Why? Just why? What could that possibly add to the racing? Hangtown is one of the classic names associated with American MX, although it has changed a lot, it's still had an old-school feel to it. This just sucks, leave that stuff for Utah

It gives an option for the riders and the crowd to see something new. Nothing more. Nothing less. And it's only 150 feet of a 2 mile track.

Something new? Nearly every track on the schedule has a booster like that. Hangtown was different for not having one. And it's not just 150ft is it? I'm guessing it's got a pretty long run up to it, and pretty long landing, so it's a whole straight gone where you would have been able to make a pass or make up some time. Replaced by 150ft of fresh air

There was, difference is Qatar is an awful track. It's flat, there's no natural obstacles, so jumps are required to make it even remotely into a track, a bit like Utah. I'm all for nostalgia but Hangtown needed something drastic to happen to make it more exciting. I remember the first time they put the step up at the top of the big hill and the 125's had to hit it pretty damn fast to get over it. Year after year it seemed like the jump got worn down and by last year it seemed a 250f could simply blip the throttle at the bottom of the lip and land perfectly for the inside of the corner. I can't wait to see this new jump in action.

Hangtown is a great track, raced on it a few times.. Glen helen is too but has a huge jump also, with a lot natural elevation changes. I actually prefer natural terrain but jumps like that impress the noobs and I thought everyone wanted to "grow the sport"... actually those jumps impress me too

They are impressive, but only for so long. Kinda like the backflip, when guys first started doing them it's was unbelievable and so exciting to watch. Now pretty much every FMX rider on earth can do one, so it's lost it's wow factor. This is kind of where I am with these jumps now. First time you see someone jump that far it's really impressive, but because of the amount of them now, nearly everyone can clear them no problem. On a jump like that the guy in 25th is going to be pretty much as fast as the guy who's leading

Trust me, Hangtown will be one of the roughest tracks of the year. We have about 500 tons of sand and rice hulls being trucked in right now. This will be the true outdoors. Definitely the farthest thing from SX. It also follows the natural slope of the hill, so it's merely natural terrain on steroids.

Half the riders like big jumps and half like natural terrain. Half like smooth and fast, half like rough and slow. In the end, if half the people hate your track and half love it, you've done your job perfectly.

Lots of psychics in this thread predicting how the racing will go down because of one jump.

Fyi, there was already a man-made jump there. It was a big double, followed by a low orbit fall-away over the access road. It's just a bigger jump now. Not like it replaced a straight away or whoop section.

Of course, the GNCC Husky guys (and I assume KTM, too) have an extra trick. There's a switch that primes the fuel pump when the front brake lever is pulled.

Off topic from the nationals, but have you heard anything about the GNCCs doing away with dead engine starts? Electric starters have really made it pointless over the last few years.

Please please please drastically reduce all the dang banners...its annoying to only be able to see the top half of the bike/rider. I'm sure a few banners near where the cameras are located would suffice. Thx

There are several top pros who have quietly given their thumbs up. I wish DDNMC could give everyone the track they wanted, but the reality is that half of everyone won't like what we are doing. We've lasted 47 years and we are proud of that. Wait til you see our pro awards that may be released in the next day or two. We are trying to lead the series in every way possible. We can only apologize if fans or riders don't like what we do. But we give it our all.

Our ticket prices are one of the lowest in the series and the weather is supposed to be great. Please come out and support the sport we all love. All our profits go back into the club to put on next year's race. None of us personally profit from Hangtown. We are the only club-promoted race in the outdoors. Let's go racing!

No, not at all. I'm really looking forward to the Nationals starting. I just don't like jumps like this, that's all. I've said my bit, the guys at Hangtown do a great job and I'm looking forward to the racing starting

Thank you DC and everyone involved at Hangtown. That was a great race to watch and to hear Ryan Dungey say it was one of the roughest tracks! You should be very proud. More of that please!
