What's eating Ryan Villopoto?

Ryan Villopoto carded a pair of fourth place finishes and knows he will need to find a little extra heading into the next round.

“This weekend was OK; it's not exactly what we wanted but we were able to improve in the second moto and to be right up there with those guys was good, but we still need to find a little more, and definitively to improve our starts." Villopoto commented. "It was tough without a good start, I was able to salvage and get up there and come with them in the front, but Max was riding really well, and so were Toni and Clement.

"To pass all those guys would have been hard but I think that if I had a little more speed I would have been able to make a little more happen. Once again I’d like to stop saying that but I need to get used to the format of the GP, and we’ll do some more work with the team and hopefully be better in Italy.”

honest and humble. Ofc he wants to improve and he needs to. Clement, Cairoli, Nagl wont slow down they just tractor themself especially tony who is very good at just being fast and solid and poor on towards the end of the motos. Ryan needs to adapt easy as that, no excuses. 1,5 year of did not help him. I would love to see any other of the top names no matter pond take 1,5 year of and still be in the hunt for the championship in a series they dont use to race, no excuse for it but ofc it has to affect him. Bring the next race, some comments in this forum makes me laugh, no wonder the people in the industry makes fun of the people of vital. The disrespect and " bragging about wich side is the best is ridicolous.

My opinion is that Ryan needs to adapt to not push to hard in the qualifier its obvious to me that Ryan is getting Tired in the end of the second moto, and he needs to do something he have been known for making it happend earlier in the motos, Raw speed is something he got , he needs to find some good setup, ofc the improve every time they are racing and training, ( again this is my opinion ) But i have to give it up to Clement, even himself did not believe he was going to the be points leader by now. Cant wait to they get back to europe so we can see if the advantage everyone from the right side of the pond is talking about is going to be that big or not.

That works bike talk idk, according to Ryan and the team tthe bike is not night and day difference from what he had in the state, and maybe that is a reason setup vise. Carbon airbox, different triple clamps, pieces here and there but its not like is riding a bike he never ridden before so i dont think that should be a excuse either tbh.

Its only a short snippet from Stoner so it's hard to really know the full details of what is going on in the team, but I can't see it being a situation where RV is not getting what he is asking for when it comes to bike set-up. Stoner never needs a second invitation to bitch and moan about something, so it could just be him whining about nothing. The team know GP racing inside out, RV does not, he should be very open minded about what info and advice the team has. If he isn't, then that could be the reason he is struggling

And how do people know he is not open minded ? Some people here on vital from europe claims he is not listening to them (krt) the source for example? How would he know? but tbh yeah he must change the bike a bit and adapt, but he cant just change everything that would make him even more uncomfortable ? I think they are working their ass of to improve or ofc they do,. I do believe ryan is willing to test alot of different setups.

Some of you people, on both sides, are way too emotionally vested in the success/failure of people you dont even know and need to consider getting a life of your own, sheesh.

We don't lnow that he's not being open minded about the teams ideas, I'm sure he is. Stoner doesn't seem to be, that was the point I was trying to make. He seemed to try and make out that the team were giving him too much advice, but is his position, with the data they have it would be stupid no to, whether or not he chooses to go that way is up to him, but I'm sure he'll want to know any ideas that they have. I know that RV and Casey are good friends, but I'm not sure Ryan will thank him for those comments

I get what you're saying but regardless of if they've won a championship or not that team has had riders racing them tracks for years they know how to set a bike up for each track. RV has never rode 99% of these tracks and his set up just simply doesn't work it's easy to see. maybe it's his style that needs improving for the more technical less wide open tracks but he doesn't look like the rider that dominated in America. He needs to slow down to go faster if that makes any sense at all
It's been discussed before...

Here read this by TheSource : Something else that's a plus is that while traveling to races you will have a few riders show up at little local club tracks in route and practice with the kids watching in a state of awe and shock. Nothing pretentious and that why the fan base in Europe seems to be more knowledgeable and dedicated. Almost every small town has a local club with MX ,Enduro and auto track and having a load of GP riders show up to put in some laps just takes it to a personal level and back to the basic roots of what MX is all about.

