LITpro vs watch

So..... Quick question. Can't a lot of smart watches give you this info, and heart rate, while being cheaper?

No; read the product features a bit deeper. It ideally will have mapped images of the track as a background so your track log will then be over-layed. From there it can analyze specific segments of the track so you can see what corners you need to up your game, etc.

Sounds pretty deep with features and will eventually allow you to compare your times against others (which obviously sounds very similar to Strava, but again, much deeper in its analytics).

Aldon goes over it pretty well on the Pulp show from this past Monday.

I have a Polar M400, when using it for moto, the GPS mapping is not that acurate , over 5 laps or so it is all over the place.
Using it a lower speeds no problems.

This is 4 or 5 laps from flat track race, speed was quite fast, using the M400

Get Garmin and you are good to go.

Yeah, smartphones work ok running or even cycling, but anything where you are going very fast or changing direction often throws most GPS systems off because their cycle rate is too slow and/or their accuracy is too low.

Need something much better for moto. Especially if you want to compare segment times. The inaccuracy of a smartphone GPS will be greater than any true variability in your segment times so it's useless for that.

$399 really isn't too terrible of a price point especially if you can use it in other sports. I listened to the thing on the home page (first time on that page in about a year) but I couldn't tell if you could stream the information to your iPhone live or if you could only view it after you uploaded it. Sounded like the latter. If they're going to enter the bicycle industry, I think they need to be able to view it live on a phone and add cadence and pressure sensor options. I know I watch my phone regularly while I'm riding to see how my pace is and checking my distance.

If they can get it to be live, imagine the possibilities with fan viewing. Could bring a new dimension to the living timing page. Wink

Good point. I really like in some other racing arenas how they can pinpoint a specific racer and show certain demographics live. This is a really cool start and hopefully they just keep adding more and more functionality.

Or if they could incorporate it into a HUD on your goggles.

The hd gps unit and heart rate telemetry is really the main selling point of the unit. hd gps will allow you to see actual lines. You dont need an hd photo of the track, google satellite images are good enough and lap times are only relevant hour to hour on a given track.

Provides useful data though and i think it would be worth the prive for most people.

I wonder if the data format is proprietary?

I pulled the trigger on buying one last night. I really enjoy seeing the data in strava after my mtb rides and I've been looking for something similar for mx. I've got a personal track and being able to see my own lap times in a very controlled environment is a selling point for me. It will be fun to compare which lines feel faster vs actually are.

I like this idea but I'm wondering how practical it really is. Seems like it adds an element of distraction or failure into goggles.

This is what my Garmin does for me. I can look up everything even split segments and stuff. I can view it on a satellite view or just a normal map. Its accurate enough to show certain laps where i missed a rut and went wide in a turn and stuff though.
I can view my heart race at certain times I don't see how the lit pro is much different than this especially if the tracks you are riding have been updated on google earth.

Which particular Garmin device are you using and does it support auto lap calculations? From your second picture it looks like one of the Forerunner models.

Looks like Archview to me. That's a great track, and great dirt.

I was using the 610 model which is $450 i think so quite a bit but i use it for all my road bike, swimming, and running when i train and it works with all my sensors on my bike which is awesome. I just started playing around using it when i would race a few months ago and i have so much data now from riding its honestly really cool.

And yeah it does do auto lap for this moto i have it set up where i started it would auto lap. And i have the screen set up to where it auto rotates so it will show the lap time when i get to that same point each lap.

I just bought a vivo active which does almost all the same things as my 610 but i dont think i trust it enough to go riding with I'm afraid i will break it.

I have the garmin fenix 3, and love it, a bit more than the litpro, (about 550) but i can use it for anything from moto to marathons, to swimming. I davel in triathlon, so this made the most sense for me. On the computer it can overlay views like what yamahamark showed, segments for moto (set up a gate via gps before you start your session) calcs vo2 max, does heart rate analysis, sleep patterns, all sorts of stuff. Its like having aldon baker on your wrist. I use it for everything.

Ill try and do the computer images and analysis when i get to my computer, and show some heart rate stuff. Definitely not as focused as the litpro. I would love to pick that up as well Evil

Are those markers shown on your first picture the splits (or segments) that you configured and does the fenix 3 also have the Auto-lap feature?

** never mind, I found the Auto-Lap feature isn't in the fenix 3 on their website (https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/catalog/product/compareResult.ep?compar…)

How do you like the Vivoactive so far? I am on the fence about upgrading my TOM TOM Cardio Runner. Main reason is lapping, I cannot set up a lap point on my TOM TOM. Although I have to give this wrist device Kudos it's GPS is highly accurate and there's no chest strap required for HR monitoring.

I also recently DL'd that GPS MX Lap app for android that was posted a few days ago, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

How does it calc VO2 max? Just by heartrate?

It calcs while runnjng and cycling.
Cycling requires a power meter, which can be a bit spendy, or you can estimate it by hand/excel/matlab. Running is a pretty straight forward calculation. Info is right here

My Brother in law races boats 90+ mph. nephew downloaded an app into the android phone and they throw it in a baggy leave it in the boat for the race the lines seem pretty close to each other for laps and you can move over the lines to see your speed at that particular point in the race. Also if you like tom tom, you can buy the tom tom app and use your phone with tom tom functions. It downloads the tom tom data base and uses the gps. Good if you don't want to use your data or if you're in another country and don't have data for your phone and need mapping.

You can have look Garmin edge 500 or new 510 both have autolap and you can mount it to handlebar. I did cut hole fot it to foam and you can see while riding. That one is pretty cheap option. Im using Garmin fr 610 and you can get them cheap as 620 is new model.... But new model dont have autolap so look just 610.
LITpro told me they are waiting CE certification for Europe so that will tale some time.

The Litpro looks amazing.

I currently have a Garmin forerunner 310XT and only use it for MTB/Strava. I use my iPhone/Strava as a back up at the same time just incase. After comparing the data maps of rides I concluded the iPhone wasn't as accurate as my Garmin. It cut corners far too much. Both are fairly inaccurate even with a slow moving MTB. Funny too that I often see my iPhones saying I rode an extra mile or so than the Garmin. Anyways the amount of dodgy GPS data in Strava I'd assume due mostly to iPhones and android phones is ridiculous. When you do the compare feature with guys that may be beating you on a segment you can see how bad it is and so many KOMs are bogus. I hope the Litpro data can be uploaded to Strava and maybe in 10 years or so Strava will be accurate lol?? Point is nothing else compares to the Litpro judging from their video. Not even close I reckon.

Back to MX. I use to run my previous Garmin watch on the MX track. It was handy for lap times using a GPS marker and to see what my HR was at least. I had to set it to record data every second instead of the smart data record setting that would smooth out and cut corners too much. I never looked at segments though. No way it was accurate enough for that unlike the Litpro. Comparing different lines in corners there's no way anything other than the Litpro can do that.

Hi Mark,

I have bought the Vivoactive and was riding with it today -I'm pretty happy with it but I cant seem to figure out how to get lap times.

The only options I have found are to do laps based on distance (which will obviously vary making it useless) or by pushing the "lap" button on the watch (equally useless).

The main reason I got this watch was so I could review lap times without assistance and I'm having a bit of a nightmare figuring out how to do that.

You help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Neil
