So just curious, what is the consequence or downside if AMA kicked FIM? Other than SX not being a "FIM world championship"

I'm not the biggest JS7 fan, however, he doesn't deserve this. I'm all about the don't do the crime if you can't do the time saying. But this is like doing 2 years for petty theft. Just my 2 cents.

I had several years of falling under the WADA rules due to pistol competition. I was never a threat to do anything, with or without drugs. They asked about what drugs you take...then they ask again. Then again.......Then once more after explaining they do check, and ANY medicine you take will be noticed.

Then they go down the list and ask about blood pressure drugs...The blood pressure drugs were the ones they looked for in this instance. Beta Blockers slowed down your heartbeat and you shook less. They then asked about pain management drugs.

By the time it was over, you'd denied taking the drug, or confirmed it 37 times. On paper, and verbally. I dont see how this could have happened unless someone else did the interview for him?

Dear Mr. Stewart,

Congratulations on your TUE for next year. We have absolutely no problem whatsoever with you using the substance in question while competing since you have now filed the proper paperwork.

But we have decided to retroactively destroy your 2014 season, including both "super" cross and the outdoor "nationals". You will have to forfeit all wins, prize money, etc. from last year from the positive test forward. Of course, we don't have the power to force, nor will we ask Feld Entertainment, the television networks, and everyone else who profited from you riding to unwind the past and give up everything they gained however.

And of course, despite the fact that you have now gone through all the proper procedures, and filed the proper paperwork to receive approval for the TUE in 2015, we feel it is necessary to destroy the 2015 season of both "super" cross and outdoor "nationals" for yourself, your sponsors, and most of your fans, by not allowing you to ride until August, 2015. We strongly feel it is necessary to destroy 4 of your seasons for your single-and first-violation.

We apologize for taking far longer to decide this case than many murder trials take, however these things must be handled very carefully and thoroughly. Plus, as we all summer in different areas in Europe, it was difficult to coordinate things between us. Also, Wolfgang briefly ran out of Cristal, and Giuseppe ran out of caviar more than once, and to ask them to continue the discussions without those would have been very inconsiderate on our part. (Please use discretion in revealing to anyone that Giuseppe was part of the discussions, as it would look good for neither Wolfgang nor ourselves. Thank you for understanding.) Luckily, we managed to find a gentleman from India who was available to do our dirty work for us, and we are told that the accommodations at the Best Western where you had your hearing with him were excellent.

We are aware that you are nearing the end of your illustrious career, but feel that a 16 month suspension probably will not bring it to a premature ending. We also hope it does not endanger your status as an icon of the sport. It would be a shame to have one of the sport's most popular riders of all time end his career in controversy and disgrace, but you American cowboys always seem rather stubborn when it comes to following our Rules the way we absolutely demand from the rest of the world.

It may seem odd to you that a European organization such as ours has any power over the American "super" cross and outdoor "national" series, since they are perfectly capable of governing themselves, but that is what the organizers of those series decided. They are obviously wise, have excellent judgement, and who are we to argue with them?

In closing, we wish you much success year after next in 2016, and hope for your full recovery from the condition requiring the TUE.

Sincerely,

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme

PS: Please pass along our heartfelt thanks to your fellow countryman Mr. Villopoto for rescuing the rapidly sinking motocross GPs from failure. Giuseppe has indeed made things very difficult with many of his decisions but he is family and what are you going to do, yes? This should buy him some time for which we are very grateful.

Why do you care so much, were you getting a cut of his prize money? And let me pose a question to you. Say you get ramp checked by the Feds and you forgot your license or medical at home. They levy their punishment on you and it's pretty harsh, are you going to react the same way..."their taking away my livelihood, the punishment doesn't fit the crime, blah, blah, blah. The bottom line, if you don't want to be reacted upon by the authorities (regardless of what country they reside) don't screw up, and if you do, accept the personal responsibility for your actions and move on...there are rules for a reason.

MX/SX were great before JS7, and it will continue to be after he's gone. He certainly added excitement with his riding style and creativity on the bike, but HE screwed up and he's paying a heavy price for it...he no doubt will figure things out though.
MX/SX were great before drug testing also.

