GoPro is making a 360 camera as well. There's a video on YouTube already that you can control. Only works on Google Chrome, and don't put the resolution higher than what your monitor can do, it'll lag/skip. Control it with your AWSD keys, mouse, or use the little arrow pad in the upper left corner. Gives you an idea of what it will be like if Chad is able to race with the fly version this weekend.

My only problem with these cameras is the quality of the videos suck. Had to check a few times if it was actually is 1080p, looks like 480p. Hopefully the next version of these cameras have way better quality, or maybe it's just the GoPro? Thought the fly looked a little fuzzy too.

Let me get this straight, GoPro has a massive contract and the sport has to re-think its contract with GoPro because Chad threatens not to race because of his contract with 360??? Can you think of anything crazier?

Not what I am saying. I am assuming that whatever the contact terms are they will be followed until the contact ends. But when the contract is next negotiated, the sport will be in a stronger position to either get a better offer from Gopro, remove exclusivity, or go with someone else. And Chad will have helped set this up either directly or indirectly.

So It's not just about Chad racing a race or not. It's about pressure for more money for the sports organiser through commercial tension. Or It's about riders getting access to sponsorship money from other camera companies. Much bigger than Chad riding a few races.

For what it is worth, the rumour is that the contact is not that "massive". It's likely that back in the day, when Gopro was basically the only option, AlliSports either took their deal or didn't get anything. I don't have a problem with that either. It's what they did.

You seem to think that this is a personal attack on the sport or organisation by Chad. It's just business. If you think about it, AlliSport sell publicity. Who knows how much Gopro paid for that publicity. But the value of AlliSports publicity is going up. Sure Gopro won't like this. But they are big kids. They know they have to pay more to get more. Like I said, it's business.

Pretty hard not to take it as a personal attack on MXSports when he says on Instagram to make your feelings known to MXSports....plus any racer who threatens not to race because of a commercial deal that rider has (despite the said deal not meeting current rules) seems damn lame to me and obviously to a lot of others here.

But as I said in an earlier post hey he got the publicity, but maybe alienated others at the same time?
Understand. Chad has a way of doing things which many don't agree with and which certainly puts some people off at times. I am actually someone who finds him cocky and irritating a lot of the time. Just this time I (think I) can see the strategy behind the mayhem.

Wouldn't for to be considered communist the proceeds from the GoPro Deal need to trickle down and benefit everyone in the field.

EhI could be wrong, to much political crap, but if they can get away with doing this for a POV camera what is next, maybe during SX they will start bluring out now championship sponsors logos on riders and bikes.

I know Smile

How popular was that.

Going by this Monster would have been better off just saying not one can wear or promote another energy drink.

People seem to be OK with this contract due to it being a POV camera company. What if it was exteneded to something like race wear or Helmets, Googles, boots.

Yes by all accounts the contract is legal and can be inforced, that does not make it right. or the best thing for the sport / riders / teams trying to make a dollar to go racing.

How would the photographers at the track feel if Nikon coughed up some money to be the offical camera gear of the series and only Nikon cameras could be used to capture any photographs at the events.

On that subject, GuyB, when you guys produce your "ONE LAP" articles on Press day, do they have to be recorded using a Go-Pro? or because it is press day can you use what you want.

If it is restricted to only using a Go-Pro, does it restrict the riders that can be approched due to conflicting sponsors?

There's a huge difference in the products, just not the end result.

What GoPro are doing is effectively the same as the technology and method pioneered in the first matrix movie–"bullet-time"–The Fly camera works like quicktime QR rendering, a single source capturing a wider field.

No, your buddy is a big ass shit stirrer, and a whiner that has a nac for causing controversy. I think most people on here (like myself) are sick and tired of his shit, he's a dumb ass. You know out of all the people, Chad would be the only one to do something like this. You know he had to know about the freakin contract. I hope you're not as controversial as Chad is when no ones looking.
Ok, got it, thanks. This place is not funny. I retract my previous observation.

Not a big stretch to see this philosophy extended to clothing, boots, googles, etc. Just look at the current UFC negotiations, everyone will be wearing Reebok and no outside sponsorship will be displayed in the ring. Just think, no more choice in anything. I think it's wrong and should be changed. No one needs to be signing these kind of contracts in the first place.

They kind of shit the bed on that one, huh? Using someone else's photo without permission/credit/etc. in an instagram post basically bitching about a camera controversy is pretty ironic. And unprofessional. And comical. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Even if Chad didn't know, his agent surely did. He also represents some Go Pro sponsored athletes like Ken Roczen.

Steve do you know if WMG shopped the deal for RCH that had a similar timeline in SX? Was it a sony product? I swear I remember reading something along those lines... which is why I could believe it's a deliberate move.

Simon, they definitely messed up. They also forgot to tilt the photo and add more filters than a teenage girl has makeup while also not giving you photo credit. Unsure Pinch

NFL players can't wear their own clothing sponsors to any league affiliated event including games, press conferences, meetings, practices, etc. You want to play in the league, you have to play by their rules. I imagine the same applies to the NBA, NHL, MLB, etc.

Collin Kapernick was fined because he shows up to games wearing Beats headphones when the league has a deal with Bose.

This could snow ball into sponsors pulling out.

Whats next? ONLY Lucas oil can be used at the Nationals?

Only Amsoil can be used at all Loretta Lynns races?

If Moto Hose become a sponsor can we demand only our hoses get used by all competitors?

It's all about the attention.

MXSports isn't their problem but gets them more attention.

We'll see how they do against the hard hitters when the contracts are up.

I don't care what th camera looks like, that technology is bad ass. Especially if it is compatible with Oculus rift so you can look around.

Lumpy, this won't snowball into anything. The series already said no to spec-tire deals and spec-fuel deals because so many riders and teams have pre-existing, longterm relationships (like Honda/Dunlop, for instance). We don't want to get in the way of that.

The GoPro deal has been in place for years, back before they were any other POV cameras in the space, so it was made exclusive, in both SX and MX. Chad's deal was announced three days ago, and now he's threatening to quit the series unless we break a pre-existing deal with our own longterm series sponsor who has helped make the TV packages and live-streaming a reality (and why Discount Tire and Monster Energy and Shift and all of Chad's other sponsors support him in the series, and i'm guessing part of the reason why Fly360 wants to sponsor him now).

This is complicated matter, and we will try to work through it, and hopefully see Chad continue at the races this summer.

Some of the people behind the Fly 360 camera are in the industry.

Chads agent should have known the stipulation with the GoPro deal.

Chad should have also known that.

Either way, the camera is getting talked about.

I am betting Chad will be at the rest of the nationals. He has other sponsors that have paid him money to show up, unless his Fly 360 camera deal is worth more than all of his other sponsor deals combined, he would be a fool to sit home.

Work a deal out to keep Chad, I hope not at the expense of your pre existing contracts because he and his agent think they are bigger than the series...

If you put up the amount of money that GoPro has, I'm sure you could make special arrangements.... Until then, 'mind your own business'...
