Mookie to Geico

11/5/2014 9:03pm
What is Mookie's finish percentage last season in SX and MX?
69% - 23:33 (100% in SX)

The kidney problem really jacked him up at the end of the year.

"GEICO Honda team manager and past series champion Mike LaRocco..."

I'm drawing a blank...what sx series did Mike win?

Mike Larrocco said""Running in both the 450 and 250 classes, we like to keep a good balance of experienced riders and rookies on the team. We think Malcolm will help bring that balance. The kid's got speed and hopefully, in the right environment, we can get some podium results out of him."

Get some podium results out of him??? Why not some wins and perhaps a championship? I think hes capable, Mikes apparently not so optimistic I guess.

Further breaking this down and WHAT AN AWESOME/SMART signing this was by Geico Honda....Malcolm is easily better then 3/4's of the current team...in fact it could be argued that perhaps hes equal to Bogle in SX as Bogles championship came last year in an injury depleted East field and Malcolm got Podiums in the much tougher West.

If they got him cheap, like I bet they did...best signing of the off-season!
Why bother picking the PR apart ffs???

The Predator is back, woohoo!

Mookie on a 450 at Daytona has to be a given.

Happy and pissed by this.

Happy as hell that Malcolm got a ride....especially some badass team like Geico.

BUT....250 class? C'mon man!........The dude is a monster and needs to be on a damn 450! He rides them better than the lites bikes as well. Hopefully they will let him run some east rounds on the big bikes......crossing fingers for outdoors to!

To answer the question all of you keep asking,

What leads to more exposure, having a solid 5-10 place guy or a race winner/championship contender?
For Mookie, 5-10 place guy = 450 class and champ contender = 250 class

In other words who got more attention last year?
Andrew Short or Cole Seely?

From a business perspective, it's smarter to put Mookie on a 250 in SX.

Bogle will be stoked on his new teammate.

Very nice Malcolm got a good ride, but would have loved to see him on the 450. Hopefully he does wel and rides some 450 East AND Outdoors!

I'll be surprised if he doesn't do any of the East coast 450 races. He's accustomed to the race schedule now and if he's healthy, I would almost put money that he'll be racing.

Yeah, I'd much rather see Malcolm on a 450, since he's a bigger guy and seems a lot more comfy & a lot more competitive on the bigger bikes...but,, any Geico Honda ride beats riding for Team Wallet any day. At least this way he's getting more exposure and with some high finishes he will definately be a shoo-in for a 450 ride next year, or maybe Geico will put him on a Honda 450 a la Tomac for the outdoor nats! I'm just really happy for the guy.

That's awesome. Did they just add him to the team or was there a hole?

I know, Im being a bit picky but I think Geico should have higher expectations for Malcolm rather than "get some podium results out of him".

Malcolm has the skills to win and they should focus on that, not just be happy with a good presence in the series. Put some effort and EXPECTATIONS on him to win. There's plenty of time to test and train and get ready for A1.

When I read the PR, that was the first thing that caught my eye also. I wrote it off as maybe they're trying to undersell and overdeliver.

What coast is AC racing?

Pumped for Malcolm!

Wasn't he pulling holeshots on his 250, or damn near close to it last season?

Exactly. I have no idea where people get the notions from. Top 5's at best, they must have missed all the articles and media talking about how fuckin stacked the 250 class is this year.

I don't think many of us truly believe he'll really be a top title contender like AC or Musquin, but it would be foolish to say that the championship isnt possible. He's definetly got the potential to do it. It can be argued that Bogle wasnt a top contender last year yet he still won the title...

I think hes one focused off-season away from being a true title contender. Thats why I'm asking Geico to have higher expectations...right now...two months away from A1. We have the time and know how to make a guy that "has speed" into a champion.

We can work with speed...Malcolm Stewart has speed.

I am very WOW'ed right now. So stoked for Malcolm, but NEVER would've seen this one coming.
That being said, they kind of have a young team coming into 2015 with only Tomac and Bogle having much experience. Bisceglia, Hampshire, and Smith still are pretty wet behind the ears.
I wonder if Yosh helped put this together?

It will be cool to see him take some more people out and smack him in the head afterwards.
