Dungey needs to slow his ass down... No one should be allowed to ride that smooth that fast...

I noticed that also, hope Gibby caught a pic of it!

No, he's boring. Captain Vanilla. Does just what he has to win, nothing exceptional. Has a not fun to watch riding style, says nothing funny on the podium or in interviews. In fact his podium talk is odd, he has that weird twitch where he closes his eyes and nods for no reason. He's fast, I'm not saying that, he's just not fun to watch.

Found it, had to screenshot it from the video, hope someone got a good shot of it, not only early in traffic, but off the face of the 1st jump:

Yep, doesn't do anything special, like first one to double the down hill at High Point, first one to triple up Mt Martin this weekend, nice power wheelie pass around the corner this weekend, etc. Such a boring rider to watch...

well, as someone who's particular about rider styles, if I was a pro racer i would want Dungey's style. i think it looks fantastic. add to that he looks "Factory", harkening back to the clean look before riders started wearing contrasting gear/bike color combos and NASCARing out their machines with all the wrong stickers in all the wrong places. Dungey GETS IT. he looks excellent, not boring by any means, but has a great style to watch. he's the perfect Factory rider.

Boring?

I guess for some.

Key to championships?

Oh yeah.
He missed two outdoor races in 250 MX in 2007 and has started at every outdoor race since 2008. In supercross he missed five races in 2012. Dungey has missed 7 races since 2006 and has been to MXdN 6 times.

If that running pic was 2014, RD would have stayed behind #14 for 80% of the race. This year, he's going for an early pass.......

You gotta be in it to win it.

Dungey reminds me very much of Broc Glover.

Motocross is a joke, you just twist a throttle and sit on a bike. Case in point, this little chunky kid is beating Dungey in a running race.

Nothing exceptional....LOL.

"Does just what he has to to win".

Isnt that what it is all about? Just win. Should he throw in a few supermans while racing, maybe a few yardsales just to be interesting?

Yea, Roger Decoster thought that too when he plucked him out of the B class to put him on a factory ride. Multiple titles in multiple classes and his race wins put him near the top with Carmichael, McGrath, Stewart, Villopoto and Johnson, but he's nothing exceptional.

On this subject, has any other rider in MX history won national championships with the strategy of waiting for the faster guys to get hurt?

Chad Reed, Grant Langston come to mind.

I get the impression he's less scripted than just nice. He doesn't want to give too much away. We have many scripted racers who lack charisma, but Dungey politely gives his podium interview without getting into areas where he may say something provocative. I think it's more his personality. We haven't had that many Bob Hannah's and Rick Johnson's in our sport. Cooper Webb is more like those guys and I love it! Dungey just keeps his cards close so as to be polite imo.
I agree with you. I think he is just very focused on a positiv mindset which probably is his key to success. He never was boring.

I like how people use podium interviews/interviews as a criteria to hate on him. They probably can't even articulate what they would like a rider to say in interviews without sounding like a dumbass.

Dunge is pure class and is constantly stepping up his game. Being a professional motocross/supercross racer is the opposite of boring.

I'm so impressed with RD and I hate to admit it but I think Aldon is a big part of it. Ryan has so much confidence, his passes are quick and lethal. He's got downright more speed this year and I see some RV in him as he really plants that back wheel riding more off the back. He's driving harder than anyone through the whoops out of the turns and even pushing down - rear wheel first off many of the jumps so he can get that horsepower and drive ASAP.
That takes more strength, more stamina and the confidence he can use it all - all moto long. I would have loved to see the two Ryan's go at it again, but I'll have to wait again for Barcia to get that jump and/or ET to come back to where he was.
