I thought he would do better based on his qualifying times. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do and was disappointed that he got hung up in the first or second turn mess, but then again he really didn't move up much after the reset/staggered start either. The east coast is definitely is leaner than the west though so I think he will get some good finishes.

Yea first SX not bad qualified 2nd worst position 19th up to 14th back to 16th on lap 7 to finish 8th. What's your take on ET qualifying 2nd fastest worst position 11th finished 7th ?

450 class is obviously a more "stacked field" and therefor coming through the pack would be far more "epic". Iregardless, I think Arnaud (AT200) passed more people on sat night than anyone else and most of them he passed twice.

"Swiss Toni" will do, esp if you've watched the Fast Show.

I didn't expect him to be up to speed so soon in SX, second in qualifying is pretty impressive. Outdoors is his thing. No too bad for one of Herling's "weak" opposition.

He obviously has some ability but going from 18 to 8th proves very little. He is a factory rider on an ass kicking bike. The only guys he beat were a bunch of guys operating out of a van. Any full factory rider should at least be in the top 5. Having said that I do believe he will get on the podium a few times this year and be a top 5 outdoor rider.

Well first off, there are 10 factory riders in the class so that makes your "should be top 5" statement a little irrelevant. Second he beat several riders that don't operate out a van.

Davalos- Factory
Peters- Factory
Nichols- Factory
Renzland- Near Factory Level Bikes
Rodriguez- Factory
Alix- Factory

Not to mention the privateers that don't operate out of a van.

Decotis

Racer X came out with the lap times today and your boy crush had the 11th fastest lap time ! That is hardly something to write home about when your riding a PC Kawasaki. Half those guys listed above are perenial bring up the rear guys and the other guys like Davalos and Rodriguez crashed their way out of good finishes. Just so you Euros know....never brag about beating that last group. I thought I was just stating the obvious in stating that he is expected with his experience on a PC bike to be at least top 5 in the east.....especially after qualifying so well. I believe he will come good but 11th fastest lap is not going to cut it. Can you at least admit that?

Wow he crashes twice (or three times even?) in his SX debut and still finishes 8th after coming from the back and people are still looking for something bad... Laptimes really?
Do you think best laptimes matter when youre coming from the back? You mustnt have raced much really.
First off you dont have much space for a good lap with tons of slower people in front of you. And theres no way you have the same rhythm as when youre starting in front - especially when you have hardly ever raced a Supercross race.

Not sure if Davalos' crash is any relevant in this context as he took down Tonus with him, got up in front of him and got passed by him twice in the process of the main event.

To put the whole laptime thing a bit more into perspective. Andrew Short finished 5th in the 450 main event and he only had the 10th fastest laptime in that race. Laptimes don't mean that much in racing situations (in a way ..)

On topic .. I think Tonus didn't do that bad at all for his first ever usa ama sx. He showed he has the speed and i liked his riding style from the few shots we saw from him. Expect him to creep up to the top 5 real soon.

I dare say he has the best riding style in todays world (both GP/AMA's).

AT200 is definitely poetry in motion.

A-nus 200... that might be shortening it up a bit too much.. Whistling but it would be good to come up with an original nick name rather than AT200.

This is the problem on these boards sometimes.....EVERY euro talks about his greatness and style but no one can objectively say he rode as well as he is capable of. Americans do the same with their riders. I believe he is a top 2-4 rider in the east and fully expect him to come good. All I was saying is that he didn't perform up to his standards or Mitch's/P.C. standards after qualifying so well. God forbid you acknowledge that. I'll bet you if you asked Mitch he would have been a bit disapointed as well.

I don't think anyone is saying 8th was a brilliant result, but if you'd asked people before last weekend I think most would have predicted him finishing somwhere between 5th-10th. I know I would have. So considering he got caught up in a crash very early on and started virtually last I personally feel 8th isn't such a bad recovery.

He's already finished higher than Aldredge did in six West Coast events.

Even though I was the one saying he should have done better...I think the guy is a top 3 guy in the east and expect him to be at least top 5 by next race. He has a lot of potential and could win the east in a year or two....but not the west.

Classy.

Just not sold on Tomac, we've seen him many times go outrageously fast in practice or in a heat race, or one moto of a national. But he's not consistent enough. His night in Arlington was typical of his season and probably his 450 career so far. He's got bags of potential and I'm sure he'll come good. But I'm not sold on him. Yet

I actually had the privilege to stand next to Mitch during qualifying as he was looking for a place up on the 200 level to get a good view. I was talking to a friend of mine as we watched AT and I remarked how he looked like a much taller Cristophe Pourcel is what he reminded me of. He was extremely smooth and never really made to mistakes in qualifying and my son and myself really made sure to pay attention to him in the final. I personally think he will do great because he is so smooth and on a very slick track he may get the fastest qualifier.

So you aren't "sold" on Tomac despite having both SX and MX championships.

What a shocker. Kind of like the way you describe Villopoto as well.

And by the way, I am simply devastated that you didn't approve of my accurate description of your continued behavior.

Just devastated.

My observation.......I think Tonus has a bright future in SX. He has a great style for it and is just plain fast as hell. Nice to see a new face come into the series too !
