I buy from BTO all the time, they've got the pulpmx discount and shipping will be about 50-70.

Off topic Crush, but up here the QLD gov is finally gonna relax helmet standards so we can finally, legally, run helmets from the overseas on road/trails etc. Sick of spending big bucks here when BTO is so good.

Don't get me started on Aussie import rules and red tape from the ADR... It's definitely needed with some things but sheezus there is a lot of red tape on stuff that should be a no brainer!

I can't wait to get my 6d. I ordered the carbon pro that comes out any day from privateerconnection who gave me the best deal you will find. I tried a few on recently and they feel good so I'm excited.

Great news! Hope you never need it. Of course, if you do, there is some benefit. When I crashed and broke myself, I remember hearing the bones snap all down my left side. I knew I was in trouble, but the one bright spot of the moment was thinking "Holy crap! This thing works!"

We got to the ER and the doc ordered a cath. First time! Nurse got hold of me and started repeating "Relax your prostate!" I was, like, "How the hell do I do that?" I never even thought I could relax my prostate. Doc told my wife "He is still with us because he is strong." lol.

They refused to believe I had no head injury, but I convinced them. Honestly, the impact to my head was the strangest feeling I had ever had, whether dirt bike, street bike or snowmobile. The delay from contact with the ground to feeling of shock is perceptible. I could feel the thing working, even though it's only milliseconds.

Anyway, I think I have bought 5 or 6 of them so far. The first one I bought, I questioned my own intelligence, until my son ruined it in the scariest crash of my life. Downhill, WOT, 250F 4th gear he tied up with another bike. I can't count the number of times he and the bike went end over end. I thought I had lost him. On the way home we joked around. We got home and took pics of the destroyed lid. He had zero injury and my "mission" to tell everyone who will listen to me that this lid is the real deal began. Love the concept, the company, and the people at 6D. Also love to see people buying it. Kudos for making a great choice!

Thank you. That is a testament to how well these helmets work. Glad you're son was ok too. I have always thought helmet design was way behind and so glad there are people out there working for better options.

I rode with a 6d on head today, first time. I was able to fit it with a variety of cheek pads and found what fit best for me. That was nice. I then rode, raced, crashed, raced again crashed again, and I can tell ya I would have felt it with my old helmet (Fox V3). I am so impressed, fit was perfect and surprisingly light.

I am getting back into moto after 10+ years, I am blown away at the advances in safety gear.
I was very interested in the 6D helmets, I to used to only run SHOEI's but after this read and the comments from Bob at 6D I just pulled the trigger on a 6D-ATR-1 Evo Carbon. Had to check three different sites to find a size Medium in stock and the first place that had it in stock it was $70 less than every where else, I only paid $775, expected to pay $845, pretty stoked.

I purchased a 6D right when they came out. Was on a wait list for a while. I completely agree with the concept.

When I got it, it was too stiff and hurt my head, so I went back to the Arai...which is super soft.

However...I called 6D with this issue and got the most amazing service that one could expect. They sent out some new foam and instructions and I installed it...and...now the 6D is the only helmet I run with.

I should add that I don't have much hair so that may have something to do with it.

And...I don't really know much about the technology BUT I really do like the fact that the have a piece of safety equipment that they test and show the numbers from.

So I'm a fan.

By the way, brain injuries, even the really small ones, are a really big deal...for the rest of your life. So...don't skimp on helmets.

I purchased a 6D when my son moved up to a 250F and started getting faster (arguably faster than his skill level, lol!) His brand new lid was only a few days old when he took a crash that completely destroyed it. Long story short, he came home, did his homework, went to school and played football. It was like some kind of miracle. I called 6D to explain the situation and spoke with Scott and Bob, who were very interested in my son's health and eager to examine the helmet. Since that day, my son has worn nothing but the ATR-1. He has been through a few of them, but not one concussion.

Last crash was a couple days ago--Saturday before Father's day. He was double-doubling whoops, but picked a higher gear. He did a spectacular endo and landed on the back of his head. Wrecked an oversized rotor in the process, so he couldn't practice any more, as he wanted to. Then we reviewed the damage to the helmet and had one of those father-son hugs. He said "These things are amazing! I literally did not feel a thing." Then he spent the day cleaning the garage instead of racing . . . 'cause he won't ride with any other lid. Smart kid. I got to catch up with my bud at 6D today. There is no better customer service for anything that I have found. Great people, great principles, great product. I agree with you 100 percent, DaveJ.
Dragon,

For just 7 posts, you sure have a lot to say. Glad your son keeps doing so well after all of his crashes, but please tell me you were kidding to let him play football after destroying his helmet in an MX accident?

If so, you are an ignorant man my friend and not doing your kid any favors.

Thanks dude. Will do.

Once I have some good seat time on the track with it ill post some more detailed feedback.

Hopefully I won't need to provide crash test details, ha.

