What if Stewart..

Edited Date/Time 4/16/2015 12:57am
In the midst of the news or lack there of coming from the Stewart debacle. Here's a "what if" questions for the Stewy fans. Where would he be if he signed with Yoshimura instead of JGR? This team is without a doubt the best fit for him since Kawi, and it's a shame he "wasted" multiple seasons on teams in which he didn't have a good run. 2011 was an up and down deal but it didnt' help him to miss out on three outdoor championships.

James has crashed out of every championship since '09. I'm not sure the bikes or teams were to blame.

JGR only lasted 1 SX season (about 6 months?). Not enough time to change anything IMO.

I wish he stayed on his 09 Yamaha for 3 more years and never touched 2010 bike. A1 2010 was painful to watch.

I think his 2013 season with Yosh with a blown out knee was more solid than his "healthy" 2012 season on at JGR.

I would have to say JGR had the last laugh. It was an ugly divorce and JS was banned for a substance that JGR recommended he take. I just wonder if the paperwork would have been in order if he was still under the blue tent?

Now here's a topic to shoot my wad over.

The JGR detour was almost fatal to Stewart's career. Some pretty nasty thoughts about big scary motorcycles burrowed into his psyche from all the abuse that bike dished out. So deeply was it ingrained that it took over a year, until October 2013, to wash all the doubt from his mind. You wanna talk about Stewart-haters -- that bike was the biggest hater of all.

On a Suzuki, and without that abuse, he's a very dangerous title contender for '12 and '13. Then again, he should've been a dangerous contender last year, so reminiscent of his 2009 form was he, but things still fell far, far short of going his way.

So, in conclusion, either he would have a few more titles, or he wouldn't. What he would have, I reckon, is a pretty tasty chance at going after that 72.

I would have loved to see the attempt at making the 09 look like it was a 2010 . Smile

I think his mentality is more to blame than the bike, I mean, he's said many times he wanted to win or crash trying. Lately he's said he admired Dungeys style and approach...so that's leads me to believe he's going to approach the last few years in a different way...take a second or third if he has to instead of pushing to win EVERY race....but to the the original question...the front end on the Yamaha was tough on a guy who relies on front end feel as much as Stew does...

Somebody put up some stats a couple weeks ago showing his average finishes on the new gen Yamaha and all his other bikes, it was shocking to see how much worse his average finishes were on the new gen Yamaha.
As FTE said, it's easy to imagine it would have gone better, but we'll never know...

That wasn't on the menu though, right? I think Kawi didn't want JS anymore with Villopoto coming up. A dumbass decision, if it didn't turn out to be so smart.

Screw them, anyway. He was great on the '09 'Ha.

James will win the 2016 Supercross and Motocross Championships. I think he will make a very strong come back to show FIM that it was a bad idea to take him out of the 2015 Seasons. No Doubt he will win. Im going to just go ahead and say it he will go undefeated for the 2016 Supercross and outdoors

I didn't think there was anyone who would try to put an * on Dungeys 2015 SX title, apparently I overestimated people.

Definitely wasn't good, but it's not like he started crashing in 2010 on the Yamaha... He has always hit the deck, a lot, always. He could get away with it racing one good guy because he was guaranteed to get 2nd. You can't do that when there are so many close guys always racking up good points.

I think alot of people forget about that before JGR signed Stewart, they were originally in contract talks with Yamaha AND Suzuki. That is one reason they caught Stewarts interest. Stewie went out and bought his own personal Suzuki before he signed with JGR. When JGR (and Albrecht) eventually signed with Yamaha they promised James they could make that Yamaha whatever James wanted it to be with all of their resources, i.e. narrower, more useable front end, etc.
Shit, they even signed with Pirelli, but put Dunlops on his bike at A1 practice just to try and convince James.
I don't know if the JGR route was necessarily a detour, but it wasn't a success on paper. Overall, I think it helped James with his own testing and made him realize what he needs a bike to actually be.

I'm not sure the whole Bubba's World deal was a productive time while he was [likely] at the peak of his career.

More like a train wreck.

I will ALWAYS wonder how much he got paid to do that stint.
If he made equivalent to top 5 for the Outdoor National Championship, more power to him.

.....I wil ALWAYS wonder what Reedy warned James about with regards to Larry also.

Funny how someone says the stats tell a certain story (that your looking for)!
When he went to the Suzuki, it was the same story...a few good races and then crash after crash. Has he ever raced every round of any series on his Suzuki...I don't think so...how many seasons now???

It wasnt the same story. He won a race or two on his Yamaha per season and last year he was one of more dominant riders in the series. The suzuki made the difference. Ask Barcia how great that YZ is..... Only tall or bigger people get along with that bike. Its miserable for everyone else besides the writers at MXA.

I loved his show. The Yamaha was junk in a pros hand...they haven't had a legit title contending bike in a while it seems like. That being said I loved my Yamaha that I had...but Im slow and fat. lol

Whats crazy. After all the wins he has thrown away and all the races he has missed over being hurt or suspended, he is only 20 away from MC 72. He could still get that! He has 2 years left? He could pick up 20 more wins over the next 2 years.

Did you not pay attention to the 2014 season? The only guy to really beat him was RV. Dungey couldnt hold a candle to those two. Between RV and Stewart they won 12 out of 17 races. It wasnt far fetched at all.

You seem to forget that Tomac and Roczen exist. As rookies they were behind Stew and RV in 2014 but are on the rise and will be winning plenty of races. Oh yeah, Dungey and Canard are still around too.

So JGR suggested he take adderall? Lets see, JS is a grown man and can make his own decisions?
