Maybe the first lap is what we see on the animation and rest of the laps are shorter. Under the bridge on the first lap only, etc.
Dunno. Seemed confusing.

I'm surprised and confused too! lol But I would bet they make changes after practice when they have a few head on collisions.

Hope the holeshot sign is high enough when they come back in the other direction.

I would need 8 hours of practice & 2 bowls of wheaties to figure that track out.

Short start followed by a rhythm section is what these guys have been saying is very dangerous the first lap.

There has been a few collisions in the first few corners (Short 2nd corner last race ) do they drag any racers off track or throw a RED flag ?

Can't wait to see a short start followed by a BACKWARDS section

The first section doesn't go backward until after a full lap. Hopefully any crashes will have been cleared by then, but I still predict lots of riders going the wrong way in that split turn after the sand. They are going to practice that track all day going left in that turn and then on the start it will be a right. It's a cool way to shake up the track design but I think it will fail. I can see this track going bad in a hurry if there are multiple crashes on the first lap...

You're going to find out who's using adderall and who's not about half way through the first lap. I'm still confused!

The regular lap starts at t=37s. Everything before that is just for the start.

From the time the original track map was published before the season, they added the small cutoff to the right from the sand section at t=36. The original map only had the riders doing two lanes before returning to the backward start lane. Now they are doing a full 6 lanes before returning to the backwards start lane. This should give about 45 seconds to clear any accidents that may have happened before the second turn.

It's creative, but will it create good racing?

wasn't there a similar track a few weeks back? and then it didn't end up being like that??
or was it this track discussed a few weeks ago?

Either way, seems strange. But.. different might be good.

I miss the tracks of the 90's with the big inside/outside berms. You know.. the ones "Chicken" and Bradshaw used to completely blow through in order to go outside and "slam the screen door" on each other.

Oh the good ol' days.. before black flags and the FIM. :-o

Won't somebody please think of the children!!?? Grinning

I know that a lot of the riders just have a HS Diploma or GED, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they will figure out when to take each lane just fine.

Just follow Dungey, oh wait he did miss a tour through Joker Lane once.

Have been to almost every Houston SX. As a spectator and amateur in the 70's. As a pro in the early and mid 80's, then as an announcer in the late 80's and early 90's. Have never seen ANY supercross track that uses part of the track backwards. That is CRAZY!

Here is my concern if I was a rider... When will they get to practice on the start and riding that first rhythm section backwards. They are going to have a separate practice session just to practice starts and the first rhythm section that runs backwards.

Should be interested. I just hope they keep Houston on the tour...

Two questions:

1. During practice, will they give them a chance to practice that section both ways?

2. If a rider goes down in the first lap and can't get going in time, does he get to start heading the opposite way (which is now the correct way), essentially cutting the track big time?
