Never been to In n Out, just recently started runnin Cal, so I've certainly seen them. Ever try getting a 280" wheelbase Pete and 53' trailer in the fuckin parking lot? Good luck with that. If I see a place to get parked nearby, I'll have to try one, just so I know. Used to do Whataburger in Tejas, is that the same chain? Liked those, and I am a burger snob. I've done 5 Guys, and they are tasty, as are the fries, by damn, what's up with that pricing? They think it's still the Irish Potato Famine? That's a little over the top.

Cruising down 14 through Washington state a month ago, headed to Clackamas Or, north side of the Columbia River. A spectacular drive in itself, topped off with a stop at a Mom and Pop burger joint in Bingen, population 308 1/2. Saw the sign behind the trees, yarded it over to the curb 3 blocks later. Everything is homemade, huge patty, endless fries (like THAT was necessary) plus a huge drink, for 12 bucks. Picked the Blue Burger, with lots of melted blue cheese, and all the fixin's. One of THEE best burgers I've ever eaten, and after 32 years on the road, I've covered some places.
In N Out is decent quality, but it just seems significantly overrated. Their veggies have always tasted more fresh than other restaurants. You won't hate yourself for eating there but it doesn't live up to the reputation and in my opinion, the portions are small. And no it's not the same owners as Whataburger.

My favorite burger recipe is Frank Sinatra's version. Although in a pinch you could always do it Dean's way.

We grown our own beef so many times I just use a bit of salt and pepper. But if you want something more interesting-

Get a good BBQ sauce like the Cosco(not sure brand) organic stuff

1/2 cup or so of bbq sauce
1/4 cup Jaegermeister
garlic salt
pepper
paprika

Put it all in a big ziploc with your meat and mix it up. Let is set for an hour or so. Form into patties, grill & enjoy.........

Inn & Outs line moves pretty quickly. At least at Inn & Out you still see teenagers and college age kids working there.

You know, one of the main reasons I still go to Dick's Drive Ins anymore is because of how they treat their employees. The benefits are pretty much unheard of in that type of business

Health and Dental Benefits

Dick's offers 100% employer-paid health insurance and employer-subsidized dental insurance to every employee who works at least 24 hours per week (which amounts to over 75% of our employees.)

Educational Scholarships

College, vocational/self-improvement scholarships up to $25,000 over 4 years to employees working 20 hours per week for at least six months and continuing to work at least 20 hours per week while attending school. For more information about how to qualify and apply click here Dick's Scholarship Program.

Childcare Assistance

As an extension of our Scholarship Program, childcare assistance of between $3,000-$8,000 per year is available to employees working 20 hours per week for at least six months -- and continuing to work at least 20 hours per week while receiving childcare assistance. If an employee doesn't use any or all of their available scholarship funds for tuition, they can use it for childcare.

Paid Community Service

We feel it is important for our employees to get involved in our community. Our community service benefit encourages employees to help local charities. Dick's will pay volunteer-employee's their regular hourly wage for up to 4 hours per month of volunteer time.

Higher Wages

We pay employees at least $11.00 per hour to start. Merit raises can increase your hourly wage to $11.25 per hour within three months. Shift Managers earn up to $5.00 per hour over-and-above their base wage. Store Managers earn considerably more.

Dick's is Committed to Our Employees

As far as we know, no other fast food restaurant in the Seattle area even comes close to Dick's in its commitment to employees. Dick's employees earn this recognition by working harder to give every Dick's customer the fastest service around, without ever compromising Dick's historic commitment to quality and the highest levels of health and sanitation. Dick's employees are probably the most loyal in the industry. Almost one-third of all Dick's employees have worked for the company for 2 years or more. Although Dick's commitment to its employees, like Dick's commitment to quality food, costs more in the short-run, it has been an excellent long-run strategy by giving both customers and employees extra value.

In-N-Out doesn't taste bad but i don't get the rave either. Freddy's Steakburger is much better in my opinion, doesn't seem as much like a super fast food joint either

In and Out burgers are OK. But the fries totally suck.

Nothing earth shattering here. But it appears to be trendy for the Southern CA folks.

