Well the 125's physically couldn't do what the 250's could do. The 250F can not only do everything a 450F can do, but now they can do it faster. Thus - why not just let both classes race the 250F. If the premier guys are really that premier, they should be able to go faster than the kids - even on the same equipment

How about the premier class riding 250's, and the support class riding 125's like back when racing was fun and interesting?

The pro aint scared of a 450,just some you guys. Don't buy one if it is to much.

The reason AX went to one bike is because the same riders were riding both and it added nothing but money going out of pocket.

And 450s shredded the little AX tracks.

The 450 is the cheapest bike for a privateer that gets them over every obstacle with ease.

The 2 stroke couldn't run on todays sx track ,the lines are to technical ,guys would be blowing tibs thru their boots.

How many top guys are sitting on the sidelines this year due to injury.....hehehehe.

Maybe less power and a return to sane tracks would be good.

Now we know that's not going to happen............. Cause the racing is much better when Dungey is winning the championship by a gazillion points............ Smile

Brilliant idea.

And to help avoid confusion we could call the 250 class the "Supercross class" and call the other 250 class "Supercross Lites".
Now this ^^^^guy is on to something.

Premier class: anything you want to run. Factory based teams will run 250f's with high end suspension because they can afford it and will be quicker than the 450f's. Privateers can still run production based 450's or perhaps larger bore two strokes.

Regional class: up to 150cc two strokes.

Are you saying the little bikes can have powerbands through 3rd gear and the big bikes can have wheelie pulling powerbands in all gears.

Let them all ride anything.

We don't need to explain to Joe Public that you have to be left handed and have an IQ over 100 to be in this "class".

Who is the fastest is what matters. Stop the handicapping of the Premier series in the World.

I still have no clue wtf this threads is about?

You want the 450's to be 250's and the 250's to be 250's.... I don't get your reasoning for this? Smaller engine + less HP+ higher momentum through turns = lower lap times.

The whole point of the "premier" class is riding the same track with more HP Means more skill not lower lap times... Ask Barcia and Tomac how it's working out for them!

I agree 100% with the all 250F class. The other thing that needs to change in the KTM challenge at halftime. There is no reason those 8 yr olds shouldn't be on Service Honda AF 500's, how else are they gonna learn.

It probably doubled interest in the Red Bull Straight Rhythm to have Pastrana on the 500 2 stroke.

SX will never be what it was (2 strokes)...just enjoy it while it's around...250, 450, 650...who cares...the results are always the same. In the 90's people bitched because McGrath won every race by like 30 seconds....it's no worse or better now...move on....jeeeeeeez Evil

That is about the only intelligent post in this thread. Some of you guys should read it very carefully and mabey even read it twice, very slowly to help it sink in.
As far as the original post goes I believe the OP was suggesting having a stock 250's for regionals and mod 250's fo the premier SX class.

What is so wrong with riders and teams picking whatever suits them best? Why the need for rules?

Just to bring it all back home, I was in fact suggesting that the 250F would be good for the "kids" entering the small class and also for the "pros" like Reed who have ridden all kinds of different bikes through the years. When it was two strokes, it would have made no sense to suggest the 125 was enough for both classes, because it clearly wasn't. It was adequate for the "kids." Well if we are so stuck on four strokes remaining relevant - the point where we don't care that the kids are able to go faster than the pros on occasion - then clearly this bike is fast enough for the pros.

Thus the ongoing saga of how the thumper has completely screwed up the entire situation.

If the OEMs were greedy.....well, we know that much, but if the OEM's were smart (that is up for debate) they would have kept the smokers for supercross and mandated four strokes for outdoors since both bikes could have used the extra speed in motocross. Then you can force people to buy everything.

I'd imagine there may be some talk of class changes going on. They did show a graphic during the Saint Louis broadcast indicating that two of the top five fastest qualifying times were set by 250's. I don't believe I've seen that on a broadcast before. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's basically how the demise of the 500's started years ago. Fans learned that the 250's set faster lap times because they were more "manageable" and they just went away despite their high reliability/low cost to race. The young guys entering the MX scene wanted to ride what the fastest pros ran and when they all moved to the 250's the market followed.
