Here's one way to think about it, think of the other riders of the same time and did they dominate the other guys head to head.
Let's not deny the FACT that Ryan Crrrrrrrrrushed it when he won a Championship...CRUSHED!

But, like others have pointed out...we've not even seen what this decade has in store...not all of it...

Then there's Cairolli...too.

Stanton should get some sort of honorable mention between Johnson and McGrath. His run straddled the 80's and 90's.

I'll wait on the next 5 years to even comment on the '10's.

So many great riders in all the era's. It's hard not to appreciate them all , in different times of their careers. Not only for their championships , but one off glorious rides that put a big smile on all our faces.Makes me happy as a fan that I got to witness just about every single one of them race.

In the 1970,s one rider did stand out , he won 5 500cc world titles , came 2nd or 3rd in either the 500 or 250 class every other year except the last one ( 79 ) .

He came across the pond and won 4 successive Trans Ama titles , and was a member of 5 MXDN wining teams .

What more does a guy have to do ?

but you would have to incl Joel Robert in that list as well, as he was on the same 5 winning teams, and won alot of world titles on the 250's as well, but i would accept that the 500 class was the premier of the time

Maybe someone could post RV's '10 results,he and Cairoli are the 2 contenders for that one,RC/Everts is probably the only other debateable era-edit as I've just seen Jose's info on Robert,if we're not just comparing the USA.

I think RD in the 70"s is entirely fair. To be even more fair Cairoli, Herlings, Dungey and Kroc will all make a case for the present decade. When it comes to raw speed I like Herlings and Tomac.

To be fair to Uncle.. RV has beat Dungey every time they've finished a series together, and Dungey has won the others.. so who is more dominant.

Yep and RV WOULD dominate all the Euro riders on American soil as well, no doubt about it. After all, that's what Uncle is referring to here.

........how about come to the US and help lead them to 22 MXdN wins, including 13 in a row, and manage teams Honda, Suzuki and KTM (all of which were, or are, top teams under his tenure)?

Most MXers dominance can't be measured over an entire decade. Cairoli comes to mind when thinking about dominating a series for an entire decade; but for the rest, dominating for a decade seems a stretch........HOWEVER; when you talk about "The Man".......he has dominated (on and off.....mostly on) in the sport of MX for more than 4 decades as a racer, manager and all around ambassador!.....I am not worthy!

To be fair to Dungey...is it his fault that every time he has a an issue during a series it is a mechanical and not an injury?

Dungey could have two more titles without mechanicals, but you seem to like to forget that key note, yet you go around bringing up the "injury/asterisk" card any time Dungey comes up when you try to put Dungey down or diminish his accomplishments. He is good, he's also smart, which has benefited him at times.

I get that RV has been faster overall when comparing the two, and Dungey isnt always exciting to watch, but faster isnt always better, or even more dominant. Look at Tomac, he was flying, but he is injured now. In my opinion, Tomac was faster indoors most weekend too, but when you start 13th its hard to beat a guy that starts 2nd or 3rd.

Stewart is blazing fast, but almost always finds the ground at some point during the year.
