Don't come across much cool stuff in these parts, but found this about 3-4 miles from the house. Piston is broke but everything is there and actually in good shape. Dent free pipe, good tank and seat, rims and spokes clean. Owner is looking for the original ohlins he swapped out years ago.

Only thing perplexing me is the rear frame loop. Haven't seen it in any other pics. It is a early MX serial number for that year.

Nice find, especially with the Ohlins.

. Was at the Sunset Ridge Ama vintage race. Met a nive family fro WV. Kid was 15. He race a 1988 kx 250 that was mint, and a really nice 83 rm 125. Nice people, great track,.

How is the Cagiva 200 coming?

How is the Cagiva 200 coming?
Sounds like PD and his son. I've met them a few times, they are good friends of one of my friends.

Found some more NOS parts for the Cagiva 200. I have a 1986 WMX125 that's about 80% finished, so trying to finish it up first. Also have a 1981 YZ125 that's been finished for probably 2 years, just needs put together. Should probably finish them up before I tear into the 200.

With it having the aluminum swing arm and originally Ohlins, you looking at an 1981 MX-6B as far as I know.
The loop is puzzling. The enduro versions may have had it? Take a look under the seat.
You said frame # checks out?

I thought it was an 81 also, but frame # says 80 model MX6. I think the Ohlins and the aluminum arm were both options in 1980??

As I investigate the loop more, it appears to have been added I am thinking. I'll chop that baby off before powder coating the frame.

The owner painted the motor, said the bike was too orange for him! Gonna fix that too!!!

Keep a close eye on the steering head, the frame was known to break there. That aluminum swing arm sure looks like a THOR swing arm to me.

Some say Thor made them for Can-am , but I know those were stock. Was THOR still around in 1980?

Lots of things out of place on that bike...frames like to crack on the steering head...be careful....rear loop is wrong for an MX, black motor, thor arm....etc etc etc....cool bike none the less if its cheap enough.. It's an 81....which was an 80 plus alloy arm..

The swingarm on that bike is a stocker as far as I know, that was one of a couple of small mods that made it an MX-6 "B", the one I race has the same swingarm on it, and I've seen some tests on them in magazines from back then and those bikes had it too. But I'm not sure about the loop on the frame behind the seat, that may mean that it was an Enduro model or something and you are right about the motor in 80 they were orange and 81 the bottom end was orange and the top end had no paint.

Thanks, It is a great pic, a guy that goes to Farleigh every year named Pez Anson took and every year all the photos that he sends me are bitchin'. A good photographer is worth way more than horsepower lol

Previous owner painted the motor black, said the bike was too orange for him. He also added the rear frame loop for a fender support. When/if I ever get around to restoring it ill remove the loop

Cool, then it's a proper MX-6B, good for you. People always talk shit about Can-Am's but I learned after racing one that they are actually a pretty bitchin' bike and I would think that most of the people that talk bad about them have never actually ridden one. One thing about the MX-6B is that it is a serious wheelie machine, 3rd gear starts help that, and they are fast as hell in a straight line, once you get that sorted to where you want it you will have a ton of fun on it, it's a great bike.
