I was looking at the Ironman sprocket but not fully convinced for the price...

What sprocket/chain set do you prefer and why?

Where's the best place for the best pricing on a set of these with a chain?

I purchased my sprocket and chain separately so I can't help you there.

I have well over 100 hours on my rear ironman and it still looks new. I replaced the chain when the front sprocket started to wear at about 70 hours but I had no stretch and mostly did it out of guilt. There are no downsides in my opinion.

Long time ProTaper guy here. When they first came out, the sprockets and chain were made in Germany and wore like iron. Great stuff! Since then, they are made in Taiwan and the quality has suffered a little, though I still use them.

Does TMDesignworks make these sprockets or just a reseller? I've heard good things about Ironman sprockets but haven't had any experience with them. I really like the 3 TMDesignworks products I've bought.

I actually just put on a Renthal TwinRing Rear Sprocket 50 Tooth and a Supersprox Front Sprocket 14 Tooth. I went with the K 520XSO RX-Ring Chain.

I like the Aluminum center with metal ring around the outside. Get the weight savings of aluminum and strength of the steel.

I have a 2013 YZ250. It didn't have an O ring chain on previously and I'm hoping I don't lose too much going with an O ring. It just didn't last very long.

I hadn't heard of primary drive before, does their chain hold up well too? Even on the 450s?

I've run that combo before and I had no problem with them either. I just like to change it up and I like the blue sprocket look. . .

Is the O-ring/X-ring somewhat preferred on the 450 bikes? My crf requires a specific countershaft spacer if I decide on that type of chain...

DID makes a narrow x ring chain which doesn't require a spacer. VT 2 I think

I run DID ERT2 gold chains and Pro Taper sprockets on all of our bikes.
I ran my last set for 1 1/2 years and just replaced them.
It is a 2011 CRF450R that is ridden at least every weekend on a motocross track.
I lube the chain right after every moto while the chain is still warm so that the lube can get into the pins.
I use Maxima synthetic chain lube.
I buy the chain and sprockets at my local Honda shop.

I used to have an Afam sponsorship and they were great. Last time I put on sunstar with a did gold chain but next time even if I have to pay I'm going to go back to afam.

Renthal twin ring..did ert 2....primary drive countershaft.... twin ring wears awrsome along with the did chain...pd cs is as good as the others that are 3x as much...oh and a non oring chain...too heavy with enough drag that I don't care for

I've had no issues at all with them on my YZ450.

If you want to spend more money, Primary Drive also has an aluminum sprocket kit...

The only potential downside to the Primary Drive is you can only buy them in stock tooth sizes.

I do prefer pro tapers as well. I like the wide teeth. Seems to e more durable than the renthals. But I also like running renthals too.

ProTaper because it lasts.

I used to swear by o-ring chains and paid the premium for them. Tried the ProTaper stuff and it lasted just about as long as o-ring for the same money and less drag.

Steel sprockets whatever brand JT/Sunstar (etc). I usually go for a cheap non sealed chain then again I'm only on a 125. If you are on a more powerful bike step up to a top level non sealed chain like the ERT2.

Is a great chain and all I do is wd40 it after washing the bike.

When the chain is cold at home in the garage there is some drag. When I come off the track and throw my bike on a stand the wheel spins just like a non ring chain. The chain just needs a little heat in it but I cannot tell any difference when riding.

i've tried a bunch and keep going back to TAG with DRD 520 Gold chain combo.

It's a great wearing combination. FYI - i'm a maintenance Nazi though. I lube the chain between race and practice motos and always keep it 3 finger tight...

I have about 90 hours on the chain and only gone through a couple sprockets.

Yes, the VT2 is a great chain. Especially for the CRFs because it won't rub the engine case at the countershaft.
The outer plates have the gold-colored chromate plating, the inner links are blackened.

Run the Renthal TwinRing rear sprocket if you don't want to change it for a long time.

A bunch of my pals use the Supersprox stuff, but none of them ride as hard as I do. I put a set on my YZ125 with the DID gold ERT2 chain. It's holding up very well so far.

I use the renthal twin ring. I tried the JT X1r chain this set and have been very happy for the price. I have probably 15 hours of hair scrambles on it and still looks great.

I have seen those cheap Ironman knockoff steel sprockets, are they any good or Chinamart junk?

Pro-X. Holds up great, looks good, and can be had for less than other big companies (one of which makes the pro x stuff)..

I use Sunstar sprockets because they're cheap, light and reasonably durable (for alloy sprockets). I use DID X-Ring chains on my big bikes and DID NZ chains on my tiddler and 250F's. The NZ is as durable as the ERT2 but quite a bit cheaper. The key to sprocket longevity is to replace the chain as soon as it starts stretching. Then you can go a couple years on your sprockets.