Their decision can't be affected by what stage in their career a rider is. Obviously for Stewart, this just so happens to end his career essentially.

He broke the rules, and I strongly feel like he should have been suspended some races in 2015. To suspend him until August, however, is a bit harsh in my opinion. That being said, he has nobody to blame but himself and he can't really be too mad about it.

This is a disaster. How could anyone who agrees this decision consider themselves a fan of motocross? Whether you like him or hate him he's half the excitement of every race. There is not one positive that can come from this situation. He loses, Suzuki losses and most important the fans lose. Occasionally I'll see a post of someone saying "he broke the rules he's gotta pay" and "yeah teach him a lesson life goes on without him". This isnt baseball, of the 20 guys on the track, 10 of them you actually care to watch and 5 of them are irreplaceable. Losing him is a big deal.

With a little bit of common sense you can see that this really isn't a case of using performance enhancing drugs but more of a case of thinking I'm above the law. It's my opinion that he knew adderall was banned and needed a TUE but thought to himself, I'm not going to tell everyone I'm on adderall cause then everyone will talk s***. Its not hgh or steroids, im not getting an advantage so if I get caught I'll smooth talk everyone and it'll be all good.

Im a Stewart fan but he definitely needs to be punished. He needs to be put in his place and show everyone else it doesn't matter who you are.

Taking away a chance at the title is a huge punishment. The reality is that sitting out 1 race of points severly affects your chance. Sit 3 and there isnt a prayer. I think between 1 race + 300k fine and 2 races 100k fine would have sent a loud and clear message.

Just look at the motocross community. 90 percent of what I read are statements that are backing him. As a matter of fact I can't think of one big name player in the sport that agrees with the punishment? You wanna be completely fair? Tell the FIM to f*** off. The AMA holds its own trial. Make the top 10 riders( the only ones with ability of beating him)the jury and decide what the sentence should be. Ill guarantee it isn't 16 months.

How do you figure he's being punished 16 months ? Last I checked the only race he's missed was Mec . The way I understood the original suspension he wasn't to compete in any professorial racing . He threw fim a big FU and continued to race ama nationals now their ignoreing he did that and counting that as part of the suspension which is bs in my eyes . He knowingly broke the rules and tested positive for a ped ! He and all you nut huggers should be happy they don't start punishment from the time of his last professinonal race red bull straight rythmn
He wasn't supposed to compete in FIM events so he continued to race the AMA nationals, which are exactly that, the AMA nationals..not FIM. And Red bull Straight rhythm was not a sanctioned event. Please do a little research before you post next time. IMO anyone who completely sides one opinion or the other in this case is just showing how close minding and uneducated they are. Yes stewart failed the test without the appropriate TUE at the time. Yes he should be punished. But to this extent, not so sure i agree with that. after a little research a very similar case occurred last year in the MLB where the result was the player being suspended for 25 games (or less than 1/6th of the season for those who don't watch baseball). Sure you can argue and say "oh well thats not the FIM, invalid comparison." but fact of the matter is every person who is anybody knows what Major League Baseball is, they are the premier stage on a Mainstream level. Supercross is obviously the premier stage but nowhere close to being mainstream...maybe if we want our sport to grow we should model our infrastructure after organizations such as the MLB and NFL that are continually grow...just my 2cents, not that it matters.

To the idiots supporting the FIM. Would you like to serve a murder sentence for a speeding ticket? You broke the law. You knew it was the law. The punishment doesn't fit the crime and that's what we're arguing for bubba.

Ha ha the hypocrisy is hilarious, Americans all want drug testing then when Stewart falls foul of it they don't. And then the old National pride USA USA kicks in and its Euro v USA which it isn't even. The FIM is above the AMA. it isn't Europe v USA. The FIM is the World Wide governing body for motorcycling. World includes USA.

Your lack of basic understanding is hilarious. The laws are in place for all the motorcycling events they are over including Moto GP, Speedway, Supercross and MXGP. Which you had to try and attack ( making up lies) for no reason at all just because of USA pride so it made you feel better Laughing

The FIM banned Stewart from their own series! It hurts them as well! The only reason anyone cares is because it's Stewart who makes races exciting and it wasn't an American that took the decision. So somehow it's Anti- USA agenda ha ha. Brilliant.

