Thanks for the reply but you didn't answer the question do the posting rules apply to everyone?

Additionally if the civility and language rules are not going to be enforced why even have those rules?

In the absence of a reply to a basic question I will remain of the opinion the posting rules are selectively enforced depending if you are part of the clique or not. That's cool......life isn't fair either.

Most of the people around here are adults. I can't speak for everyone, but I am more bothered by a hypocrite than I am bad words. I think that's why you get so much response, while those using bad language are ignored.

I respect your opinion Grape Ape and share your dislike of hypocrites. If I have been hypocritical i will cop to it. Would you please provide specific examples of how I have been hypocritical. If you can do it without mind reading and telling me what I was really saying (even though I wrote something else) that would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note this thread is a perfect example of because my lack of fondness for big air jumps it gets turned into having a personal issue with me rather than just accepting not everyone likes big air. No matter. ....isn't the first time and won't be the last when people can't debate with facts they resort to making it personal with name calling.

I explained how what you said was not an opinion, and how you absolutely were alluding to his lack of corner speed and motivation, you chose to ignore it.

I will gladly help you out. You made it personal with the rider in the video, not the track. Then when called on it you cried to the mods because people made it personal with you. That's hypocritical, and not very endearing.

With regard to the second paragraph, do you really think it is your lack of fondness for big air jumps that causes people to get personal with you here on almost a daily basis?

Don't like big jumps? Don't hit them. No matter what type of MX track gets built someone will put together a combination that you didn't think of. I have built a few tracks public and private over the years and while I always think about safety I can't stop guys from trying something I may think is stupid.............Nor do I blame them for doing things I think, at 43, is "stupid"........Cool vid, gnarly combination!............

Also, can we find a topic 991 & Rock disagree on so we can keep the pedantic arguments contained to one area?.........

I'm a hypocrite on jumping things for Utube when it's not in the heat of a race for your career. Then I look up this kid's AMA report
card then got to back pedal a bit. The kid's got serious skills & will probably make more money by the time he is 30 then myself
in a life time.

One signature jump is not bad on a track, I just think there should be other ways to slow them down like more turns.
DC needs about 2 minute lap times,

should 30 seconds be in the air?

That would be hysterical, both of them bitching to themselves by themselves. Lol.....Instead of banding them when you've had enough, give them one thread they can post In. You know, like a mini Vital Jail celll. Everyone could even be allowed visitation posting once a week to see If they're ok.

Rock is one of those dudes I'm sure is cool in person but I just happen to not agree with (usually) online but I agree with GrapeApe here. Just because there is a few second clip of a gnarly jump, why does Dungey/Decoster have to come up and assumptions made?

It's the same with a freestyle guy hitting a ramp, someone will respond 100% of the time saying how he probably can't corner in 2nd gear yet a lot of them are former A riders or really good B riders.

Thanks for the replies. Personal biases are obvious here and I can't control what is read into my posts. Because I said Dungey was picked by DeCoster for his corner skills not his jumping skills it was turned into me saying this young man doesn't have any corner skills. I never said anything of the sort but you cant tell it by reading responses. Welcome to the Internet where facts have little to do with reality. I also said something tells me this rider was a professional practice rider but I added "but I have been wrong before." Obviously this young man has some serious racing skills so I was wrong with my feeling and am glad I added "but I've been wrong before" to that post.

Regarding me "crying to the mods" that is an opinion. I only made a comment regarding personal attacks, insults and F bombs are in the rules and are against policy. However since a lot of you don't agree with my position on jumps you turn it into something personal calling me names while I have yet to call anyone stupid or an idiot but yet I "am wrong." Too funny.

What many of you are missing is many industry people and potential sponsors look at this site.....even the ones that say "oh I never look at the forums" in my experience actually do read the forums. It is my personal OPINION that F bombs reflect poorly upon the sport. It is my personal OPINION that big air jumps are not worth the risk but last time I checked it isn't against the law (or Vital MX posting rules) to have an opinion.

On the subject of keyboard bravery I never post something that I wouldn't say to someone's face. I will be at Hangtown and Glen Helen so please let me know if there is a planned Vital MX meeting spot. I will be happy to show up so everyone can take their best shot at me. :-) I have enough friends so my feelings will not be hurt and I will have more respect for you for sharing your feelings in person than I do for tough guys who hide behind their keyboards.

Look forward to meeting other Vital MXers at both venues hopefully. And with this I am out on this thread. Sure will meet again soon in another thread.

Back when the OEM's sold 1 million dirt units a year, nothing like this jump existed on any track. Back then, even professional people like lawyers, doctors, etc. bought bikes for their kids and got them into the sport of motocross.

Nowadays, most parents see stuff like this and are about as willing to get theirs kids into BASE jumping as the modern sport of MX.

