I wonder if RV wins the title if the Euros will change there mind on this you gotta ride in the sand thing all the time. It seems like its a trend only followed because the 2 current domination world champs always ride the sand?

Watching again Ryan looks really good as well... how many times has Herlings and Nagl ridden that track vs no times times for RV.. you euro folk should not cling too tightly to these tracks cause there is a surprise coming, me thinks Smile

impressive! so the kids on the 125s were 6 seconds faster than RV as well, as they were only 2 seconds or so slower than herlings after re-watching the the very beginning of that video..... or maybe herlings wasn't trying so hard in that segment of the video? **** sorry, couldn't resist**** ;^)

they all look fast!

in all seriousness, RV sounds like he's on a 250..... i don't know that i have ever heard someone bouncing off the rev limiter on a 450 as much as he does. "the man" said that very few people can use all the power that a 450 has to offer..... at times RV sounds like he needs more! that kid's skills are insane! actually, all of them have amazing talent.

Nagl has taken to that Husky quite well, looked comfortable and had good drive.

I tried doing some segment counting myself and it seemed herlings was faster. Cool video for sure.

Looks like a difficult track to make up time on, it seems pretty fast, it wasn't all that rough. It did seem like Herlings was the fastest, and you could see that Nagl was pulling away from RV a little. RV looked fast for sure, but he didn't look as comfortable as the others, they all seemed to be pulling higher gears than him too. He'll get there, whether or not he gets there for Valkenswaard in a months time remains to be seen

Don`t know. All I know is Cairoli had the last day of training yesterday and is flying out to Argentina. Perhaps those guy`s are doing the same.

And that is the issue, nobody who is fast in the sand on a 450 sounds fast ... Waters Watson and Nagl were all a gear higher at least., That's where the momentum comes from.

That's something that Herlings manages to do as well, even on a 250. To carry a gear higher than everyone else, like you say, it's all about momentum, especially as the track gets more whooped out and rough

What is the secret to riding sand? I'm seriously curious. Is it finding the lines that are packed in tighter as opposed to loose sand, or what?

Keep momentum in the corners,go bump 2 bump when rough, let the power of the bike do the work to save MUCH energy, dont hold the bars to tight in the hands or you get armpump in about 2 laps, work with the legs.
I ride these tracks a lot and do nothing of the above so i suck

This is a quick but interesting vid. It's titled "cornering" but Stefan spends most of his time discussing sand here. As above he also mentions running a higher gear whenever possible and some other good tips. Wish I knew what the secret was too, I guess the easy answer is religiously practicing all the right techniques over and over, but it does seem to be something that some riders can take further than others. Cairoli has mastered it whereas it still looks to be a weak point with Searle (not saying he can't get better too).

At the beginning of the video, we can calculate some lap times because the guy capture 1 full lap (you can see Nalg and Herlings at the very beginning of the video and then they pass again at about 2 minutes)

Herlings was in 1:33/1:34 a lap, Nagl was in 1:32/1:33

So Nagl was little bit faster that lap.

Also:
Keep standing on the pegs and keep the front end light by staying on the back of the bike.

this^^

and at minute 10 you can see RV's Pitboard: 1.34,1/1.34,1.., they were all pretty even, but the track was in good shape. Not really rough.

RV rides the track overly aggressive, dont get the flow and the smoothness that the other riders has, and i think that will hurt his cornering speed trough the sand berms.

Herlings is so fast an silky smooth, and when we are on a forum where some tards think that HP is everything, remember that Herlings is about 10 HP down on the mx1 riders.

But the track is pretty hard packed compared to Lommel and is pretty smooth so the advantage of Herlings is smaller here than what it would be on a real sand track like Lommel.

RV looks good as does Nagl. So hard to judge who is going to come out on top this season!
