Quads aren't so bad as long as I don't have to see them anywhere near the track I'm riding on. Problem is there are a lot of hillbillies in my neck of the woods and hillbillies like quads. They are the d-bags you can find racing around the pits all day with no helmet on.

I think you are mixing up Utility quad riders and actual quadcross racers.

I'm pumped to see the quads at Daytona. They get shit on pretty good here, and I think a lot of folks don't realize how fast they can get around a track. A lot of quad and trike guys lurk here, I'm sure, but just refrain from mentioning it due to the backlash they receive.

My classic ride:

nice that the full Roll Design Chassis too? people dont realize that's prob like a $15,000-20,000 quad.

I'm aware, but still don't want to be anywhere near them. They definitely have skills, can't deny that. A local kid that I went to high school with was a pretty good quad rider who raced pro for a while as far as I know. Never really paid attention. Not my thing. I'm a bike guy and it's a lot harder to become a successful professional motocross racer on a bike with so much more competition. Should be interesting to see how they handle the track and if the track will be much different than on Saturday night. I'd imagine there will be quite a few changes.

You can go to the local dealership, spend $8k on a stock 450 and blow the doors off a $40k quad around a MX track. That, my friend, is a thing of beauty. Woohoo

I'm a bike guy, i have been racing bikes my entire life. Don't even own a quad, but why is it impossible to be able to not hate quads and be a bike guy?

You are right about the Race quads being a thing of beauty, these ones are amazing, to have a fully built race quad you have to replace so much more stuff than a dirtbike to make it race ready. I think it just depends what you grew up on, I grew up riding quads so I feel more stable and in control and much better and more confident on the 4 wheels but I ride dirtbikes and raced mine a time or two I like them both for sure more of a fan of pro MX but personally like racing ATV more.

When they were new they cost that much for sure. Like many things, it's pretty sad to see how much they are worth now compared to what they cost to build just 10-15 years ago. Crazy.

I honestly don't have a good answer to that question. Raised that way I guess. Quads were never allowed to race or ride on tracks around my area when I was on minis. The tracks were great with ruts everywhere. Quads ruin tracks, create a ton of dust, not safe to be on track with bikes, etc, etc. That comment was just a joke by the way! I don't care if you like quads or not.

I know it was a joke lol but i find it crazy cause being a bike guy i hang around these guys that want to nuke quads and it seems i'm one of the only bike guys that is actually ok with quads. I have been smoked straight up by a canadian pro quad racer named Sean Mitchell at Motopark during a open practice day, made me feel a bit weak but other than that i was alright with it. Hung with him for about 2 corners then he started pulling away. I am still amazed as to how fast these guys can go on such a heavy machine.

Quads in this part of the world have a decided whisky tango slant to them, if you catch my drift.

We have MX vs. ATV races at open practice days at our local tracks. Its become quite a hit actually. When you narrow it down to the fastest bike and fastest quad it's actually closer than you'd think.

Maybe the quads will benefit the basic layout of SX tracks - force the organisers to widen the tracks, use more floor space?

That, would be a good thing. But, is there ever much more space to be made use of, in the stadiums?

I daresay it's another, potential money maker for Feld - fair enough, but I'd love to see the Motorcycle side benefit from it, if at all possible.

Quads as such? - I'm neither here nor there on them, but if I'm on 4 wheels, I want a bloody cage around me!

They are not what I'm particularly interested in, neither for riding, or watching - each to their own, though.

totally agree. as long as its not bikes and quads on the same schedule.

a friend of mine won a couple of ATV races, and he goes pretty good on a bike too.

what Trey thinks about quads
I think the most interesting thing about this video is how little they actually show the bike and quad riding together. When they do, it's obvious Trey is just rolling around while the quad is going full out...

Those were not real sx tracks! They could not hit the same rhythms or skim whoops on a legit technical sx track!

The ATVs will race on Tuesday, after the Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross for the bikes are complete. I think it's going to be a lot of fun to watch, and it won't have any effect at all on the previous Saturday night's Daytona Supercross -- the one that's part of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. With road racing not being what it once was, maybe this will five "Bike Week" a jolt...

There's this slightly over weight fella that comes to the local fair cross and races his honda 250r. Every year he shows up and takes the C class win. It is probably impossible to go any faster in the whoops than this guy, shifts all 300lbs to the rear And holds it WFO. I never see him before, after, or at any of the other races.

He's a legend like JLAW

I bet the same dudes hating on quads cause they are gay, are same douches that argued the skiing snowboarding debate back in the 90,s.. GET OVER IT!! They are here to stay and I'll never understand hating on someone that puts a helmet on their head and risks their lives for a sport they love. Quads, dirt bikes, go carts, horse racing and whatever. If has a helmet on your head, it's for a reason and we should respect the fellow rider.

Use to race pro-am quads for many years. Hate to break it to ya, the average pro quad racer is usually a lil more manly then the average pro dirt bike rider. Just saying...

My track monster. $20,000 to build. Took 3 years..

And don't flame me to bad for my "couch".. It has a dirt bike motor in it, so that's gotta amount to something around here!!

ATV championship is making a stop at Daytona while the track is up for the bikes. Maybe lead to quads sharing more events with bikes? I have a lot of friends that race ATV MX and racing is racing in my opinion but there is obviously the age old battle between the two.

Any input?

I had a good chuckle watching the "pro" quad riders at the Kicker AX last weekend. Rolling the whoops, only the top 3 guys actually jumping the rhythm section - it was quite the spectacle.

I'm sure there are a ton of quad riders out there who are serious and not total d-bags - I just haven't met any. The last conversation I had with a quad rider was me asking him to slow down in the pits and stop doing donuts because it wasn't safe with the kids around and he was getting dust all over everyone. He told me, "If you can't handle the dust don't come to the dirt track, bro!" I then pointed out that I have no problem with dust on the "dirt track", but he was currently in the parking lot. He still didn't get it.