The precedent was there with West, and while I agree it is a bit extreme it is what it is and they can't give Stewart 2 months if West got one year and a half, and it will make sure no one else makes the same mistake. It's just frustrating that it is Stewart because he brings a lot of excitement to the series. But everyone should have known the potential consequences going in.

It's not anti-usa and the AMA only care because this is the second star they have lost from their series since 2014 and are worried about ticket sales. WADA don't mess around, Stewart's camp clearly dropped the ball and are paying the (excessive) penalty. The AMA are now annoyed because it hurt them as well.

Would I serve a murder sentence for a speeding ticket? No, that would be ridiculous.

Heres how you'd handle that. To get the speeding ticket, you would see the rule printed in the document you were signing to get your license. It might say...

By signing this document, you agree to be executed if you are caught speeding.

At that point, you refuse to sign. Too much of a risk to be allowed to drive. Screw it, I cant agree to something so crazy. I'll ride the bus. Or, you think, "Hey, I speed sometimes..let me get some clarification on this." Or maybe even consult a lawyer to interpret it for you.

However, if you do sign the document, and drive, It's on you when you get caught speeding.

All the arguments against this severe punishment evaporated the second he agreed to the rules. Todays society just does not understand that.

Its like this sign in the Indonesia Airport. When you go into their country with drugs, what do you think might happen?

The FIM isn't shit.

Think about it. If the Supercross series decided they didn't want to go with the FIM as the governing body, what could the FIM do? Stop them from having supercross races in the US? Nope.

And the FIM doesn't govern the MX series here in the states, or James wouldn't have been able to race the nationals this year.

Keep fishing.

Do you have a link to where it says Anthony West won an appeal? I can't find it anywhere, but obviously that could have big implications in this case. Not heard that before, thanks for the update

No mention of a successful appeal on his results which still show an 18 month disqualification

Tea Party, Revolutionary War, Civil War, Civil Rights, etc.. I think we have a long history of fighting for Liberty. I think your comparison is a little off.

If Trey Canard got suspended for 16 months and two years ruined for cold medicine, would it be ok to be outraged over the punishment?

In a totally hypothetical situation why couldnt the ama say "take your 18months and screw. They act like they have no choice whatsoever in this matter. I don't understand why the FIM is involved anyway. What do they do? Same thing with WADA. Say stew showed up for a1 and ama let him race. Nothing either fim/wada could do except write a letter 8 months later

ya, I'm sure answering to the other 40 (whatever the number is) racers competing would be fun to deal with.

The FIM is the World Governing Body for motorcycling. It is above the AMA which is just an affiliate national organisation like all other national bodies for motorcycling like the ACU.,Stewart lost his points from the AMA Nationals last year because of this drug situation and ruling by the FIM/WADA

The FIM have their name on the SX series so this ruling means one of the top riders in a series they put their name too can't ride. It affects them negatively as well just like the AMA. It is not a witch hunt on Stewart or the USA.

Nicely written.

Now the Big 4 in Japan and the Big 3 in Europe need to pull some corporate shenanigans and withhold all support from FIM events. Say starting Jan1 until the FIM/WADA BS stops. Just to let the FIM know how the racing cookies really crumble.

I don't defend or care for big Corporations as a general rule, but it would be fun to see the FIM nuts shrivel up when faced with no kingdom to rule over.

THIS is the problem. No matter how great James is I think everyone just needs to try and take a step back and accept that for whatever reason he cheated.

I find it highly improbable that him and his entire entourage didn't think, or forgot to A: mention adderall B: file for a TUE. It's incredible!

Even if adderall was used to mask another ped, it STILL doesn't make sense that there was no TUE in place.

I actually can't think of a reason for this happening, other than they didn't know adderall was legal with a TUE, and knowingly cheated. The reason I say this, is that if that wasn't the case, then we are forced to believe that everyone in the Stewart camp thought adderall was legal, and THAT I cannot believe.

Edit:
Actually there is one other option: misscommunication or sloppy teamwork, where they knew they need a TUE but somehow it never got done when everyone thought it did. So no cheating, and no complete ignorance, just missmanagment. Maybe that is most probable?