Bro, I had this one down for the Dumbgeon in less than ten when I started it.

Villipoto is doing just fine, he's sitting in a great position for the championship and will more than likely improve as the year proceeds. Whether or not he takes it is anyone's guess as there are at least 3 other irders who are in with a shot.

Again, thank you RV for making the GPs far more interesting!

Nothing.

RV has forgotten more about MX and training than most of the Vital MX members will ever know.
3/31/2015 11:29pm
Those GP guys don't make enough fucking mistakes.

Also, RV, maybe chill a little on Friday.
3/31/2015 11:49pm
You wouldn't think any pro motocross riders would struggle riding 2 days in a row I know it's different to what he's used to but it's his job surely he trains more that 2 days in a row. I know the pros near where we live do 3 x 30 min motos and train most days with a rest Friday. RV will be very very fit possibly not as fit as a few years back but still shouldn't be struggling. I actually think it's not his fitness as his moto 2 result at Argentina was better what will tire him is fighting the bike when his set up is wrong. hope he pulls it together I wanna see someone challenge tc222 I know cd and mn have started strong but by the mid point ac will have run away with it as per usual

This is the team that has NEVER won a 450 (250 2-stroke) championship, correct? Villopoto has 2 AMA 450 outdoor championships, has never lost an MXdN, has 4 supercross championships, and 3 AMA 250f championships.

And they are dictating to him to do it "their way?"

Wow.
With the decade of experience the team has in the GPs, if they were really dictating him anything, I can tell you he wouldn't have ridden that chopper in Qatar...

From what we hear on this side of the pond, it's the opposite way. Nobody in the team dare to tell RV what to do... Rightfully so or not.

When RV forms his own Independent team like DP19 he can have any setting he believes will work for him. RV is just a hired rider on the flagship Kawasaki Factory Racing Team. This team has been developing & engineering the Kawasaki bikes on your showroom floor for years. They have no production rule to follow like in the AMA, they can design and build any bike RV can dream of. RV's lack of experience in the GP's has become painfully visible in the ongoing bewilderment of finding "settings" that work considering that KRT has had no prior problems having a GP level bike on the gate. The only major change to the KRT team has been the replacement of their riders for this season, connect the dots.

Settings that work for one rider won't work for another. It's not like the team can just build the perfect bike and any rider can hop on it and be perfectly set up.

And since the team can build whatever they want, the team should be able to build a bike that will work for Ryan's riding style on those tracks...with no limits on the bike, Ryan shouldn't have to change his riding style at all...its the teams responsibility to build him a bike that will work for him. It's not Ryan's responsibility to change his riding style to suit their bike.

If there are setup issues (and I'm not sure there are major set up issues) I would think they are more likely related to communication, than anything else (meaning a stubborn rider who won't listen to the team).

Haha ones again " europe is doing everything" The R&D is only in europe nothing in USA, KTM´s new bike " have nothing to do with Roger & Ian and Redbull KTM USA, HRC ´s connection with Factory Honda USA . Suzukis main engineer even came over to further develope the bike,

Who made the kawasakis 250F so dominate and good when they came out, Mitch Payton (pro circuit).

Read this before you talk about : http://motocrossactionmag.com/bike-tests/honda-tests/the-man-in-charge-…"

Europe is making the bikes on your showroom floor = bullshit its a collaboration between Japan -USA / Europe. Or for KTM / Austria /USA / Europe.

And is it not logical that RV have lack of experince in the gp´s, but does it matter, because they have some data from Gautier paulin dosent mean that it works for Ryan? Every rider is different and OFC it is visible from a man with no experience of the format or tracks in europe.

Ryan himself said he was open to listen to them and test what they got etc, but does that mean it would work perfect, hell no? Stop making it up like it is all ryans fault mr swede cause you dont know, you just speculating trying to " claim" it is 100% facts.

As pointed out already, how has that attitude (if it actually even exists) worked out for Kawasaki when it comes to championships in the MXGP/MX1/450 class over the last decade? Apparently they've had lots of problems developing a championship winning bike, based on the lack of championships.

If they want to continue to not win titles, then not listening to what your racer wants is an excellent plan to meet that goal.
