The Dr. didn't believe me. I must appear to tolerate pain very well. He sent me home on a course of steroids.
One week later, things were still feeling 'crunchy', so I went in for a follow up. I sat in the waiting room forever. I asked what was taking so long, and waited some more. The receptionist finally said the Dr cannot see me, and wouln't give any more info and sent me home.
Over the next week, Dr finally returned my phone calls, and said point blank, "We cannot treat you because of your past medication history. Click".
WTF! What past history!? Drugs? I don't even take tylenol!
I went to see another doc, who sent me for xrays right away, which revealed a 40% compression fracture of T6 vertebrae.
I knew I felt shorter.
By this time almost 3 weeks had passed and the pain was starting to get better. I vowed to get revenge on that quack doctor, but what recourse would I have had? I guess only to spread my PSA: Stay away from Mark J. Rubin in Phoenix.
1) Ortho Dr tried to tighten an external fixator using the box end of a socket
2) Trauma doc punctured my esophagus with the NG tube
3) Anesthesiologist(?) forgot to turn on the oxygen in OR
4) Lack of care when I was in a coma gave me a gnarly pressure sore I had to deal with for a full year
And for the grand finale (ok, this is is just plain bad luck)
5) My neurosugeon, on the day I was to be discharged from the hospital was killed in a plane crash while returning from an SCI conference.
Needless to say, I don't have much confidence while in the care of medical workers. I've learned you have to be your own medical advocate and if something ain't right, speak up. Dr's and nurses are there for you. Everyone has a bad day once in a while, but when your health and life is in their hands that shit don't fly with me.
Thank you to all of you med peeps who are exceptional at your job. I know you have to deal with a lot of crazies. I just want to point out it can go both ways.
Pit Row
Out cold for a few minutes they told me.
Memory, took years to get most of it back.
Lower back, never was right after that.
2010, was flipping on the floor after work every night from the back thing.
Tried a chiropractor and almost got paralyzed.
Finally went to a General Practice doctor, who examined me and offered therapy or surgery.
Wanted to try therapy first, I kinda said okay, but was having a hard time walking, and asked if he had anything
That would help me with my work. I have bills to pay.
Asked me what I wanted, and being a child of the 60s, told him straight up what worked for me.
That Valium was my drug of choice, most of the others kinda made me feel sick.
He told me to get the hell out of his office lol.
We argued, told me after a bit tough cookies until I got a 2,500 dollar MRI.
After the MRI came back with a crushed l4, he called me and said "sorry about that, you can have anything you want."
Memorial Day, 5 years ago, they pulled 2 medium sized shrimp out of me, and I got a second chance.
I still call him every now and then, just to mess with him, "comon doc, I know you got some samples laying around".........
Number two, I've put down at least 100 and never have done that nor seen it done.
Number three. don't have an answer or comment for that one.
Number four, this happens a lot. It doesn't take long to get a hell of a sore if decent care isn't given to turn/reposition a patient on a timely basis (usually every 2 hours is standard). I'm sorry you had such shitty care.
Post a reply to: Anyone have crazy hospital experiences? called me a junkie.lol
