quads on a different day are fine IMO. we will avoid a track that has them on the same day, they just do not mix well with what most bike guys like the track to be like. my biggest problem with them besides the track issues is why are they so freaking loud? just thinking about them racing gives me a headache from the outrageously loud exhaust

ATV championship is making a stop at Daytona while the track is up for the bikes. Maybe lead to quads sharing more events with bikes? I have a lot of friends that race ATV MX and racing is racing in my opinion but there is obviously the age old battle between the two.

Any input?

I'm sure they'll prep the track between events! I wonder if they'll take te whoops out & maybe a few other sections. I don't care either way, but I'm sure the average fan will enjoy seeing them race. Most rednecks propably have no clue that they can be jumped as high as they do & will be amazedLaughing

Some of these posts crack me up. Does this photo represent motocross racers? NO it doesnt.
I am old school and use to go to a lot of the CMC Golden State Nationals. They had ams on sat and upper and pros on Sunday. They ran the quad and atc pros on Sunday with the likes of Ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward, David Baily, Etc at times. Those were some great race days. There was not the wining and crying that you see today, it was a motocross race racing the track they were given. Drop the gate and get it on. That was then and ...
I am sure I will get blasted but posting those quad idiot photos to compare to real preformance quad racing is the same as the photo that I posted above being compared to motocross and supercross on bikes.

I had a good chuckle watching the "pro" quad riders at the Kicker AX last weekend. Rolling the whoops, only the top 3 guys actually jumping the rhythm section - it was quite the spectacle.

I'm sure there are a ton of quad riders out there who are serious and not total d-bags - I just haven't met any. The last conversation I had with a quad rider was me asking him to slow down in the pits and stop doing donuts because it wasn't safe with the kids around and he was getting dust all over everyone. He told me, "If you can't handle the dust don't come to the dirt track, bro!" I then pointed out that I have no problem with dust on the "dirt track", but he was currently in the parking lot. He still didn't get it.
Yes that I agree with. Those kind of "riders" do give the sport a bad rap. That and the honey boo boo type people but not gonna judge them. Anyway, go to a real quad national, you will leave with respect and appreciation on how hard they word and how much they care and take pride in their bikes n sport. Don't go to a local fair race or AX race. Not one real pro is there practicing. They all in FL or down south at their compounds just like the dirt bike riders are training and getting ready to do battle in a sport that will kill you.

I bet the same dudes hating on quads cause they are gay, are same douches that argued the skiing snowboarding debate back in the 90,s.. GET OVER IT!! They are here to stay and I'll never understand hating on someone that puts a helmet on their head and risks their lives for a sport they love. Quads, dirt bikes, go carts, horse racing and whatever. If has a helmet on your head, it's for a reason and we should respect the fellow rider.

Use to race pro-am quads for many years. Hate to break it to ya, the average pro quad racer is usually a lil more manly then the average pro dirt bike rider. Just saying...

My track monster. $20,000 to build. Took 3 years..

And don't flame me to bad for my "couch".. It has a dirt bike motor in it, so that's gotta amount to something around here!!
Of course you feel that way...you're "one of them" Laughing Just poking fun.

Coming from an "off road" trail rider, that photo is both ironic and funny.

I near landed on a little girl on one of the suzy 50cc quads during B practice, came over a step up and there she was I got the bike moved over and missed her by about a inch........ Found her dad and near killed him,he said he lost track of her. I packed up an never went back to that track and wont jump a blind jump now. I dont think the mx quad folk are anything like the Bubbas for the most part but down south there are some in the mix but there are also some bubbas in the moto side too. Hey where the hell do they put the ice chest at?

The main problem i see is that an bike track and a quad track aren't really the same thing. Watching a quad or riding a quad on a SX track buuilt for bikes of course they are gonna look like spodes for the most part. Heck, even local MX pros look like spodes on a full on SX track sometimes.
I used to race quads and now race bikes. Quad riders giver themselves a bad name now. If there were enough interest to run races on a track that was built/modified for quads they wouldn't get so much crap. But quads ruin corners for bikes and bikes ruin jump faces for quads. You have had pucker until you try to jump a big double with an uneven face on a quad.............

I really don't understand the hatred towards quads. I know riders want to whine and bitch when they show up at the track, along with everything else, and they do cause some issues that EVERYONE has to deal with. So STFU and ride. MXer's can be the biggest cry babies on the planet. Take your tampon out and ride! So what some guy enjoys quads and blows out your berm...WAH!

