I'd like to find an old motel (single floor, maybe 10-15 rooms max) to stay at for both weekends of ATL SX. I'll be coming from the northwest to ATL, so would like to find one maybe within 30 minutes from the stadium back up I75.

I've looked online and couldn't find any old motels, I could find plenty of hotels around $50/night though.

Anyone have any recommendations for cheaper hotels in the Marietta or Cartersville area?

I know, my hotel for St. Louis is $175/night lol. But I would prefer to find one of the old motels for around $50/night, they are usually a lot quieter and pretty nice. But if I cant find one, then I will find a hotel in that range.

I try not to tell people what to do but this is a matter of public safety and health, You do not want to find the cheapest hotel in a place like Atlanta!

Look across the river in Collinsville IL. . Some of the teams even stay there.

I've heard a few rumors that Atlanta was a rough city. I've drove through there but never stopped or went to anything in the city. I don't want to stay in Atlanta, but would like to stay within an hours drive of the stadium. I just picked up a set of the 2 weekend passes for both races, so I'd like to find a cheaper hotel for both weekends, 4 nights total. I'll be going to St. Louis and making more of a trip out of it, nicer hotel, more spending money, etc.

I really don't want to drive down there and back all in the same day, that's about 11 hours or so of total driving

Hotels.com is your friend but Going sub $50/night in the ATL is not really going to happen unless you bring your own sheets and sleep in body armor.

Try looking on I-20 west of downtown towards Douglasville. The super 8 and econolodge across from six flags should be around your price range

Just be sure to stay OTP west of town. Anything from 75/85 and 285 along 20 is gonna be sketchy.

edit: OTP = outside the perimeter (285)

I don't know where u are coming from or what your weekend plans are but one weekend u could stay in Chattanooga and visit the downtown area Friday night (its a beautiful and active but safe area) then the aquarium sat morning and then drive 2 hrs to the race and 2 hrs back. The second race we are having a St Jude's Benefit race at Calhoun on March 1. Which is about an hour north.

I decided on a Best Western in Cartersville. Its about 45 mins NW of Atlanta right I75.

I've heard the stadium is also in a pretty rough part of town. The other SX races I went to (indy and St Louis) we would walk around downtown a little bit before the race to check out the town. Would this be a good or bad idea in Atlanta?

Downtown is safe around the dome. Just depends on what direction you go. Out towards centennial park it's plenty nice.

There's the Skyview ferris wheel thingy that may be cool to do if you haven't been to atlanta. It's walking distance in centennial. I believe you can get a Groupon for a discount. Also dmxs is having a party on Friday night

Coke museum is a must. Also a great aquarium from what I have heard. Also, eating a day at the Varsity should be on everyone's bucket list.

Probably have to drive though.

I second the Alpharetta recommendation. We stay at the La Quinta in Alpharetta quite a bit when we visit family. It is fairly clean, safe and has a free breakfast. Just head from there toward ATL and jump on the Marta and ride it to the Dome.

Too bad the internets gotten so weird anymore. Used to be a big Atlanta get together and someone would just put ya up for a night or two. Might be in the family camper, but those were the days.
