So first let me start off by saying I know vital can be a brutal and very critical place at times, so I’ve been very reluctant and precise when I post on here. This post isn’t meant to get flamed away so if you are one of the people that just have negative comments please just click the back button. Its not meant to be some sob story, charity case post. Just some facts and if you would want a cool shirt, then hell yeah! haha
My name is Rhett Urseth and I have been racing mx/sx for years now. I have rode for Wonder Warthog, Team Solitaire, and Slaton Racing in the past. I have been a featured selectable character on the mx vs. atv game series and I feel that I have made a decent name for myself over the years as a privateer. I definitely am not the fastest guy alive but I do believe my results do not reflect my potential.
I also attended public school my entire life balancing that and racing. I recently graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelors degree in Kinesiology. I applied and have been accepted to a Doctor of Physical Therapy program that starts in August of this year and beyond excited for that!!! I feel like I am the only guy on the line Saturday nights that not only graduated college but also going for a Doctorate degree while racing. I also haven’t mentioned I work a part time job during the week helping my pops at the local newspaper/ printing company. I average about 20-25 hours a week when I was in school and on breaks I average about 30-35 hours a week.
Anyway, I just wanted to write a little back story to let everyone know on here I am all about hard work. I have never had anything handed to me in my life and I honestly like it that way. Juggling racing, school, and work has made me a very well rounded person and I like being the underdog.
This past weekend at A2 we unloaded the bike and most of our things (like we always do), but we left our mrpro6 pails in the bed of the truck along with our toolbox. Within 10 minutes of being at a Macoroni grill at 5 p.m., we got everything in the bed swiped out from underneath us. That is honestly one thing I CAN NOT stand in this world is a thief. It made us so mad and bummed because that was all the gas we had for the race and all the tools were everything from our house. So not only did we have nothing this past weekend, now back at home our garage is emptied as well. Ha
I came up with an Idea to sell some shirt to try and help with racing expenses and to get some money generated for the stuff that got swiped! I just wanted to post a link on vital incase anyone wanted to support the cause. I didn’t make them rider specific so you can support all the privateers when you wear them to the races.
I designed it like a “Hells Angel” type theme that reads “Support Your Local Triple Digit”.
I think they look pretty bitchin and hope others do to.
It is set to end on Friday, so I figured what the hell Ill give it a shot.

I appreciate a hard worker though and it sounds like you have your priorities in order. Congrats on that.
Good luck out there Rhett.
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Free shipping: VITALMX
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
And like newmann said, can't donate without buying a shirt. Makes it really hard for us out or country guys since there's no international shipping. I understand that can be a problem and cost you more money than you earn but at least make the option to donate without a purchase.
If it's the later then sadly seem's like a fellow mechanic or his buddy stole your tools.
I know pick ups are very popular in CA, but the open back is just too easy for an opportunistic scumbag thief!
Everyone uses vans or motor-homes in Europe, a lot more secure!
Hope you get enough donations to get most of your tools replaced!
GuyB-I have thought over the years about a central location for people to share their experiences in the hope that we can learn the best way to protect our bikes and gear at home and on the road. I would rather help keep someone from getting ripped off than donate to help keep them going.
In Rhett's case (and with hindsight being 20/20) much like a designated driver should racers start having a designated watcher that gets his food brought out in a to go box when they're in less than secure environments?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Hang in there Rhett!
Pit Row
Good luck, Rhett.
Regarding anytime hearing of a thief taking a bullet or twelve, it tends to warm you heart...I'm right there with you. Don't jack with my stuff or stuff that doesn't belong to you end of story and life will be fine for all of us. If you get capped for trying to steal my stuff it isn't my fault you got shot.
Props to you for doing it out of a pick up though...
I was going to say how they got stolen in the original post but it was getting a bit lengthy. We usually stay at a hotel around the stadiums and bring everything from the back of the truck into the hotel room so we know everything is safe. This past weekend a buddy offered his aunts townhouse as a place instead because she was gone for the weekend, of course we took this offer. We also just bought the pails of pro-6 and quickly came to realize this stuff is potent. So when we unloaded the gear bag, bike, road bike, etc on friday at the townhouse, I decided to leave the gas and toolbox in the bed of the truck to lessen the fumes in someone else garage. We left to go to a Macaroni grill about 2 miles away or less and when we got done eating everything was gone! We couldn't believe it, we take everything into the hotels EVERYTIME and the one time I stayed at a buddies and was being thoughtful of his aunts house (didn't want the fumes seeping into the house from the garage) we get ripped off in 10 minutes!!!
Also for those that watched me at A2, man we were running pretty dang good! I was in 7th in my heat race until I got cleaned out on lap 3. In the lcq I was in 3rd until my kickstarted springs broke and it was just flopping in and out of the bike. I kept trying to ride but it was near impossible to ride when it would get stuck behind my leg going threw the whoops and rhythm sections. Over the triples and finish line I was trying to throw it back into the bike but since the springs broke it would just come right back out, so I believe I dropped back to 6th.
It was defiantly an eventful weekend and a first on the kick starter situation. I have never broke one the entire time I have been riding and have never heard of anyone doing so either. It was like a 1 and a million odds that is randomly broke. Oh well there is always another race though. Thank everyone once again for fully backing your local triple digit.
Oh on a side note, The Torque Drive Rekluse cluth set up is amazing. I have been getting horrible starts for years and this was the first weekend running it and got out of the gate soooo solid in the heat and lcq.
Here in South Africa, If its not bolted down, it gets stolen, if it's bolted down, it gets cut loose and then stolen...so we learn very quickly NEVER to leave shit unattended. Yeah its a pain in the arse to drag your belongings with you everywhere or having to find a safe place to stash it but it's better than having the stuff lifted.
Sorry to hear about your loss Rhett. I placed your post on my Facebook page.
