What doe an AMA official have to do with anything concerning a sponsorship deal?

I think he means only an AMA official can tell you that you are not allowed on to the track, mr gopro would not have that type of authority.

I know Parts Unlimited wasn't allowed to have a hospitality suite in the pits this year at Glen Helen because Western Powersports complained about it. I know WPS sponsors the series but to not allow a major vendor support their own customer is ridiculous. That is like not allowing a Bridgestone truck in the pits because Dunlop sponsors the series.
Or the actual Dunlop sponsored teams whose riders would use Bridgstones with Dunlop stickers on them...

So, who tells a rider he can't enter the track with a competing camera? NBC/AlliSports, GoPro, the AMA or MXSports? Whoever it is must be getting paid to enforce that.

My opinion doesn't mean much, but the rule is questionable. How can you right a rule in the AMA rule book stating only GoPro is allowed on a rider's helmet? Where in the AMA rulebook is it? (I didn't read all 12 pages, so if my question has been asked, and answered, point me to the page number)

In my experience, 'protectionist' tactics by sponsors such as this are not materially effective for eliminating the competition from the space. Many times it backfires, big time. Unfortunately, it's pretty common with niche markets.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe they have a rulebook, officials, license requirements etc.

You also realize that hospitality is sold exclusively, yes? This is exactly the same scenario as supercross but flip flopped as Parts has paid for that right and privilege in supercross where WPS has in motocross. WPS is not allowed to have any hospitality in supercross for the same reasons you are complaining about.

Of course , what we do know is, that prior to Reed signing his deal with the Fly people, he will have been well aware of the Go Pro deal with the AMA , and how it works, so surely he is at fault for taking $1/2 mill on a contract he already knew he wasnt allowed to fulfill.

On the other hand, how much publicity has this move made for Reed , and Fly , without anyone seeing the product in action,

I'm thinking that is all a set up.

I follow FLy360's instagram, and the video clips I saw look decent(picture is not as crisp as GoPro's), but the fact that you can scroll left or right to see what's in all directions around the person wearing the camera is awesome!

This deal with Go-Pro just hurts the sport and only helps Go-Pro.

Finally someone stands up for some of the bullshit behind the scenes crap and he get's called a whiner.

I know at the Supercross races a couple years ago DVS Shoes was not allowed to park their rig in the pits because of DC Shoes exclusive deal, even though DVS sponsored riders in the race!
Ya, agreed it isn't the best setup but you can't really blame (or only blame) GoPro.

Haha yep, I don't even care about the entire situation. Pretty lame of whoever to only allow GoPro, but now Reed is going to take his ball and go home because he can't use his camera after people have been trying for years to use other cameras. Boo hoo. Get the rule changed or go home. Makes no difference to me.

That exact thing happened to Pirelli in SX several years ago.

With Reed being sponsored by 360, could he or 360 sue GoPro if they use footage of Reed??? I see this being just the start of something completely FUBAR!

To be fair, I see both sides of the arguement. I'm curious to see if Chad will really take his ball and go home or if it's just for show.

Makes sense to me. They are both distributors, so why would WPS want somebody going to a Parts Unlimited hospitality suite when they could hang out at WPS hospitality instead? Does Parts Unlimited sponsor the series in any way? If you want to be part of the game, you've got to pony up the bones. Seems like a completely different situation than Reed and his camera.

No. They have to agree to let the promoters use their image or 'likeness' when they sign up for the event.

If he doesn't want the actual footage he should just make a plastic replica of the camera and say, "prove its a camera".
I doubt there are any rules against that, if not I'm suure theres a way around this BS rule.

Yea, he's winning alright, "they're talking about it on vital!!!" Woohooo

Sounds to me like a very smart business man made a lucrative deal with a very naïve action camera company. Solidifying half a mil, knowing full well it wouldnt be allowed to film on track all along. Cash the check, try to run it, get it removed, act pissed amd fight tooth and nail for the company all the while, the money is being spent. Knowing from the start, the camera would not be used on track.

Smart business man schools new company.
