so what was the deal with hill not being allowed to race? from the sounds of what hill was saying when interviewed, the AMA doesnt recognize bells "Magnefusion Emergency Release System (MERS)" as a proper hats off device? later in the broadcast they just simply stated that he didnt have one at all? seemed kind of dickish to glaze over the fact that his helmet did have an emergency release system in place, just not the one they wanted.

I'm sure it's because the guys in the booth have no idea what Hill was even talking about in regards to the cheek pads in his Moto 9 and therefore couldn't offer any further explanation.

Josh Hill was talking about the cheek pad removal system, which quite a few brands have. What Josh didn't have was the "Hats-off device" which is a small air balloon that you inflate to push the helmet off the head without jerking it around. Josh didn't have this in his helmet, and it's required to race. Most big name riders would have someone install this for them. Considering it's the new Flex helmet, I'm sure he was just given it that day or week and didn't bother to check it. I'm really surprised he made it through tech with that helmet, unless he switched helmets mid-day.

Not the first time this has happened. If you don't have a hats off device, you are SOL.

Use to be the helmets were checked at tech inspection with the bikes.

What incompetent posting to say that. Wink

This is nothing new. Teams generally worry about details like the bike. Riders (and sometimes a gear or helmet rep) are responsible for their personal gear.

Shouldn't Bell have made sure the helmet was legal? It seems like a PR fail on Bell's behalf to me.

Seriously? What does the team have to do with the riders gear? I would say it's possibly the helmet reps issue...

And they still are. Liners and cheek pads often get changed during the day. Sometimes the Eject doesn't make it back in.

I can think of someone getting pulled off the line in the past for the same issue.

That's twice you've got me in real time GuyB. I blamed the AMA on twitter and you straightened me out. I tried to correct Uk125250 and you beat me to it. Quit pickin' on meWink

I thought his "looks like they are out to get me" comment (or whatever his exact words were) came off as childish and made him look like a fool. Unless the broadcast left out some details, it seems he dropped the ball and it was his fault.

So he realized this after the gate drop because he just slowed down and pulled off.

That's your issue not the teams.....regardless of what you feel about the team the helmet issue had nothing to do with them.

I'm blaming the girl on the back of Hill's helmet.

Looked like he was maybe carrying it on after qualifying in the Semi by throwing his hands up at the officials just after the checkers.

I loved the part where Josh said the Officials were out to get him, lets just forget the part about personal responsibility.

^^^

And whats up with the topless chick on the back of his helmet? I've always been a fan of his but I find it interesting that the officials even allow that shit. I know, I know, half naked Monster girls everywhere blah blah blah.

Anyone ever read a Rule Book?

Who is responsible for the Rider's Safety Gear?

Isn't rock river a "pay to play" rig? Nevertheless im sure it's worth it. Anyhow, how do we all know that the riders don't just pop that thing out before they head to staging? Is there something noticeable to the eye that signifies it not being in?

Yes, there's a little air-line that hangs down below the edge of the helmet

Since Rock River picked up some major sponsorship, that changed. They've really improved their program and it's no longer a last resort in the minds of riders.

I'm confused, if hill wasn't able to race why does results show him in 13th place?
