Randy was a great guitarist. This album is actually the one from Ozzy that I haven't listened that much. I have to correct that asap.

This has got to be up there as well. Adrian Smith has so much taste how to play just enough and not too much.

And how about this one: Prince at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame playing "While my Guitar Gently Weeps". He's often not thought of specifically for his guitar skills- maybe because he's so well rounded musically- but he murders this solo.

There are so many outstanding guitarists that it's impossible to pick a favorite player much less, a favorite solo. To me, a great solo is lyrical, vocal even in the phrasing. I just love the way EVH put together the solo in "Mean Street" from Fair Warning. Really, even the rhythm parts in that song are killer. Alex Lifeson's outro to "Mission" from the Hold Your Fire album is great. And I have to give honorable mention to Joe Satriani on "Flying in a Blue Dream." He just makes that instrument sing in that tune. The sustain is unbelievable.

AC/DC's "Overdose" has a raw swagger. No overdubs or digital editing; just pure blues-rock greatness, including the sound of Angus' fingers sliding along the neck of his SG. The entire song has a live-to-tape feel, and puts you in that mood to throw something through a window.

That is my favorite all time solo as well. So funny in all the years as a guitar player and a big time Maiden fan I have never heard anyone else say that till now. On a motocross foreign nonetheless lol

I play this solo at lease 5 time a week. It is so badass.

Alexander the great...starts spooling to the build up at 4:40 5:45 gets to the badass solo by Adrian then it is followed up by a pretty badass legato solo by Dave Murray at 6:32

There is a diff between a Solo and a lead break (ride)........ Just sayin....LOL All good though. Just to many the more you think the more you start second guessing. Zakk's lead in No more tears has always been one of my fav's too and the slide work is pritty bad ass.

Listened to a lot of Maiden in my youth, not so much in a lot of years. The local station in the Lloyd area plays "Can I Play With Madness" a lot, must be the only tune they have in their rotation. First time I heard it, I was reminded how awesome Maiden is, and oh, that Bruce Dickenson. Damn, does that guy know how to sing. Anyhoo, back on track, some great guitar work in that tune.

Stanley Jordan. Guy is a genius. I saw him play at a local Jazz festival years ago and he blew my mind. Not many people alive can play that well with that kind of tone, much less with the technique he uses.

The dual Smith/Murray lead on "Prodigal Son" to this day ranks as my favorite Maiden solo. It's also one of the few songs they do not perform live. Sure, it's a ballad, but still maintains an edge.

Good stuff in here, Seasons in the Abyss is my favorite Slayer song for sure. Also agreed on the Pink Floyd and Maiden!

As far as current stuff, Almost any Between the Buried and Me song has a mix of beautiful/shreddy guitar work and I love shit like this that probably no one here has heard. I like the mix of melodic and shred.
