How sketchy is this craigslist deal

Lol at anybody who wants to risk going into to the hood to sell a bike.

It's crazy how many scammers and thieves you get when you post something of value on CL.

I recently sold my 2013 WR450F and had multiple people asking if i would meet them at some odd vacant place so they could look at it. If not that i was offered personal checks, payments ect. ect.

One of the guys that seemed shady (Payment type and wanting me to meet him somewhere) turned out to be genuine. I flatly turned him down on meeting him anywhere besides my home and i only took cash, certified check or a bank check that i called to verify.

After thinking i'd never hear from him again, he drive 6 hours from Nebraska to Iowa to take a look at the bike with cash and a loan check in hand. After handing me the cash to hold onto, i let him take the bike for a spin. After that i helped him load it up to take home. Although, after watching him cruise around in 1st gear i do think he's going to severely injure himself on it.

Moral of the story; Most people are generally good, but you have to prepare yourself as if they're all scum.

Yeah your making a good choice by not selling to him. Or I should say not going to east cleveland it's one of the poorest if not the poorest oarts of the city. Past two bike I just met the person at Walmart. Plenty of cameras and people around. If I was selling I would not go to someone's house and for sure not have them come to mine but that's just me

I have my bike on Craigslist. I get a text yesterday that says " is it still available", I say yes, he says "I'm willing to buy it" which I thought was odd but ok. He says "if I pay for delivery can you drive it here since I don't have a truck". I say yes. So he's in east Cleveland, I'm in Detroit area, which is a 2.5 hour
drive. He then says as long as it runs and rides everything is good I just want to buy it should be like a new bike (it's a 2013).

So I call him later and we talk about when I'm coming and I tell him I'm not coming unless he buys it for sure and he says he has 5000 cash. Now not to be racist, but I found out he is black, and his address is in the inner city somewhat. I told my dad about this and he said he thinks it's someone trying to set me up for a mugging by appointment or something like that. If I meet him in a public place it might be ok but what do you all think. Any suggestions?
I'm the Detroit area too, had my bike for sale late last fall and it sounds like the same guy. Every thing sounds the same. I didn't feel like driving 3 hours to get robbed.

I'm selling a 1972 Wombat Combat and I had a similar email asking to meet up behind Walgreens (didn't say which one or what city), definitely no go.

Most likely scam, but sometimes not. I have a similar story that actually worked out.

I was selling my tl1000 when I finished collage. Was driving through Tampa and had the bike in the back of my truck. Stopped at a truck stop for a gentleman to low ball me and I declined. As I was pulling back on the hwy, I get a call from some stereotypical thug saying meet me at the mcdonalds about 20 min away and that he would pay full price. I had my weapon so I figured why not. Met him there, start the bike in bed of the truck. He pulls out probably $20k in cash and pays full price. He was actually friendly and we talked for a while as I showed him the ins and outs of the bike.

If you think he is going to jump on and take off, just take the coil and spark plug off. Hand it to him after he gives you the money.

I thought Seth Enslow was dead. Cool

How did this end up here? I swear I posted this in the dirt shark bro-show thread. The rumors of Seth's demise in the Crusty era were comical.

Was this guys number routed out of Las Vegas?

Guy called me last week about my 95 cr250. I'm in Cleveland Ohio. East of clevekand. Said he had cash.

He wanted my address. I said "east Cleveland" I'll meet you at any police station. He said he would text me to set it up in 35 minutes. He never did.

I think it could be the same guy. And I'm pretty sure he's looking for someone to rob. Tell him to pay you half on PayPal and to meet you at a police stTion with the rest and he wont ever call you back.

By the way. East Cleveland is a slum. It's a slum until you get to willioughby. The only place safe in east cleveland is the Cleveland Clinic because the police presence is heavy from privately owned Cleveland clinic PD. The city PD is spread very thin I wouldnt mess with this sale. You'll get robbed.

Mt pleasant wheelie kings are a bunch of thieving thugs. Stay away.

These kinds of things make me very scared for my sons future. I have seriously been considering going "off the grid" for his sake.

There was at time where I didn't even want to birth kids into this fucked up world. But, in perspective, it's safer than in many decades/centuries/millennia past. That being said, don't go to Detroit.

We have a vital dynasty to build, glad you changed your mind J.

Hansen, I have the same idea of just shacking up somewhere off grid a bit, but how's the kid gonna learn street smarts? That shit is important. Unfortunate things happen all the time to good people... just part of the gamble I guess.

Damn just watched part 1 and 2... Detroit off the bucket list
I know right? What a damn shame.
The damn shame is the guy only got 35 years, should have gave him the firing squad at the center of the city for everyone to see. Even that would be too nice of a death for someone who can do that to another person though, at that point you aren't a person in my eyes anymore and shouldn't be treated like one.

I don't think it's fair to condemn a 15 year old kid for shooting someone, especially as gang initiation. His motives are likely far more complicated than a simple moral oversight in guilt for harming/killing another human. Some kids see no way to better themselves other than to become part of a (super messed up) boys club, of sorts.

That's a bit of a stretch, no? I know there are shady officers and departments, but in response to a CL ad and or buying and selling stuff like this, I highly doubt a P.O would rob you at gun point and take your bike, that's all I was getting at. All this time, I thought LAPD was perfect and a pillar of the community, am I missing something? The way they are portrayed in media/publicity is just for ratings right?

From a guy that has had a gun to his head from a craigslist robbery in Detroit by a teenager they deserve every bit of the maximum penalty.

How does he plan on getting it to the track/trail without a truck?
When I've sold motorcycles in the past, I always meet at a bike shop. One that is open or where you originally purchased it.

Personally, I don't drive to anyone's house and I don't invite them to my house, unless it's smaller dollar stuff, like parts.

Wow... That video was emotional, scary stuff, by a friend and over nothing, so fucked up... Atleast it had a happy ending, the kid seems super cool and has a level head on his shoulders, lives and loves his life, that'd be enough to mess up most people for good in my opinion. Sad story.
