I recently sold my 2013 WR450F and had multiple people asking if i would meet them at some odd vacant place so they could look at it. If not that i was offered personal checks, payments ect. ect.
One of the guys that seemed shady (Payment type and wanting me to meet him somewhere) turned out to be genuine. I flatly turned him down on meeting him anywhere besides my home and i only took cash, certified check or a bank check that i called to verify.
After thinking i'd never hear from him again, he drive 6 hours from Nebraska to Iowa to take a look at the bike with cash and a loan check in hand. After handing me the cash to hold onto, i let him take the bike for a spin. After that i helped him load it up to take home. Although, after watching him cruise around in 1st gear i do think he's going to severely injure himself on it.
Moral of the story; Most people are generally good, but you have to prepare yourself as if they're all scum.

I was selling my tl1000 when I finished collage. Was driving through Tampa and had the bike in the back of my truck. Stopped at a truck stop for a gentleman to low ball me and I declined. As I was pulling back on the hwy, I get a call from some stereotypical thug saying meet me at the mcdonalds about 20 min away and that he would pay full price. I had my weapon so I figured why not. Met him there, start the bike in bed of the truck. He pulls out probably $20k in cash and pays full price. He was actually friendly and we talked for a while as I showed him the ins and outs of the bike.
How did this end up here? I swear I posted this in the dirt shark bro-show thread. The rumors of Seth's demise in the Crusty era were comical.
Guy called me last week about my 95 cr250. I'm in Cleveland Ohio. East of clevekand. Said he had cash.
He wanted my address. I said "east Cleveland" I'll meet you at any police station. He said he would text me to set it up in 35 minutes. He never did.
I think it could be the same guy. And I'm pretty sure he's looking for someone to rob. Tell him to pay you half on PayPal and to meet you at a police stTion with the rest and he wont ever call you back.
By the way. East Cleveland is a slum. It's a slum until you get to willioughby. The only place safe in east cleveland is the Cleveland Clinic because the police presence is heavy from privately owned Cleveland clinic PD. The city PD is spread very thin I wouldnt mess with this sale. You'll get robbed.
Mt pleasant wheelie kings are a bunch of thieving thugs. Stay away.
OP I think you get the point ya?

Hansen, I have the same idea of just shacking up somewhere off grid a bit, but how's the kid gonna learn street smarts? That shit is important. Unfortunate things happen all the time to good people... just part of the gamble I guess.
When I've sold motorcycles in the past, I always meet at a bike shop. One that is open or where you originally purchased it.
Personally, I don't drive to anyone's house and I don't invite them to my house, unless it's smaller dollar stuff, like parts.
