That's right, he got hurt in Germany. I remember him riding the 125 usgp now that you say it. He wasn't much of a 125 guy but he did ride that and Mammoth on a 125 in 81 or 82 where Lechien beat him.

Marty Moates raced in Europe on the Ossa before he won Carlsbad 1980.

Magoo raced the 125 USGP at Mid-Ohio that same year Hansen did (and O'Mara won).

Hannah's first GP was years earlier, the epic '76 Mid-Ohio showdown with Marty Smith -- the one time all year Marty beat Bob.

Trampas Parker raced one GP in '87 or '88 before he showed up and blew everyone's minds at the start of the 1989 125cc Grand Prix season.

On foreign soil, only Pomeroy, Smith (Brazil) and Dymond (Argentina) come to mind. Kiedrowski did win the actual 125 GP final in Japan in the 125 class (where Healey flipped off Stanton in the 250 class).

is this off the top of your head, or are you looking all this up?

I seriously doubt Davey Coombs has to look up his MX history information. The guy is a walking Motocross encyclopedia.
he already clarified its off the top of his head. and i by no means doubt his expertise. but did you see all stats hes dropping, some of which being from 30 or so years ago. shits crazy. lol.. im actually impressed by quite a few peoples knowledge of the history of the sport.

Thanks, lucky to have a good memory for history and stats, and I've been a fan all of my life. And working on magazines and websites every day keeps me brushed up.

And anyone who wants to deep dive on World War One and some really cool history, check out Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast series, beginning with Episode 50: Blueprint to Armageddon. It's the war, explained in modern terms, and from all sides. I was talking about it with some of Jeff Cernic's friends from Germany last night at the Ocean Deck. Good stuff!

Marty the man I believe raced the USGP a couple times before he won Rob...could be wrong on this too.
I just re-watched Carlsbad USGP for like the 50th time just the other day. God those old ABC wide world of sports shows would give me goose bumps. Just something about that era that brings back so many memories for me.

sorry to dig up old thread - but this thread is useless without pictures of Donnie Hansen in Vimmerby Smile

And Donnie with Danny LaPorte to his left, and Soren B. Mortensen from Denmark to his right:
