Racing returned to Southwick after a year of non-activity there. The J Day Offroad series held their season ending race at Southwick with a massive turnout. The results can be found here. www.jdayoffroad.com
I loaded up a bunch of photos from the race into my photo gallery. www.pbase.com/thomasef
Here are a few larger photos, right click the link under each photo and choose open in a new tab or window to see them full size.

The track was in pretty good shape.

I love it, The Wick has added some logs. Very creative and adds excitement and interest without being death defying. What the heck are those Armco barriers for?

The logs were in the extreme section of the woods part of the J Day course, they used about half of the MX track and the rest was in the woods. The Armco barriers are in the staging area going to the starting gate for the track, they have been there for years,I'm not sure why they used that instead of a simple fence.

I didn't agree with the log section; too troublesome, good way to pickup
an injury. Even the A riders were thrown off, luck more than skill prevailed.

Note where the spectators are. The guy that crashed must have been trying to triple the inside? Bad choice. Mayhem, I love it.

Man that looked fun!

Why do do guys prefer the 2 stroke in that style of racing?

There was a bypass line for the logs, which honestly weren't that tough. If you're good, triple in. If not ride the wide line and take them one at a time.

As for the two stroke, they are just lighter and more nimble and that matters much in a thirty minute race that always includes a very technical section. Honestly, the foopers looked slower even on the Moto track part. But, then, all the good guys are on dingers anyways.....

Lighter and easier to maneuver around trees and obstacles. The real advantage of the 4 stroke is acceleration on straights but 4 strokes take a lot more effort to maneuver in the trees. Being smooth on a 2 stroke through the trees/ obstacles is more important than gaining the 4 stroke acceleration advantage on the straights with woods racing.

Roughly 95% of the bikes were 2 strokes. A lot of KTMs, YZ's...

Thanks for the video, it looked like a blast. I didn't realize there was that much land around the track to use.

It's crazy how fast those guys are through the trees. No fuckin way I could even imagine trying to get through there at that speed without clipping something and torpedoing myself into a stump or something.

These J Day races look like a blast. What is the farthest south they come? I'm in south central Pa.

The logs weren't that bad, I remember back in the early 80's I rode the amateur day at the Daytona supercross and the whoops were made up of logs covered with dirt, and the dirt didn't last too long so we were riding on bare logs,it sorta sucked..
