Crashed at the British Championship. It looks like the rear sprocket or handgaurd has lacerated his arm badly and he has lost the top of his right thumb at the knuckle.

I had the classic soccer and rugby players are tougher than moto guys conversation at work this morning..... I let the guy have it, yeah mate they probably are, your probably right. I'm gonna show him that picture and Mel's "got huge motivation to get back racing" comment on Monday. Stay strong Mel, can't wait to see you out racing again.

The real difference is that if it were possible, Mel would race this weekend.

MXers are hardcore.

Jeepers Creepers that is some nasty stuff. I can remember when I was a kid just starting out racing and worrying about chains, sprockets and spokes and the damage they could do. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often.

So savage.
Good to see it hasn't killed his spirit.

Looks like he could be a walk on cast member for The Walking Dead, Sick maybe make some money until he's recovered.

Congratulations to his team of surgeons at the Pulvertaft Hand clinic, Derby Royal Hospital. They are renowned a centre of excellence for hand injuries in the UK, and look to have done a tremendous job re-constructing Mel's hand.
Called in to see Mel in hospital last weekend and he was in fine spirits, considering this terrible injury. He has the love and support of his girlfriend Kat, who hasn't left his side since the crash!
