Ok, now that we are near the middle of season, i think it's pretty clear that they changed tracks prep too much compared to earlier seasons, and for the worse... I mean, what the fuck, Matterley Basin is a huge track with beautiful natural terrain, and still there were only one or two very good lines... Cairoli was right, tracks are flatter, much less technical, you can't make a difference, all are very close performance wise, passing is very difficult, crystalized positions, looks like F1...
totally agree with you here ........

The closer the riders are together, the more fights for positions, the more viewers, the more money #Luongomob

What an awesome weekend.... Best British GP for a couple of years. Applause to Steve Dixon and his crew. Great to catch up with lots of people over the weekend.
Anybody know why security were checking in the back of vans when we left? Was there an issue?

After watching the British GP, I can see AC's point about the tracks being less technical, especially compared to the first two round of the AMA series. So far, the AMA tracks have been monsters compared to the GP's.

I wonder if MM25 likes that track? Seems like he might manage a top 5 there.

Yeah steaming round a really wide track with sweeping corners is very technical :p have you even watched the gps? Argentina was very similar to us tracks where as matterly and the next one in france and maggiora are probably up their with being technical

I thought the track was crap not ripped up or watered enough that off camber corner at the top in years gone by had like 10 lines in it not 2

It's all down to weather, the whole place was dry as a stick this year, and even though it was ripped and watered, it didn't get rough like last year when it rained all week on the run up. It's not my favourite track, because it's not technical, but every race was excellent. if they had watered more, it would have spoiled the racing.

look at Glen Helen and hangtown they were rough as hell and spread out and I think that was better racing. the thing I like about watching is seeing riders do things that us mere mortals couldn't do. I could have rode round matterley and done everything bar the quad . Glen Helen however is another matter

are people really complaining about the track/racing at the British GP? like seriously?

were they watching ANY of the races, because I'm sure all of them were absolutely brilliant...... no wonder we get the "whinging poms" rep Pinch

A great, beautiful track. I've been lucky enough to attend the MXDN and 3 GPs there. And I'll be damned sure to go to the MXDN again, if it does end up there again, and if I last long enough.

It, sort of, harks back to the concept of putting a track down on a grassy / hilled paddock, that was the genesis of scrambles / motocross. It's a pity it's not a bit longer - but Luongo's / the MX Commission's track length rules (TV related, I'd say), place serious restrictions on track length - I think it's one of the longest GP tracks. But, it sure does have some speed and flow to it - making the claims that all GP tracks are small and tight just an example of how 'blind' some are.

Of course, I think every jump there was man made. And there is some serious, Serious air time on many of the jumps. That serious airtime, is what is expected of modern MX, but it's very well done at Matterley. Big stuff, blended beautifully into the slopes of the track.

I don't think there's a man made berm on the course. And, It seems to be all made of original area dirt - and not a 'imported' surface to my knowledge - though, it has had over 10 years to 'settle' into the landscape. And hell, when you watch the helmet cam videos, the noise of chalk / rocks that are in the ground hitting the rider / bike, sure does bring the concept of natural terrain back into focus.

I love that they've not sifted and ripped the guts out of the place - well, that goes for most of the GP series. For f**ks sake, use the areas natural geological aspects - viva la difference!

Tracks cut up each year, differently - weather, well before , or at the time. produces difference. Thank goodness.

Look, I expect a certain,( unfortunately large) element of posters here to criticize anything about GPs, as an "everything we do / have is the bestest" type mentality - hey, everyone is welcome to their opinion, but a couple of Brits slagging it? Whinging Poms indeed!

Yes, it would be great to see a GP at Hawkestone Park, or Fairleigh (sp?) Castle, but Matterley is pretty bloody good.

I might see a few of you at Villo's Escargot this weekend, and then Maggiora (with the TT in between) - just look for the large, bearded bloke hobbling (rapidly) about on his custom made (by him) , solid 6061 walking stick - you get wacked by this old bastard, you stay wacked, so, choose wisely your approach.......... Nah, I'm 'mostly harmless', and a happy bloke, despite the grumpy visage.

It's a matter of taste I guess

But I'd like to see you do the dragon's back
I don't see a point in having a 150feet jump that only a single digit percent people can do...

But even if the track sucked I think that was one of the best races all year in both series

I'm not slagging the track all I'm saying is that with it not being ripped and heavily watered it didn't get many lines ect. pretty much what everyone on the podium was saying when the track is so flat everyone is pretty much the same speed

I don't know how anyone can complain about Matterley this weekend. All the riders when interviewed on the gate said track conditions were perfect. It was almost like they had left some of the corners grassy and let the riders chew it up, like they used to do, they got rough, but they were fast and great to watch. I don't know how anyone could enjoy the racing more at Hangtown when 3rd was like 2 mins behind the leader over what we had at Matterley. If we get a better weekend of racing than that this year then we are going to be in for a treat

completely agree..... but when you come out of a weekend like that, and all you've done is talk negatively about it... just makes me wonder what you actually want to see from a motocross event?

I honestly can't remember enjoying every race as much as I enjoyed pretty much EVERY race this weekend, from the first EMX150 moto to the Darian Sanayei vs Sterry in EMX250, to Conrad Mewse in the 125s, Anstie leading the MX2 and Simpson leading MXGP..... just two days of immense action

but yes, perhaps the fact there were only 2 lines instead of 10 in one corner did detract from all of that

Totally agree with this. Every single race had me hanging over the fence, I almost had a heart attack during the first 10 mins of the second MXGP race. It might not have been the best it has been for line choice, but it was certainly no worse than Arco, and it only added to the excitement. You could still pass, but it was difficult, which is the way it should be.

Steve Dixon should be immensely proud of the effort him and his team have put in. They've learned from the problems they've had each year, and I would be extremely surprised if they didn't win GP of the year this season. Excellent news that Matterley will his the MXdN in either 2018 or 2019 too, thoroughly deserved

News is that Matterley Basin will again host the MXDN in 2018 or 19, let's hope we get a crowd as big as 2006 and for Steve Dixon's sake, they all pay to get in this time around!Wink Smile Smile