Took a pretty hard slam yesterday, 4th gear pinned scrub, instead of riding it out the rear tire landed in a hole and swapped back and slammed me down to my shoulder and head. I was wearing my 6D ATR Carbon. I was knocked out but I came to shortly after I went down. I was taken to the ER and treated for a mild concussion and broken collar bone and a few cracked ribs. Long story short I think this helmet prevented worse head injury than what could have been. Unfortunately it cracked in three spots as shown below. I thought I read somewhere I could get a $200 credit towards a new 6D helmet if I send mine in, is that still true? Or could someone at 6D chime in, I will for sure buy another, my concussion was mild but my crash was hard. IMO the helmet did its job.

@drop_the_Beat_Mx Thanks for posting! We’re bummed to hear that you had a chance to test your helmet, but definitely glad it did its job. We do offer an impact inspection service, and strongly recommend that riders send in their helmets immediately following any significant impact. We also have many customers that send their helmets in for a regular checkup at the end of the season.

Essentially there are three possible outcomes in an inspection:

Ideally, the helmet would still be good, and can be returned to the rider right away.

If the helmet has any damage to the shell, which is unfortunately the case with yours, the helmet is considered to have lived its useful life, and is obviously not suitable for continued use. In this case we would offer you a discount on a replacement, based on how long you have owned the helmet.

If the shell of the helmet is still good, meaning it has no cracks, fractures, deep scratches or anything else that might be a structural concern; we can replace just about every other part, including the complete inner EPS assembly.

The inspection is a free service, with the exception of shipping to and from our office, and the cost of any replacement parts the helmet may need. Most minor repairs can be completed free of charge, however there is a small labor charge associated with a full rebuild. Typically a complete rebuild will run about $250-$300, depending on what parts the helmet needs.

Once we receive the helmet and are able to inspect it, we can give you a full report on its condition, and let you know if it can be repaired, and what parts it may need.

Please feel free to contact us directly and we can start the inspection process.

We’re available from 8 to 5, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday

I look forward to speaking with you.

#65,

Heal up soon and stronger then before. Damn, it was just a month ago we were joking about not having to do this. So sorry, man. But, we know the deal...I broke my right clavicle in a similar way. Tried to get flat over a dorito type jump and landed swapped, got flicked super hard, snapped the collarbone but saved my noggin somehow. I was too hyper to let the damn thing heal, so after 6 weeks they got the drill out and plated mine. I hope yours can heal naturally, fingers crossed for you, the plate still bothers me 5+ years later.

I have some experience with 6D's support, after I knocked myself out wearing my 6D non-carbon. Scott was absolutely great to work with, very professional and knowledgeable, as-is all the people at 6D. You just get the feeling they really do want the best for you, and that goes a long way with me and my family.

Good luck and get back out there soon.

Thanks Doug,

Yeah the old school methods of slowing down and getting big air and grabbing brake to pitch it for landing worked in the past, but with the new scrubs looking cool as hell and being so much faster I have been trying to master these new techniques. After 10+ years out of it I should have waited a little longer to scrub a big gap, I had been hitting it perfect the day before the oldschool method, but I was having to slow down to downside it perfect. Here is a helmet cam video of me landing it perfect in 3rd gear.
(when I crashed I hit it in 4th gear pinned and unfortunately was not on video because everyone said it looked sick, ha)

I hear ya. My learning curve on the scrub was a rough one, too. In SoCal, the novice guys are scrubbing stuff and whipping bikes over 60' doubles like nothing. Everyone is fast, here. There was a 110-120 foot step over at a track called Racetown 395 in Adelanto. After a couple years of eye-balling it, I finally decided to sack up and get towed in behind a pretty fast guy who was hitting it every lap in practice. My Irish luck was kicking this day, because the one time i towed in behind him was the one time he was hitting it another gear higher and scrubbing it; he had not scrubbed it any of the previous times before. So i had the horrible pleasure of seeing him scrub, as my wheels are about 4' over his head. There goes the landing and I landed at the bottom of the run-out, thank God not flat landed and double thank God it was a step-up...or I would have been destroyed. I still bottomed out so hard it ripped my foot of the peg and I ended up losing a toenail from it.

Here's the jump, a week later with another friend when I was doing it successfully: https://youtu.be/GPStXpFW5MQ

and here's the toe carnage after i almost wadded *viewer discretion, not for panzies, candy-asses or the faint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4agWzO-Xjs

Unfortunately we will not be at all of the regionals, but we will have someone at Loretta’s for sure.
Shipping may be your best option, usually UPS standard ground rates are pretty reasonable, and we try to turn the helmets around and get them back out to you as quickly as possible. Give me a call directly and I can give you an idea of what to look for. You can also email me pictures of any problem areas. Sometimes it’s possible to tell the condition of the helmet that way.

Until we get our hands on the helmet, it’s tough for us to say for sure what condition it’s in, but I can say that out of all the helmets we’ve inspected, the ones that were done were usually pretty obvious, so generally speaking, if it looks ok, it probably is. That said, we always encourage riders to err on the side of safety. Our rule with helmet inspections is “when in doubt, get it checked out”