Great way to grow the sport fellas.

Outside of the debate on track design, this kid is actually really damn fast, and super nice. I parked next to him at the Mammoth Qualifier at Glen Helen, having no idea who he was, I watched the 450 pro moto and he was flying. Talked to him for a few minutes after his moto and he was a cool kid. I'm rooting for him when he gets to some AMA pro races.

Almost as wrong as the guy who guaranteed Stewart's suspension had been lifted (and put his left nut on the line that it was true) chimes in and has yet to admit he was wrong. Man that takes a huge testicle to keep on posting LOL

I guess even The Rock isn't above personal insults Whistling
Difference is Rick M is too busy doing motos with Judy McCormick to bitch about it.

So you throw out a personal insult at a kid and then get mad when people throw insults back?

Edit; Also, If you're so worried about people reading further in to what you say, maybe you should think a little harder about what your post could imply to the audience?

Wow the Vitard mind readers are out in force in this thread, trying to put words into people's mouth's, tell us what a person is thinking from their viewpoint, rather than just accepting someone has a different opinion to you and respect the right of free speech, we live in a democracy and not Syria!
Perhaps GuyB and the mods need to have some posters take a time-out?. We all know the culprits that are in every thread making statements just to bait a response, or when questioned result to personal attacks, swearing and name calling!

It's like a school playground here of late, "my dad's bigger than your dad", or let's pick on the bespectacled wearing fat kid, or the spotty ugly girl because he/she is an easy target.
I have known Rock for many years. He's a "dyed in the wool" moto fan with his own opinions on safety, rider protection and noise issues. You might not agree, but you have to respect his passion and knowledge.

After his closest friend Phil Alderton died, he took a life changing decision to up sticks out of California and more to Maui, where he teaches special needs children, so comments about "taking the short bus" hit a nerve with Rock.
Hopefully when Hangtown kicks off the Outdoor Nationals this weekend all these keyboard warriors who currently dominate this board will get pushed out by true moto fans with something interesting to contribute to the discussion!

To use your own words, maybe you should think a bit harder about what taking only a piece of what someone wrote could imply to the audience in a wrong way. It should be a rule to never twist what other people say.

People need to step out of their mx fanboy box.

Is this jump impressive? Yes

Is this jump stupid? Yes

Does this jump grow the sport? No

I agree with Razi about the selective editing (but wonder why no response?).

I also agree with Cam..... Impressive jump...... Stupid jump..... Will not grow the sport..... I thought motocross was supposed to be over "natural terrain". Nothing very natural here. It seems as if "motocross" have evolved into "outdoor suoercross". Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of suoercross, but the disciplines are not as varied as they used to be (and, in my eyes, still should be).

Flame on!!!

Rob Kinsey thanks for your words and for posting that picture. So blessed I got to have Steve Bruhn as my roommate and traveling buddy Lommel weekend. As is often the case I had no idea it would be the last time I would see him.

Razi91-love your final paragraph. Danke schoen.

Excellent question Thor RE wonder why no response?

I am with you regarding the two disciplines are not as varied as in the past. Thanks for understanding this is my main point and NOT that I want MX tracks to be flat just want MX to be MX and SX to be SX. Reading the responses here and to the Hangtown threads blows me away how serious some folks take this IE resorting to name calling.

Great way to grow the sport fellas.

At least one person understands where I am coming from with my dislike of big air jumps which stems from my opinion we can't afford anymore injuries that thin our ranks even further. Thanks CamP.

People need to step out of their mx fanboy box.

Is this jump impressive? Yes

Is this jump stupid? Yes

Does this jump grow the sport? No
Great follow up post. The only things big air jumps grow are orthopedics' banks as well as providing job security for the meatwagons' paramedics

I'm pumped for you and others who love to jump. It is a free country. Personally I enjoy being able to walk and race MX more than I do attempting jumps like that.

To the guy who said I jumped to ridiculous conclusions I am only expressing my opinion and everyone else is entitled to theirs. In closing you have to have your head in the sand to not see the connection between jumping and the increase in injuries but wait a minute....it's only the Internet that is making us aware of these increasing more severe injuries....sure Wally.

Just another example of excellent track design....not. God forbid if the insurance goons come down on this sport then all of you jump fans can talk about the good old days after our sport is a shell of what it used to be.
Rock, that jump was put in at Swan for the "pro" challenge. Only the pro's were allowed to do that section of the track. Do some research before you start throwing promoters under the bus please.

Pro section or not IMHO that section sucks but tell me no one has ever come up and got carted off. Keep in mind I will be 59 in July and am not a flatbiller.

I'm not a huge fan of huge jumps either, but no one even cased that jump. It was built for one race and then taken out. Believe what you want, but blaming promoters for giving the fans what they want is stupid.