A guy that works on the inside of my engine has built two quads for himself that are incredible looking.

You know why I don't like quads, I'm scared of them? I've come off my bike many times, and it scary enough without a full freezer of meat coming behind you to squish you.

I wonder if Joe Old Man With a Camp would come out if there brand of quad was racing......probably not?
But people younger than that probably would.

I like the comments about different days not being an issue. I know it isn't SX, but I remember reading an article where Barry Hawk barely beat his time on a bike on an outdoor track on a quad.

I wish I was going, I raced Montreal a couple times and it was fun, but scary as hell. They don't build tracks there like dirtwerx.

As for quads vs bikes. For a few years now any time a bike guy gets on my case I simply tell them to talk when they can beat me. Out of those who thought they could only one was successful. But I gave him a hell of a surprise with how close I was.

As a quad guy I have respect for bikes. I'm no great shakes on 2 wheels but I've spent my whole life on 4 wheels and just started riding bikes a little in the past couple years. What I've noticed is the bike takes more finesse, but less overall physical effort. There is more lower body English required on 2 wheels, and 4 takes more core and upper body. Quads are easier to turn on flat ground or berms, but rough corners are easier on a bike. Jumps are definitely easier on 2 wheels, the suspension is much more forgiving.

Having said all that, I know the guys like Wienen, Creamer, Hetrick, Tbrown, Natalie, Upperman etc are going to put on a hell of a show. And I bet the lap times are closer than you think.

bh84 that commented would wreck you on any track you called. Guaranteed, this is also coming from a fellow motocross racer, not a quad guy.

Someone post on here one time that the lap times around Red Bud after the national for both were like on 2 second a lap different from best to best. I know its a different but I believe they stated the track was the exact same length and lay out wise.

No I like my knobbies square for a few rides. 1 ride on a track riddled with track packers and the tires a rounded off.

The hate towards quads is pretty simple- they ruin motocross tracks for bikes. I dont know how else to say it. The quad community needs to open their own tracks and not ride motocross tracks that, for the most part, are owned and operated by bike riders and cater specifically to bikes.

I dont dislike the people themselves that ride quads, its just the machine itself makes it miserable for bike riders, who make up 90% of the business for most tracks. A track near me actually stopped allowing quads because they caused most of the problems for the track and made up only a tiny percentage of the revenue.

They cause issues that dont affect them, so of course they dont care. But when 4 quads deteriorate the track for 50 bikes, I think thats plenty reason to whine and bitch.

The quads are riding after the AM events at Daytona... Obviously it goes without saying they won't be riding the same track as the Pro SX riders...

I assume the track will be different from the Pro SX track, but what will be the fastest dirt bike class(es) to ride the exact same track as the quads? Quads race Tuesday March 10th, if I'm not mistaken? What days do amateur dirt bikes race? Will be fun to compare dirt bike vs couch lap times.

Can we let the "oh they ruin the tracks" thing go? Let's just say we aren't overly enthused when we come at a jump face and there's 15 ruts up it, quads like to go sideways and when they do it usually involves us being run over by them. The thing that aggravates me is that people talk about "Real" Moto, the days of Bailey, Johnson, Decoster, Hannah etc. When you watch vids from back then, there's dust and blue groove everywhere, yet you didn't hear them bitching and moaning about it, they just rode their 500cc death traps for 30 minutes, then had a smoke drank a beer and stole your girl while you stood there in awe.

I remember when I first started, we had an ATV only series, eventually the economy went for a shit and we had to move back with the bikes. That's how it's been ever since. We aren't happy about it and the bike guys aren't thrilled either, but there have been a few events that would have been cancelled without us and without the bikes we couldn't race. Entries are down guys, we all need to set aside our differences and keep the sport alive at the grassroots level,

Lap times at Red Bud. I've raced Red Bud and even if you haven't you can see how insanely rough it gets. Track deterioration may be slightly different but I've seen it after bikes and after quads and both are brutal.

Pretty pointless to be comparing lap times, in my opinion. There are way too many variables to actually derive any sort of credible results from that. Maybe it shows some guys can go fast on quads (obviously), but to use them to compare to bikes just isn't very credible based on lap times.
