My buddy 's CR250 just lost all compression. I suspect the ring (s) seized in the piston groove. It was time for a rebuild, but I run Golden Spectro and have NEVER had an engine failure. EVER.

Obviously Honda doesn't make the hp-2 oil. who does?

Anybody know what's up?

we were riding in the Moses lake sand dunes area and had stopped for a water break at the furthest away point possible. thank god for a quad guy on a 700 Raptor.

thanks Tony from Graham for the tow !

I dont know who makes it but Honda HP-2 is a very good oil. I never had any problems with my bikes using the HP-2.

I always ran the hp-2 in my cr 125 and cr 250. Damn, I wish I had my 250 still.

If the bike had compression in the morning, sand might have caused the problem. Sand will wear a piston ring very fast.

Mobile makes most of the Honda oils, or that's what I was told one time. They just make it to Hondas specs.

Honda GN2 or HP2 is fine..

odds are very very high that the brand of oil used.
had nothing to do with the failure.

too many hours run..lack of general top end maintence, sucking dust /sand/ or dirt,, at any point in the engines life ,or on this ride, sound far far more likely Wink

without details the list of possibilties are almost endless,
jettng/ airleak/ overheating/ lack of coolant..

but the very least likely is brand of premix oil.

I've heard this myself. I switched from Maxima to Yamalube in 06 and have had nothing but beautiful looking pistons and powervalves since.
On the 02-0whatever cr250 airbox issue, I removed the boot from the airbox, cleaned, then sealed the gap with silicone. Be sure to use clear because it can be seen.

HP2 was some good stuff. I ran it in my 125s for years. Never had a problem.

I did have a buddy that was a little sloppy in his event prep. We hit a sand race, bike lost compression in the second moto. We pulled the filter. Dry. Dude didn't put any oil on his filter and sucked dirt through all day.

I have never seen a ring stick. Never. Maybe others have.
