Any of you ever tried racing while you were sick? With a bad cold, mild flu, etc.? I have a race coming up this Saturday but I just got sick and may have strep throat. I will probably still race, but I'll be more tired than usual, that's for sure..

I've "raced" a 2 hour hare scramble with the flu. After about an hour i was just trying to finish. I wouldnt push too hard just focus on riding smoothly.

Unless your livelihood depends on it or you have a championship to win, it makes no sense.

Just like the guy that comes into the office when he's sick to let everyone know how dedicated he is to his job, racing when sick is similar...

I wouldn't. Just riding set my chest - throat infection back two weeks. It wasn't worth it.

I tried racing an enduro with the flu and made it about 5 miles before I started puking in my helmet and all over myself.

Quit right there.

I've done it and crashed in last race of day. Being banged up and sick is even worse than just being sick. Sport is hard enough when you are fit.

I've gotten sick while I was at the race campgrounds but ended up not racing. But if I just felt a little under the weather, I'd probably give it a shot depending on how shitty I really felt. After the race I'd be telling everyone I should have been on my deathbed though.

In March I rode the day after getting over a bad cold. Was still feeling a little drained, just not 'sick'. Well I ended up in the hospital that day. Like someone posted above unless your livelihood depends on it there's no real point. But fuck, if you wanna, go for it. Who are we to tell ya no?

I have always made poor decisions when it comes to waiting to be healthy to ride, sick, injured or whatever. I currently have a wrist fracture that needs to be pinned for the forth time, but I still ride, spar kickboxing and mountain bike daily, I just tape the hell out my wrist and go. Its smarter to wait to when you're healthy, but that's the normal thing to do, and lets face it many of us dirt bike racers are not normal.Woohoo I get a little frustrated seeing some of my friends let the littlest things keep them from doing our hobbies. With that said, don't take my advice. Laughing

.....is a REALLY bad idea! I raced once with the flu. I was completely exhausted after my 4 lap qualifier, went out for 15 min + 2 lap second moto and five laps in with my tongue hanging out I ate it in the whoops. My body was bent in ways it never should be. Wrenched my beck so bad my right arm went completely numb and neck froze up solid. By far the scariest moment ever in 25 years of racing. I thought I was paralyzed. All because I didn't wait until next week. Not the kind of guy who likes to tell people what they should do, but you should probably use your best judgement on this one. The main issue is that you will have NO strength to recover from a near crash or if you squirrel out.

Never raced sick, but tried to run a 10k just coming down from a bad cold. About two miles in it was like letting the air out of a balloon. Definitely set me back a few days. There's a reason the recommendations always include "get plenty of rest".
