Scottie, that's been the last five years of my life. I kid you not when I say that I'm lucky to stand up long enough to fix a pbj sandwich. Every day is the most miserable intense pain you can feel. Like you, I have to take all the hardest drugs Just to make It through the day while lying down 95% of the time. Fused back that never fused all the way. It's intense while I'm typing this lying down in the bed right now. My whole family suffers as well from It. My son has missed out on soooo much that I did as a child. It tears me apart that i can't share anything with him but misery. I'm so fucking sick and tired you can't even imagine. You don't get a break from the nerve pain. It's a killer.. Sorry for the rant, it's one of those nights where you just get fed up.

Work place injury.
Have two kids under for 4 n it's tough.

I know It sounds cliche, but It really does help to know that you're not alone every once in a while. Thanks brother, well wishes to you and your family.

Yep...I sure hope whatever it is, that he's doing the right thing for his body and not something that may cause lifelong issues by not letting it heal.

I've got some blown discs and bad rotator cuffs and old guys arthuritis but mostly just niggly stuff BUT my wife is now mostly bed ridden with her back. Operations and prceedures out the ass so I have at least a little insight to yer misery. Back injuries are just so unique and manifest so differently that most folks just can't ubderstand. Scottie and Butts I empathise and appreciate your input around here. Hang in there bros.

How the heck does a guy go from being so hurt He can barely get top 20 in a heroic effort to feeling no pain ?

That's an odd injury.
Ditto on those thoughts. I mean...if the injury, or whatever the issue stems from, can go from him being in excruciating pain to feeling perfectly fine at any given moment...why take the ultimate risk of permanent disability by racing at that level without having corrective surgery? I mean, Roczen's still young, and he could have a career ending episode at any moment!

I'm not being a pussy, but I'd hate to see the kid go out really badly.

I haven't heard the official statement of what exactly the problem is with his back more than a "stress fracture". If it's a spondylolysis or similar that has been discussed it can't get worse by riding. Also confirmed by Roczen himself. The pain he felt this past weekend was the worse it gets. The kid got plenty of doctors and physicians around him. Trust them instead of jumping to conclusions. No offense really, not trying to bag on you. Just tired of the questioning of doctors in general around here.

corrective surgery and back surgery do not even belong together. Back surgeries are 50% or less successful and even if they are, there are more problems down the road...it's pretty much a no win. Most i've known, that had back surgery, have said the wish they never did it.

Sorry about the pain.....I had chronic pack pain until I heard about Jon Sarno's book..."Healing back Pain"....he has a 94% success rate with Every and any kind of back pain or pain disorder in general. Do yourself a favor and get the book. It worked for me and thousands of others who had given up hope. I know it sounds to good to be true...but it does work regardless of the structural diagnoses. Since I know how horrible chronic pain is I will post my phone # 530-933-1954 and you can call me if you like. Best wishes.

I had major back surgery and it sucks, stupid #%$#$$ doctor said I would be 110% and better than new. I have so many side effects with the nerves to my legs and mostly feet now I can hardly do anything anymore and have pain pretty much 99.99% of the time. My back itself feels somewhat better, but it wasn't worth all the other side effects I now have. I definitely would NEVER go thru it again if I had the chance.

By some miracle I can't hardly drive a car anymore, sometimes can't walk, can't ride bikes, can't go to the gym but I can still ride MX somewhat.

DON'T GET BACK SURGERY all it did was give a doctor a $205,000 paycheck for 7 hours work. And for you guys that think Ti bolts are expensive they charged the insurance company $105,000 for the "Ti hardware" they installed.

Sorry to side step the KROC post.

Stupid question my avatar picture keeps showing up on the bottom of my posts anybody know how to delete it/keep it from adding it?

A good friend of mine hurt his back working in a steel mill, he had a couple operations, some kind of fusion, ect.

Took him over 3 years to get on to disability, complains of burning & numbness, wife asked for a divorce, if he didn't have

2 kids he would of committed suicide, I'm with you on this... He's living with a house payment making $1,600 a month.

Yep...surgeons love to do surgery, that's for sure and they will always down play the after effects. The other thing that sucks about fusions, is the next vertebrae up will become the weak link and could go as well at any moment.

Reading through these threads and hearing all the familiar back problems and stories sucks. I hate to see anyone have back problems. I have never had the surgery to fix my fractured vert but everyone I know that has gone through surgery and fusions has not gotten much if any relief. The fusions seem to just relocate the problem and require further work down the road.
Here is too Kenny, wishing him the best for years to come.

The problem is not structural....only dumb ass doctors and chiropractors say that by looking at xrays and mri's that have been proven to be totally inaccurate when it comes to pain. As an example; Studies have been done showing 100 people who have blown out discs....but only around 20% experience any pain!
- another study found that 64% of people "without back pain" have bulging discs, protrusions, arthritic changes, herniated discs.
- New England Journal of medicine: Orthopedic surgeon fro Stanford found that baseline MRI'S are not useful predictors of back pain!
- Journal of american medical assoc....."there is on difference in those that have surgery for sciatica or not

There is a deeper reason that pain exists and that only certain people chronically experience it......whether a discredited MRI or xray say something or not. Get John Sarno's book...Healing back pain and you will finally understand whats creating your pain and how to rid yourself of it forever.

2 ER trips in 4 days for me. 25 years in the chair taking it's toll I guess. Perhaps I'll check out the book the OP above spoke about. Hope kenny's up to snuff tomorrow. Everyone else.... I sympathize!

Check out the free book link above.....and know that no amount of sitting, standing, lifting or riding is ever the cause of chronic back pain...if the pain sticks around after a few days to a week... its not because of "your back going out" or any other disc or supposed structural problem.

f your tired of living with pain ....read the book. There are many that would rather live in pain then accept Dr Sarno's diagnosis, but those that do get well at an astoundingly high rate and return to full, unrestricted activity.

I have had that back issue come out of no where and I would go from 100% to looking like a ninety year old for a few days then back to %100. People thought I was faking. Lol Then i fractured my L3 all the way across and burst Two discs and bulged two plus more, Surgery fixed everything even old pinch. My anke is same way. People see me play soccer or tennis, then gimping hard later then %100 again in morning. Neighbors must think I'm faking disability. Nope I'm good.

Took him over 3 years to get on to disability, complains of burning & numbness, wife asked for a divorce, if he didn't have

2 kids he would of committed suicide, I'm with you on this... He's living with a house payment making $1,600 a month.
OMG, that's exactly me. Took me 3 years to get disability as well, $1600 is what I get also. The constant burning/severe aching In the legs Is the worse, especially after the fusion. Me and my wife have had so many big fights. She can't deal with It, and that pisses me off more than anything, she has no clue what I'm having to deal with myself. Sorry If It's too damn painful for me to stand or drive most days.

Thank's for all the kind words guys, It really does mean a lot. I never was on forums 5 years ago. I was working my ass off, and riding on the weekends like most of you guys. This forum Is something that helps keep my sanity while being bed ridden. I've had many concussions, broken bones, you name It. It takes a lot to hold a mx'er down, we are truly a different breed (not always in a better way, lol). And one more thing, by all means DO NOT HAVE SURGERY, unless it's positively your last and only option.

Cheers, Winn
