RM 125 owners : Difference between 04' - 07' models?

Hey guys , if I remember hearing correctly , I believe the 03' RM 125 had KYB units and then they changed to Showa in 04'? , which was supposed to be quite a bit better suspension back then. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as the chassis , motor and ergo's , was there any noticeable difference between the 04' -07' years? I don't think there were , but needed to ask. I am kind of wanting to pick one up this summer sometime to go along with my 06' RM 250.

I don't think so. Also, my 03 125 has Showa forks, the 250 might have had KYB.

from my memory the 2004 got showa forks and a different engine which was the platform for the following years. the years after 04 had slight mods on porting and the powervalve. on the 04 the powervalve opened too late creating a dip on the dyno charts. responded pretty well to 144 kits. the 06 got oversize bars and rubber mounted triple clamps. basicly i would get the one that is in best shape. wiseco gp piston worked really well on the stock engine. never run an fmf sst pipe as it heats up the exhaust port and seizes the bike. a leaner needle cures the spooge of the exhaust tip.

I had 2 06's and then a 07.

I'm not far Jeffro if you're looking for a good one.

Definitely try to find an 04 and up...and 06 and 07 are the most refined but whatever is in the best shape even an 04 or 05 would work.

The RM250 had KYB for a few years, not the 125. The RM125 had Showa all those years.

04 model to 05 model had many updates and then the '06/07 are basically the same.
-frame slightly different
-went to TPS carb
-updated electrical

I would suggest sticking to '04 and newer

the 2004 is a good bike, but the 2005 is a lot, lot better.

2005 better cylinder head, fixed power valve sealing and power valve timing.

2005 18mm shock shaft, larger pistons in the fork

2005 better offset triple clamps

2005 mikuni power jet carb

Thanks guys i knew i could count on you. Some good info here. I spent time trying to search out my questions and got differing opinions or had no luck at all.

Wparks ...i can't send a pm through my phone but when i get home from work tonight I'll send you one from home. Looks like i need an 05' or newer. If you have a chance maybe take a couple of pics of one you may want to part with.

Showa's came out on the 05 model first. Suspension wasn't updated after 05.

Sorry mate, thats not quite right- the last body update Suzuki RMs came out in 2001.

The 125 had showas in 2001, and has ever since, albeit the thicker shock shaft and bigger cartridges in 2005, followed by valving changes in 2006.

the 250 got showas in 2004 and then the upgraded showas in 2005.

ive owned 2002, 2004, 2005, 2-stroke suzukis- great bikes

I;ve had 01, 03 and two 04's at different times.

The rm125 never had KYB units. It always had showa, the rm250 ran KYB from 01-03 then switched back to showa. Depending on your size youll want your suspension valved/resprung they were on the light side. When i had mine i was 155 novice and it was too squishy

ergos wise not much in changes.I believe the peg position was altered, seat shape and not much else. The biggest change in 04 saw some changes mainly to the engine (by changing to a long rod engine) then after that it saw refinement.
