Interview has some decent info. Long story short, Coy Gibbs told James he should get on Aderall. It made James feel great daily didn't necessarily improve his racing. During his appeal he pointed out to the people that he only won a moto and an SX after starting on it.

He also pointed that the process was broken with them emailing him on a Friday at 1am their time with the suspension outcome.

In the end he said he thought about quitting but support from McGrath and Deegan as well as fans made him keep at it. His appeal process would cost $200,000 on top of the $200,000 already spent.

Rumor has it he will be back for MX.
$200,000 is a ridiculous amount of money for this shit.

Filling out an exemption when you are being tested is equivalent to handing your car keys to a cop and telling him you are drunk and going to walk home after they have stopped you on the side of the road. It does not make any sense.
It makes sense. What if he had just found out days before he has ADD? Just because it's more suspicious doesn't mean there's anything wrong. Besides, based on what SEE ARE125 wrote, which was this:

he told the lady from the FIM when he was getting tested in Seattle that he was taking Adderall. She told him to fill out a TUE and he did...and then sent it in. The lady called and said she got his TUE and would be in touch.

...the situation could've been handled better by the FIM. Telling him to fill out a TUE implies that he'll be cleared when they get it, which obviously wasn't the case. It also makes it sound like "the lady from the FIM" didn't know the rules either...

James admitted that he had been taking Adderall since the beginning of 2012. So he had almost 1.5yrs of using before he got caught......he did not just start using it.

Unless I misread it. The craziest part is, that USADA and WADA cleared him and excepted the TUE. I can't think of too many exceptions ever from those two. And then then the FIM is left to decide a suspension and came down way too hard with the punishment. There should be a punishment, but two years..c'mon man.

I JUST read the article, and that's what I got out of it. I think people at McDonald's run a tighter ship than the FIM.

Basically, he told the lady from the FIM when he was getting tested in Seattle that he was taking Adderall. She told him to fill out a TUE and he did, took the form to his doctor who also filled out a bunch of stuff with his entire medical history, and then sent it in. The lady called and said she got his TUE and would be in touch. Then several weeks went by and he didn't hear anything, he called and the lady said she had been on vacation, and that she LOST HIS TUE. So he sent in another one. Time went by and he heard nothing, until Mike Webb told him that he was suspended. He called the FIM about racing the Nationals and got no answer or returned calls, but the AMA and MX Sports said he could race.

Long story short, the FIM is a joke, IMO. It's good in theory, but the common denominator is that it is ran by some real morons. They've proven it time and again.

Do yourself and favor and buy the magazine. It's good to hear his side of the story. He said that if he had to choose racing or Adderall, he would choose Adderall because it improved his daily life THAT much. Shitty deal.

There is a reason our Forefathers fought for independence.
Haha that's what I thought too. SX needs to be liberated Wink

The article was very poor. The writer started by saying the FIM suck its all unfair, JS is a scapegoat etc etc . Pretty much what the JS fans have said above in this post.

There's no questioning at all, its just a vehicle for the Stewart camp to put across a very carefully thought out story of what went on. If you think you're going to discover the truth to all this by reading that, then you're sadly mistaken. 10 months on and all the JS camp have had to say on the matter is this 'article'?? That's rubbish.

I don't think we'll ever know whether he took it to enhance performance (which is why there was no TUE), or he took it for ADD and the entire team was so stupid they didn't know a TUE was needed. Because we'll never know, that's why a ban was needed.

Somewhere above someone said he was cleared to race by WADA but banned by the FIM. That's just not true. Cleared by WADA to race on Adderall going forward, not cleared to race on Adderall last year. He's banned for taking it illegally last year.

What someone pointed out is that WADA and USADA granted him TUE going forward which means that he needs and can take Adderall because of his health issues. It`s not like you can just file a paper and they give you TUE. It goes through a board of independent doctors who then decides if sportsman is eligible for TUE. They could easily deny him of TUE if they thought or if there even was a slight suspicion that he was taking it to enhance performance.

The FIM does suck. And, James clearly was made the scapegoat, and his penalty was laid down as an example to all others.

Pretty simple. What's your point?

The rules are laid out as well as punishments beforehand. Here is a list of a hundred examples-

Guess I was hoping to learn something. To read a bit of balanced, well written journalism. I'm not a regular reader of TWMX though so maybe that was expecting too much.

My first paragraph was a hypothetical...but then again VitalMX user tprice said James told the nice people he'd only won "a moto and an sx after starting it", so yeah, I'm confused.

First of all, if you don't believe it was handled poorly by the FIM, I don't know what to tell you. Before the article came out and while this whole thing was going on back in 2014, everyone around here was wondering why the hell it was taking so long to reach a decision. The FIM was dragging their feet, end of story.

I think the people saying he was cleared by WADA mean that after his failed test, he was tested by WADA doctors and specialists, all of which also agreed he has ADHD. So we'll have to disagree that he took it for a performance enhancement. I absolutely believe that after a failed test that WADA put him through the ringer with their doctors to make sure he wasn't using it for performance enhancement, and it's obvious they, the WADA doctors, also determined he does in fact have ADHD or else they wouldn't have granted him a TUE for future competition. This is not based on what JS said in the article, it is what I believe WADA would/should do anytime a rider fails a test.

I haven't read through all the replies but I can maybe clear some stuff up about the TUE. I am part of the USADA testing pool by being on Team USA for another sport. When you create your account, you are asked to watch through a series of videos explaining what the USADA does, what you can be banned for, where to go to see if you are taking a banned substance, how to file TUEs, setting your schedule, etc. All the videos take maybe 30 minutes to run through. One video talks about the TUE and how there are substances needed to have approval for and the first example they say is Amphetamines and specifically Adderall. Then it says how it takes several weeks( I want to say 2 to 4 but I'd have to go and double check) for a TUE to be approved or disapproved. It also goes into the first offense of getting caught with a banned substance which is 24 months. Once you watch the videos, you need to give a schedule of your life down to basically the minute.

I think James is great for a sport and I love watching him ride, but for him or someone in his entourage should have saw the videos and known the rules. Adderall is their example drug that you can get in trouble for and it is stated that the 24 month suspension is the norm. I hope this may help clear some of the facts up and hopefully James can figure it all out and be back out there.

I think to blame his team or entourage is unfair, unless he says he passes that off on someone else. He said in the interview it was his fault for being negligent, and he only let the people closest him know about the condition, cause he has felt burned by people in the industry, and didn't want anyone to look at him differently, or like he had a handicap.

One thing is for sure, when it comes to wins and championships his career was much more successful before he started taking Adderall.
