What's eating Ryan Villopoto?

None of the euros would do as good as he's doing over there over here. It's still a 2nd class racing league compared to the Ama nationals.

Everyone can be some what civil with each other, then here he comes and shits on everything. I understand rooting for your rider, but fuck all the disrespect. Even "The Source" is not so blatantly disrespectul, and makes good points every so often. I haven't been a member of Vital as long as most guys on here, but ever since I joined he's been an antagonist it seems.

I'm surprised at how many guys (I've barely heard of) are running RV's pace. I think it's awesome though, and I hope he figures it out in time for the championship.

If you compare his forks to the others, it looks like RV is running SX suspension, which is affecting his line choice.

I seriously doubt sx suspension. his set up shouldn't be that far off the team has been going this enough years to know what works. I'd say it's more his lack of wanting to slow down to get to the insides the guy twists that throttle so hard

In the first moto it looked that way. In my opinion it seems hard for him to go inside because he's running his forks so high and rear too low like DV talks about (that will make you go wide). If he would just try a more balanced approach, but he probably will never because he's always ran his front to rear out of balance. You can see it too actually while he's out there. Everyone to his own I suppose.

RV is running different suspension components than what Paulin raced with.

I meant a more balanced approach like paulins, not actually Paulins setup. you quoted me while I was editing that part. lol...My point is, I just find it funny that he runs his bike so far off from what everyone would consider the norm. I know I could never ride chopper style, so I don't see how he does it at such a high level. I use to notice the tiniest of ajustments to my sag or forks.

I think the expectations may have been a little too high going into the season, and I'm guilty of it too. I didn't expect him to smoke everyone but I didn't expect him to be 27 points down either. Looking at it realistically he's probably right about where he should be going into an unfamiliar series. And on a positive not he's already got a win under his belt, and also there's a long way to go and he's not out of it yet.

What you just stated is the main reason why I don't think he should go for such a radical change to his setup. He's developed his style to work with the bike how it is. I think it would be to big of a change mid-season. My opinion is they need to keep tweaking what they have round-to-round and not get too far away from what makes him comfortable.

He hasnt raced MX in a while and he has some solid competition. Even in the US when he was winning, he was still beatable.

Track surface; Slippery, bumpy, difficult tyre choice, lack of berms/ruts to rail...

He's still Ryan-Fucking-Villopoto, he'll be fine and he'll win again.

Yeah...I was exaggerating!

When he tries to go inside, the front pushes on the entry and then stands him up in the apex, which makes him let off the throttle for an instant.

Ha dumbass... CD came over year before last with Stribos and both of the got like 5th and 6th two weeks in a row and one was at a new track. CD has never beat RD in America.....The reality is that its super tough to come over and win in either series right away. And Kroc and Marvin couldn't break into the top 3 their first full year.

There's a long way to go in the championship, and it's certainly not over yet, but as it stands RV is 27 points down having raced 2 rounds on tracks that are brand new to everyone. The next few rounds will be familiar to everyone except him, so he really has his work cut out for him. Next up is Trentino where Desalle won last year, after that is Valkenswaard where Cairoli hasn't been beaten for 5 years, then is Spain where Desalle went 1-1 last year. The championship is heading into the strong hold of his main opposition, whilst 4-4 is not bad, if Desalle and Cairoli get stronger when they get back to Europe, which I think they will, then it's going to be a long way back

And Dungey has also shown that no Euro including CD 25 or TC can beat him on American soil

I do agree he seem to struggle a bit with setup. But he made changes in the right directions for the second moto. He was close to the podium. He will be better. I think Ryan is more than capable to put this lady to the top of the podium

It looks to me like he is choosing lines to try to avoid bumps. (duh right?) His setup looks like it is still giving him problems when the track gets sacked out. It might go so far as that they can give him the right setttings, but it feels so abnormal to him that he is having trouble adjusting to the feel.

I'm probably the most impressed with Nagel......and his bike looks really good too.

I've got to give it to KTM....they seem to have the best bikes right now. The engine and suspension setups are dead on... Husqvarna is looking pretty good as well (Thanks KTM). Every one of their bikes get great starts and look smooth and dialed in on the track. Credit to the riders of course but the setup is excellent

That is how KTM have been since 2010 pretty much in europe. Dominating and good bike setups and quality riders. But Ryan is by no means out of this.

This thread has the wrong title. It should be the "Excuse" thread. Everyone is just echoing what I posted months ago and was called a anti American Ryan hater. It his suspension? Please, gag! It's his condition? fart! No GP rider would do as good in the Nationals, lame, swivel away from the point. Where is all the chest beaters circle jerking themselves with "RV will destroy and dominate that 2nd rate series"?
1. RV has just ran into the best riders and teams in their series doing what they do best, perform in the World Championship to develop and engineer the bikes for the manufactors that will be used by the AMA teams and sold to the consumers.
2. RV is just a first seat saddle jockey on one of the most advanced, experienced, technically advanced European Race teams which develop the bikes the AMA teams will be throwing bolt on performance parts on next year.Everything RV could imagine to inprove his bike is available to him, This is the GPs rules (prototype and development) not AMA restrictions. If RV has refused or insist on doing it his way that's his choice and it's not working to the GP level, who's fault?
3 RV made a desicision to not follow standard GP team protocol and bypassed the pre-season completely even though he is a rookie and has no knowledge or track time with any of the riders or teams he will compete against.
4. Anything RV has acomplished in the past has no merit to the riders he is competeing against now.
5. Any discussion, argument, excuse or suggestion you have for or against RV will not have any effect on RV.
6.Everyone should relax and enjoy this once in a lifetime season.
7..The European followers and participants in the GPs knew RV would be about where he's at right now, not a surprise to us.
The American fans who have not a clue as to what the the GPs are and are just now getting aquianted, a warm welcome to
you, sit back and enjoy. Your level of MX intelligence is being upgraded right before your eyes.

Are you freaking serious! Dungey would be smoking everybody? When did Dungey ever beat RV in the outdoors for a championship? I have nothing but respect for the Dunge, but the euro's have been slapping him silly the past few years at the MXdN. NO WAY would Dungey be doing better than RV at this point of the series.