In & Out is a good chain burger but still a chain (like Sonic, too). Almost every town has a few owner joints that make better burgers than any chain, and it's one of the easiest meals to make really well and have fun with.

Cannot handle a burger made with lean ground; gotta be at least 20%. Occasionally grind a mix of short rib, skirt steak and whatever looks good for a home grind.

Seems I have heard that from several people lately. Laughing I like the fact that some of us can agree to disagree and still keep it somewhat civil.

I had bugerville not too long ago while in St. Helen's, OR. Not bad.

Being from socal and the fact my wife used to work for INO in the corporate office, I am a little partial to INO. The food is ok but I do get a hankering for it, which is usually after several beers, and it satisfies the ol taste buds very well.

One thing about INO is that they take care of their employees. They compensate them with higher wages compared to most fast food joints. The employees also are treated to Xmas parties and raffle concert tickets. I've meet the owner, Lindsey is very nice. I've also meet the president and Vice President of INO, which were both very approachable people.

I just simply like the way INO operates their business. Their trucks are the absolute cleanest things on the road. I have seen the meat processing plant and it is ridiculously clean and squared away. They never have focused on streamlining products (which is why the long wait times) , but they focus on producing the best quality possible.

With all that being stated, my favorite burger is a homemade backyard bbq buger. Doesn't get no better IMO.

I used to love In-and-out...every time I was in SoCal it was the first place I stopped to eat. I once made a special trip to Vegas just to grab an in and out burger. Now there is one down the street from my house...and I'm kind of over it.

I'm over all fast food...and its better than McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, etc. etc. The food is a bit better...but the customer service is just WAY better. So when I eat fast food, its usually in and out.

Now for expensive fast food...Red Robin, 5 Guys, there is a Smash Burger chain here in Utah (I'm not sure if they are local or national)...but my favorite is this little hole in the wall place a few blocks from my office. Same price point as 5 Guys, Red Robin etc. But its ran by this old couple and they have the smallest freezer in the state (or so they say...but its tiny) so I know their stuff is fresh.

I didn't realize they paid more than other fast food joints...but that would explain why its all white people that work at the one down the street from my house.

You guys keep bringing up the same burger joints but they aren't out here. I may have to drive to bumfuck just to try a 5 guys. I'm going to sound like a racist here but I think that good burger joints are just not going to do well here. We have a large Hispanic population and I'm guessing that burgers are not that important. We have some kickass Mexican food though. Yeah buddy. I have a taco stand near by that IS THE SHIT. I have that to be thankful for.

I couldn't really call myself a burger connoisseur, probably just a burger snob. Anyway, despite living in In-N-Out central, I've only been there maybe 5 times in the 30 years. I cant deal with the wait. Every now and then I go to INO to see if I'm missing out on something and then it's 4 or 5 more years until I go again. I moved in April and there's an INO close by. It's on the same property as Applebees, Jack In The Box and Chipotle. Applebees is really not a fast food place but I bet it's faster than INO. Anyway I went last week. The car line was probably 15 deep so I walked in. I got lucky because there were only 4 ahead of me. When I got to the front, I turned around and the line was out the door. I got my DD and fries and went home. The burger was ok and the fries were less than ok. I could do another rant on the stupid combo bullshit that all these places push at you but that's for later. I'm not eating a burger for dinner with anything other than beer. It would be immoral. I went to the JITB yesterday and again the car line at INO was about 15 deep. It was 1 deep at JITB. They have a burger that quite frankly craps all over INO. It's the sirloin, swiss and grilled onion. I will be getting my new grill soon and then all of this fast food (or faux fast food) bullshit will end. But it makes me wonder, WTF is the deal here? Why do people flock to wait in line for an average burger.

It's probably my aversion to lines and crowds or it could also be my snobiness.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
― Mark Twain
If you don't want the combo you can get 2 cheeseburgers for 5 bucks. Grilled onion, mustard grilled with pickles, and peppers. Good tall burger with a lot of fresh veggies.

Lucky! Everywhere in the country has decent burger joints around. I really miss having good taco stand nearby. Way up North here they put peas and carrots in the beans and rice... Sick
