Osborne wouldn't have been doing it in the GPs. I think it went a step further where Steve actually confirmed (proved to himself) that you could stack that many on one side. He *should* have known that if he was telling his riders that 21 was the best he could offer them.

Zach said you had to reverse it... it might have helped Alex at Budds–but on the other hand it might not have, one big clod like what Tickle copped and it can do whatever damage. That's the thing–too many variables, putting it on the goggle or the prep is silly.

Here's what you're overlooking:

Broc has welched on multiple contracts and owes people money ( I was only aware about the Charles Dao thing, but apparently there's more)

So this isn't just "goggles" its a "pattern of douchebaggery".
These are bold accusations to be posting.

Who are you? Someone that will sign their name to a post like this or someone that will play "oh I'm in the industry and have to remain anonymous" BS card?

Make defamatory posts like that you should have to back them up or STFU.

Steve Matthes is well and truly over this whole motocross thing. He has pretty much said himself. He is only doing it for the money and is tired of some of the riders attitudes as well as the travel. He doesn't own a bike or want to ride one. You can't realy blame him as he has been doing the same thing since the mid 90's. Unfortunately when you get that sort of attitude you will do a sub standard job and treat people with less respect. It has happened to most of us when you have been in a job too long so I am not bagging on him, its just the way it goes.

Don't think he has to Rock–Ping and co have gone over the Charles Dao thing a few times on air...Doesn't sound like it's not public knowledge.

There's a saying "Never pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel" and I think that rings true here. If Steve was just another goggle guy, we'd probably never heard anything outside the pits. I was there and I didn't even notice he Broc swapped goggles.

Go listen to the podcast and then hold your breath until broc comes out and explains his side of the story. If broc truly believes that the goggles are not up to par he can buy out of his contract, but instead he just takes the money and moves on, which I think is weak and shows poor character.

The idea that the EKS brand goggles are not up to par on "quality" for pros is a huge pile of BS and I do not even own a pair of EKS brand goggles. Let's face it, 90% of all goggles are the same in terms of 'quality'. Some may not fit you as well as others, but that's completely subjective and besides the point.

There are a few goggles that are superior to the mass majority, like the Oakley Airbrakes and Dragon NFX but even my Airbrakes' space-tech 'plutonite' lens scratches just as easily as my other goggles.

Speaking of Oakley, up until 7-8 years ago, I'm pretty sure the majority of guys ran Oakley O-frames, which have been around forever and is the most basic goggle there is and nobody complained. And I don't believe for one second that the EKS-brand stuff doesn't at least match the quality of a pair of O-frames.

Maybe I missed something. The race was Saturday, what day was he on pulp? Did he come right out and say he won't buy out his contract? I didn't listen to the show. I highly doubt he saI'd he wasn't going to buy out his contract.
